    Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020 and Thailand from 2023. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult son's. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Vanlife and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023.

    Another great video, I've started to do my own Buddhist experiment by living as closely to as many precepts as possible, I also think this would help me if I were stay at a monastery. Thank you for sharing, my peace be with you.

    You verbalised what I already knew Tan Phra Dan. You were undoubtably a Thai Forrest Ajahn in a previous life, though I actually suspect lives, and that you were a Sotapānna in previous lives. I can say this without sounding patronising as you are aware, that I am aware, that you saw through the illusion of Sakkāya ditti a very long time ago!
    If I may make two mentions for your consideration in future dhamma talks.
    The first is time spent in Samadhi in relationship to depth of Samadhi.🙏
    The second is deep, and only if you think it suitable for a wide audience who perhaps have not encountered it experientaly: Sunyāta!
    Btw: I have zero doubts about temple dogs finding their way home…I have heard the same said about cats, though I do not feel the same affinity perhaps due to a previous existence…
    With metta Bhante…🙏🙏🙏

      Thank you. Yes I have made a note of your points for future talks. However Sūnyatā is a Sanskrit Mahayana term referring to emptiness of meditative states. In the Theravada Pali Tradition there is Sunnatā which is non self referring to the absence of the 5 khandhas. Emptiness implies enclosure or restriction, an empty vessel. I prefer infinite spaciousness which is true freedom in the absence of the 5 khandhas.

      @MarkDaviesThailand Год назад +1

      @@englishmonk Thank you so much for both your reply and correction. I did indeed mean Sunnatā: it is difficult to find information on this and I have apparently confused the two terms, as “ Heartwood of the Bhodi tree “ also discussed Mahayana philosophy…
      Your definition as an absence of five khandhas, and the awareness of infinite spaciousness: should that happen in meditation, then is that the actual experiential realisation of Annatā ?
      If so Bhante, is that experience a factor of enlightenment?

    • @englishmonk
      @englishmonk  Год назад +1

      It can lead to its understanding but not abandonment until conceit is eradicated.
      Maybe you mean stages of enlightenment not factors in which case conceit is abandoned at the fourth stage Arahant.
