      @@sadaka201 I think when I wrote this I was on a Kamelot binge lol. I love Nightwish too, maybe for different things. Nightwish sounds way "bigger" than Kamelot with their orchestras and opera music. I like how Kamelot is a bit more traditionally rock sounding in a few of their songs though. They do different things, so it's hard to say if one of them,is objectively better.

    You talk about it being a great song which obviously it is, but guys it just DOES NOT COMPARE to listening to the whole album from start to finish. It gives so much more context as to what Roy is expressing in the lyrics. It is the climax of the whole album (and in fact double-album if you count Epica) so everything has been leading up to this. It pretty much is a play as well - it's based off Goethe's book 'Faust', but also at the start of The Black Halo there's a hidden track where a couple are late to the theatre, and the orchestra is tuning up. There's even a couple of epilogue tracks after Memento Mori bringing the listener back to reality - it is New Year's Eve and the listeners were simply watching a play. Then there's a reflective song at the end called Serenade about life being like a play, a start and a finish with various Acts. Such an amazing deep album, probably my favourite of all time.

    • @echoct506
      @echoct506 6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely this. It's the culmination of a 2 album story. So much is lost without knowing the full story.
      I'm sure you know, but Epica the album is the protagonist fall, Black Halo is the redemption arc.

  • @dodgrblu
    @dodgrblu 5 лет назад +15

    Thanks guys! loved it. I used to have long flowing locks in my 20s and doing the windmill headbanging was fun, but now it's just regular short hair haha.
    This song is a true timeless masterpiece in my opinion, and only gets better with each listen, even after 15 years it still blows me away. Roy Khan is an unbelievable vocalist, and no one has the mix of voice, passion, grace, emotional content, and sense of melody and delivery all in one like he does imo. The part with the demonic vocals in the middle is done by Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir and gives me chills every time. Everything just comes together so well and is structured and arranged perfectly. It is also the ending to the 2 album concept (which I highly recommend listening to, the first of which is called Epica, and that's where the band Epica got their name from) based on the classic piece of literature Faust, which is partly why it has that kind of larger than life quality with so much depth. I was really sad when Roy Khan left the band, almost cried haha, but it was probably for the best because he was being burned out and his voice was deteriorating. Glad to see you guys liked it so much. Thanks again!

    It is Kamelot's two-part Album that is (Epica) and ( Black Halo) about Ariel (a character based on Heinrich Faust).
    It's an entire Play of two albums combined and This one is the Ending !
    Also I would love to inform that this Vocalist ( ROY KHAN) is no more in the Band. The Last Album of ROY KHAN with Kamleot was Poetry For the Poisoned.

  • @NullVoidNA

    This song is great... but it's hardly represented properly when listened to by itself. Memento Mori is the climax of dramatic story that spans Epica and Black Halo.
    God and mephisto make a wager surrounding our main character, Ariel. If mephisto can collect the soul of his favorite human, he may return to heaven. After a downward spiral into drug addiction and the tragic suicide of his lover and his unborn child, his defection from God, among many other things, we arrive at this song.
    I have no words to describe the beauty of these two albums. There is so much detail, depth, and meaning to each song, lyrically and intrumentally. They truly represent the pinnacle of musical composition. I reccommend anyone who wants to take this journey open up the wiki pages for Epica and Black Halo where each song's core meaning is desribed and just listen. Higher quality headphones are strongly recommended. I have been occasionally enjoying these albums for ten years and still pick up on new juances within the music.

    Great review as always, hey it is Kamelot whats not to love? Guys I know you are serious metal heads so try this out. A band forms when the guitar and bass players are 11 and the drummer is 14. Now 5 years later you get Asterism Rising Moon (ruclips.net/video/IfxMi0Bx4x0/видео.html). Watch this and be blown away. The strings are still in high school and can't drive yet. The Girl on guitar, Haruka was 15 when they shot this video!! Teenagers that will be part of the J-Rock/Metal tsunami that is coming. You can try them now and be ahead of the game. Think a young Santana or Hendrix when we talk about her axe attitude!! If you don't want to review fine, but give them a listen I promise you will be hearing a lot more about them in coming months.
