I have a three-and-a-half-year-old female Virginia opossum named Sid who lives in my house with three cats. She eats cat food and uses the litter box just like a cat. I have tried to get her to leave, but as soon as I put her down in the grass, she runs back into the house through the cat door. She loves to snuggle on the sofa at night when I watch tv. I carry her around the house over my shoulder like a baby. She bathes herself every day in the bird bath. She is super clean and very polite.
last summer we had a opossum that would com in through our cat door, climb up on my desk. We had an arrangement if I wanted to pet him I had to feed him. If he wanted to be fed he had to let me pet him.
have a barn cat that way, he doesn't like to get petted or touched, except if you feed him then its like Ok, you can pet me while you feed me. So he's the same way, won't let you pet him unless its feeding time, and if if he wants to be fed he had to let me pet him and not get fussy and slashy.
I can relate to this as i was feeding one hot dogs on my porch last night. Wonderful animals. They now live in my garage during the cold winter in an insulated box with blankets. Still cold in there but at least they are out of the wind and snow. Such deserving animals of a little help.
@@lauragazdziak4573 thankyou. I really hope to see little Joey's in springtime. If not, it is still beautiful to watch them every night. I can actually open the door to feed them now as they no longer try to run away as they know i always have something good. Have a wonderful new year!🥰

That's awesome. We've got one in the garage who at least doesn't play dead the moment it sees us anymore. We're feeding it and letting it stay for the winter but we're moving in the Spring. Would love to get friendly with it but afraid once we leave, it'll assume the wrong other human is friendly when they're not. Wish more people appreciated them.
We kept the one we found last winter too, after a little while this is how she behaved around us. They learn pretty fast which humans are going to be nice and adjust accordingly. They are such friendly animals.
