Boris and Bobby do the Monster Mash

- Bobby 'Boris' Pickett recorded the classic 'Monster Mash' in 1962, then Boris Karloff made the film 'Black Sabbath' in 1963. Opening scenes of this film and the song by Bobby were mixed with my computer and here's the result, 'Boris and Bobby do the Mash!' Enjoy!
Released on August 25, 1962. Got to #1 on Billboard the week of Oct.20-27 1962...
...just in time for Halloween...a CLASSIC!!!

I remember when Bobby was on American Bandstand singing this song 🎵.
He was a very gentle soul, RIP William Henry Pratt, aka Boris Karloff! Snowbound Theater was always special when they would run one of your movies! The local TV station were I live in CT has not done Snowbound Theater in a good 45 years now!
From all I've read about him, and seen interview clips and biographies, Boris seems like the kind of person I would have loved to know!! I'd love to tell his daughter, Sara, about how much her father meant to me!!

Years ago I left a fan email at his daughter Sarah Karloff's website and she sent me very nice reply, assuring me that your father was a loving & devoted father. How wonderful know ! as elementary school kids in the 50s we grew up with these great movies from the 30s on week-end late night (10pm) Fright Night tv. LOL And then, the 10 cents double features of even more "monster" and space movies at week-end all day at the movies activity. Cars with loads of kids would be dropped off curbside at noon, and parents would come for pick up around 7PM...talk about low cost Saturday all day babysitting.
The thing is Boris Karloft was doing a great tv series scary TRILLER same time Bobby Picketts monster mash hit the #1 charts back in 1961.

Interesting to me how someone who was known to be so kind as Mr. Karloff was known most notably for playing such horrific characters.
It's sad no one has ever taken the places of the actors from Hollywood's "Golden Era"...and Karloff is a great example of that...his original portrayal of the "Monster" has never been equaled, despite the passage of the best part of a century! (the moment that 'Frankenstein' opens his dead eyes is still the stuff of nightmares...a 'dead thing re-animated' is too horrible to even imagine happening)

Always have enjoyed this song.. Hard to believe that it was banned by the BBC when it came out as being "Too Morbid" and stayed banned until 1973! This has to be my favorite Halloween Song!

In 1987 my soon to be wife and I went to a place called Spooky World in Berlin, Mass. I had a bad cold. As we waited outside in the freezing weather for a hay ride we passed by a stage area. The door swung open and the man himself, Bobby Boris Pickett, came out and sang this song. Suddenly I forgot all about my cold and the cold. What a treat not a trick! ALL true!

I have been trying to find the original music video. however this one was close. Using the original song with Karloff is the best so far. There are sad people who trash videos and think they are doing a service.

Most of the old greats got their start on the stage and many were classically trained. today they get managers and do modeling or sing then do television commercials before transitioning to TV roles. Eventually they get a movie role. Nowadays a TV actor is almost the same thing as a Film actor and few actors go near an actual stage. Oh and if you're not pretty don't bother. The monsters are all cgi now.

Karloff recited "Peppermint Twist" as a poem on "Shindig" , but , did'nt do "Monster Mash". They probably asked him to , and he , most likely , said "When pigs fly over Heathrow Airport". I have a copy of that episode , that's the only musical bit he does.
