So one thing i want to clarify after talking to Alec, I do think that improving bar speed at 80% is a viable overload parameter and correlates to 1RM. The point is more so in non-heavyweight powerlifters where the training economy is less limited whether something else could be done with that time that might be an even better avenue to push forward (not that it doesn't work/correlate this is established). In the existing meta/commonality of the strongest athletes where down weeks are necessary for fatigue management its probably one of the more productive things one could do with their down week that is not overly fatiguing (alongside maybe position maintenance work some would argue). But this is not the majority of people that watch my videos. Many ways to get strong and clearly theirs works very well. (Also miss spoke around the 7:30 mark when I implied that speed work is not training for neural outcomes this is a big talking point of Alec's that i don't want to misrepresent, meant to say the kind of neural adaptation that comes from more maximal lifts).
Man....2017 freak was getting all riled up, then you got all "this isn't beef", etc. Glad the community these days is more level headed and actually talks now.
Very well put man. I apologize for mischaracterizing your points. What was shown on RUclips was intended to just be some light hearted discussion, but didn’t come across that way. This is a nuanced topic that requires more long form discussion. I wouldn’t disagree with anything you put out in this video. I’m 95% with you on all of this stuff.
lol bench press or pull ups, otherwise i dont think im gonna fair very well in this tie breaker lmfao. Already seen lucas squatting my max for 8 one to many times this week lol
"Speed work", insofar as people mean the traditional lifts at like 50-60%, is a *waste of time.* Power is a great attribute, but trying to do it with benches and shit is dumb.
I was in group coaching with Hooper for deadlift. I specifically asked about speed work. He said he’s not a fan of speed work for deads. He sees more value in trmpo and pauses to improve max deadlift

I think there’s a simple solution to prove who’s right, who benches more

To make the title as aggravating as possible can I suggest a change to "we need to talk about speed work"
Crazy camera quality
Would love to know about your approach when it comes to developing the explosiveness/explosive power
Saw the title and immediately thought he saw Lucas’s video
Is this a cheap Hellboy cosplay with the headphones?

Good sport about it man.
