That and it feeds the tiktok cycles. They are very strongly related to publishing content of the aesthetic on social media and it will be gone as soon as there is something new on the app. In a way it can be really inspiring to stumble across a micro trend that speaks to you but it can take a lot of self knowledge to know what is for you and not to abandon it when it's no longer the trend.

Mimi from the Drew Carey show made it very difficult for me to wear blue eyeshadow around my immediate family members, but I still occasionally give it a try!
In regards to skincare in makeup being a trend, I'm very much NOT a fan. I've been noticing an increase in skincare stuff in base products for a while now, which has caused me problems because I'm allergic to niacinimide (high amounts cause basically a chemical burn, and low amounts cause dermatitis). Niacinimide being a very trendy skincare ingredient, especially for dry skin like mine, has meant it's been increasingly incorporated into makeup too. Skincare is such a personal thing and the wrong skincare can mess things up. By adding that into makeup it can make things even harder to find products that won't make things worse for some people. PS: welcome back, I missed you guys!
Could not agree more, in fact I said something similar on a Robert Welsh video recently. But I'm afraid to try things because it might exacerbate my sensitive skin so it's a real headache knowing I have to research that. Not to beat a dead horse, but I think it's wild that it's relation to dermatology markets it as wellness when they make it less inclusive for people with conditions and sensitivity. Want to clarify--i don't always hate the idea of hydrating elements that keep it looking/feeling like skin bc that's actually drawing me to doing more with makeup, but I really hate the addition of anything active or sensitizing. Especially if it's UV reactive and I don't know, bc my skin is really sensitive with that.
Agreed, I've been griping not only about the actives in makeup, but when they don't put it on the product label. Instead you see things like "glowy" and "brightening" and "moisture" and oops, that means Vitamin C, Niacinimide and Hyaluronic Acid, and you don't know it until you put on your makeup over the toner and serum you have on. Also, these ingredients tend to be further down in the ingredients list, or disguised by a souce, "mallow extract." So you think the product is ok, but it isn't if you have sensitive skin. I have never appreciated basic oils as a moisturizer more than I do now.
I agree. My skin does not like most actives or chemical spfs (rosacea & eczema) & I remember when vit c was added into everything, even concealers. Please no.
Honestly, you ladies being back brings me so much joy. And this grunge "coming back" is funny to me because most of the people I've seen recreating grunge looks are non-alt girlies just recreating alt girl's makeup that alt girls have had for years !! 😂
I think now all these lesser known styles are only "trending" because they somehow ended up on the clock app. Another example will be the darker liner ombre lips, since Latinas everywhere have always rocked that combo no matter if it was trending in the mainstream media.
Okay, I wore blue eyeshadow daily in the late 80s. Fortunately, there are few photos. I lived the grunge eye life in the 90s and that never really left me. I'm 52 years old, and I bought ColourPop's Blue Moon AND Huda Beauty's Pretty Grunge in December....and I am loving both of them right now. Not for every day, and I do not look good in blue eyeshadow. I love blue eye looks on my brown eyes. I've been getting plenty of compliments lately from getting back into blue eye looks. But it does take a lot longer to blend. I actually prefer blue eyeliner, rather than blue eyeshadow, for that reason. And i like vibrant blues, not those frosty, chalky powder blues lol
Me too, all colored eyeshadow, honestly. Though these past years I have been influenced by the minimal makeup trend, I miss when people would have fun with color and just go crazy and creative with it.
Hi ladies ❤ I wore graphic liner in the 60s!😂😂😂😂😂 Yardley of London had pastel water activated liners called Glimmericks. I wore them every day!😊 I was so cool!😎 I was also in my late teens!!😁 I also wore frosty lipstick….and can’t give it up!🤭
@@sapphireseptember I will be 75 in August! We will always wear what we have always loved, in style, (or on trend), or not. I’ve seen trends come, go, and come back again! Look how long I had to wait to be able to buy wide leg jeans again!😂😂😂
I am 46 years old and I have seen all the mentioned trends coming and going multiple times. I love the idea of thin textures (foundation) and I use vibrant blue eyeshadows since ever. I consider the grunge trend rather ridiculous as I was a teenager in the 90ties and we used the very few make-up products we owned differently. And as I travel a lot I was never able to do 10 steps skincare routine. Perhaps this minimal skincare is a nod to travelling more (post pandemic). Well. I am enjoying your comments a lot & I am very happy to see you two back.
I agree! Plaid, leather, and oxblood will always be "in" every other fall. Navy, ivory, stripes, nautical, will always be "in" every other spring. ....and so on. These things have come and gone over and over a million times 😊
You two ladies have always been beautiful but I think you’ve really solidified what looks good on you and makes you feel confident the past few years. You are glowing!
I think Sephora stopped producing Color of the Year products because they ended their partnership with Pantone. Pantone used to power Sephora's "Color IQ" system that Sephora used to recommend foundation shades, but Sephora has moved onto something else. Smaller brands, like Butter London, have since collaborated with Pantone, and an indie brand called "Shades by Shan" is this year's Pantone partner. 🍑
Idk but the blue trend in fashion gives me Britney Spears/Justin Timberlake are wearing matching jeans outfits at the 2001 American music awards vibes. 😬😄
I tried Blueish Teal eyeshadow look for New Year, and i surprisingly liked it 😂. Most of these trends.... never left after 6 years, heck even more than a decade
I think a trend prediction will be more curated collections and more intentional purchasing, partially due to economy, and partially due to people still being exhausted from massive collections that sit and ferment.
We're trying to reinvent the wheel with this one. I feel that brands do not know how to innovate anymore and instead, they're just going to slap new names on old concepts. I hope I'm wrong, but the only claim I can make is that my no buy is going smoothly because nothing catches my eye. Which is insane, considering how much makeup I used to purchase. It just all feels so repetitive to me.
I agree with you... blush is going to stay. When I saw Strawberry makeup or latte makeup I wasn't actually thinking of the colours, I was thinking of some weird drawings on the face or that it was a cartoon of some sorts so people are trying to mimic (like strawberry shortcake show). Some are a bit angry as some people rename an already existing makeup trend so it can be trendy as "they invented it", en example: glass and glaze makeup trend... and they don't properly say where is from (Korea, China or Japan, is my bet).
What I love about this, the both of you trashed the food themed makeup trend just after the Welsh Twins made fun tongue in cheek video on the same topic. Love it.
I love you girls, but I am so much more positive about monochromatic looks (I think it is awesome when a person pulls an orange or pink or purple shadow and go for it with the blush and lips! It is just boring with the brown and the peachy stuff). And I loooove myself blue shadows. i bought the mini ND last year and wear it all the time. I think it complements my browness really well so I am happy about that too. I have been buying too much green and grunge and the blue has been refreshing. 😊
As anything can be considered a trend if we add _core_ to the end of it, I'm going to strongly petition for Swamp Witchcore just because it sounds fun xx
Blue is one of my favourite eyeshadow colours on me, which I will wear whether it's "on trend" or not - but I'm super stoked that pale blue is trending in fashion because it means I can actually buy the damn colour! So thumbs up from me for that one. Grunge - eh... that was my era and what people call "grunge" now really isn't.
On the note of fashion and makeup trends interacting, I think in the next year or three we will see a shift towards minimalism-statement hybridization where folks will narrow their personal color wheels to have neutrals with one or two statement colors that are "their color." The craze around the color analysis and seasons coupled with these predictions around polarizing makeup colors like cobalt and red are reinforcing this theory to me.
I think you’re correct. Unfortunately, I’m beyond sick of cream/neutral/beige color palette that’s been overwhelming home renovations. Good gosh I miss color.
I can't hate on the "return of blue." I love blues so much. I'm ultra fair and pink-toned, so it works well for me. I completely understand it is _not_ for everyone.
My mom wore red lipsticks all her life, even when she passed at 90 years old she still had her red lipstick in her little makeup bag. I miss my mom, she’s been gone 11 years this coming June, I still have her makeup bag.❤❤💄💄
You said Ballet Core and I automatically thought of Björk and her infamous Swan dress. I remember grunge makeup far better than I am willing to admit. Mid to late 90's I was only ever seen in either chocolate brown or the darkest plum makeup with matching nails. It's not an era I wish to return to. Blue eye shadow is one of those colours where you have to find the right blue shade for you, or else you can look dreadful. For me it's a denim blue colour.
Skincare- used to be consumers knew very little about what was in the moisturizer and the companies that produced them were happy to keep it secret, just touting magical properties. The Ordinary broke that mystique and suddenly everyone learned about ingredients. RUclips and aestheticians producing content explaining products contributed to the explosion of products. Covid and being online staring at your image made people self conscious. The brands have learned that to 'fess up' about what is in their potions can help sell their products and the respect for formulations that have multiple ingredients formulated well is helping to convince people that one product can do what your four extra steps did. Yeah, I am still one of Caroline Hirons' Skin Freaks and the process has become a ritual I love for starting the day and winding down in the evening. Blue eyeshadow - yes for me! Red lips - pull out those Lisa Eldridge lippie! Frosty thankfully has more sophisticated formulas that give a gleam without bits in it. There are enough trends to do something different every day of the week 🙃
To connect mermaid core and the lip, I think purple lips are possibly "in" or will trend. I've already seen to cool toned and warm toned purple comparisons with different depths. That's my prediction!
one trend i’m seeing in releases and purchases is coloured (like blue) mascara - i see the blue YSL lash clash everywhere and the maybelline sky high coloured mascaras are also really popular
the 10 step skincare routine was a misunderstanding from the get go. It was an author talking about the 10 potential steps you could have in a routine. The idea was to pick and choose from them, not necessarily to do all 10. Western media misunderstood it and corporations jumped on it to justify over-consumerism
I honestly whis that bold blush becomes a thing... I love blush and I wear a lot of it in lots of different colors. My favorite technique is "watercolor blush" by Lisa Eldridge, it makes my face glow 😌 Also the Douyin trend where the blush blends into your eye makeup is gorgeous 🤩
I used to always be a bold blush person but I’m actually starting to pull back a bit the last few weeks. I’m simultaneously behind the trend and ahead of the trend since it’s so cyclical.
I think the monochrome is an extension of the using less makeup and the pretty pink glowy looks. Like using one item of makeup to create a look that will emulate looks in the media
The blue eyeshadow trend also probably comes from Janis in the Mean Girls Musical movie. She had a beautiful blue shadow in one of her songs that many went crazy for.
Regarding skincare in makeup, I never understood how it would Make a difference if you were presumably putting this on over moisturizer and spf. The little bit of skincare in the makeup is going to make its way through sunscreen and moisturizer to my skin? Doubtful.
Deeply doubtful. We already know SPF in foundation is useless since we never apply enough foundation to get the stated SPF, so how much of an active could they possibly pack into it without ruining the formula. As for putting it in blush etc? Do I need x on my cheekbones and nowhere else now?
You know, I watched this video this morning and was inspired to wear a red. I used to be an avid red wearer until covid and just forget now! Went out and about and soo many store people were obsessed. Red is NEVER out of style 💋💄
I’ve always had a simple 3 step skin routine. I’m 60 now, and I think to some degree, my skin is in better shape because I’ve never over stripped, had chemical damage, or put it thru the trauma of constantly trying too many different things.
As a 56 yo Crochet Queen, I’ve been through the majority of the trends that are coming back. I still love blue eyeshadow and frosty lips and lids. I hate graphic eyeliner and red lips. When you mentioned the red eyeshadow, I remembered I had a Lancôme trio or quad in reds, it was early 90’s 😅
I never read these kinds of trend articles because i spend the whole time rolling my eyes. At least this was fun with you guys saying the things and making it funny! ❤
Al powered skincare has already been done by Noie who is a startup backed by LEO Pharma. They formulate custom products. But honestly, they have been only mildly successful, and less so lately. it's not the only brand, just one of them. I agree that they're actually not very successful.
I cannot wait to see all the makeup influencers totally destroy these trends! Bring out the popcorn. Many of these looks require artful handling - frosty makeup is great with no base and only a slick of lip. Also great with no mascara. But too many influencers and many trained makeup ‘artists’ are not artful at all and simply wear far too much makeup across all the categories and they’ll add this on top. Base, concealer, powder, lip liner (my biggest ick) and the new ‘trend’ shade barely visible behind the lash extensions (a massive ick). Oh dear, I am looking forward to it…
I’m hoping for an environmentally sustainable trend in makeup.. packaging and ingredients.. a la MOB Beauty, w edgy colors. Purple is wearable on me. I love greige lips. Cool tones, I live.
I was debating about whether or not to get Chanel 's new Rivage eye quad but Hailey's comment about undereye bags mimicking the blue eyeshadow sorted me out quicksmart!! Thank you!
I was actually trying to do my eyeliner this morning right while you guys were talking about graphic eyeliner. Can confirm, I’ve nailed down my usual wing and I’m not deviating 😂 I feel like trends vacillate between ‘minimalism’ and ‘maximalism’. So ‘clean’ v ‘grunge’ and ‘ballet’ v ‘mobwife/ high glam’. As one comes into popularity the people that don’t really like it lean in the other direction to the counterculture and then that eventually becomes popular enough to be the pop culture. And on and on. I’m not into skincare in makeup except SPF- more SPF in everything but that’s it. It’s like 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, ends up doing both badly.
Yes to the red lip! I actually, just bought a new MAC lipstick and a matching lip liner in December. Kat, you inspired me because you always look great in it. Cheers!
on red eyemakeup: maybelline's new burgundy mascara has given me an affordable option on a reddish mascara that isn't kevin aucoin (RIP) and I love how it subtly changes my eye look
I think the biggest thing for me for wild eyeliner is DEFINITELY the matching part. As yall said, it’s heard enough for me to reliably match two very small wings, much less a whole photo 😂 I’d love to be able to, but I doubt it’ll happen.
I have 5 pieces of face skin care, but I don't use them all everyday. A gentle non-foaming face cleanser by Neutrogena that I use every night. I have a Paula's choice moisturizer that is made for people with problem skin like mine. I have rosacea and am allergic to almost everything. I use it with a drop or two of jojoba oil. I have an exfoliant that I use once a week by Paula's Choice for my skin needs and I wash my face with colloidal oatmeal twice a week with a vibrating silicone thingy to keep it calm.
Speaking of skincare ingredients for the body, there is a brand here in Ireland and the UK called Sculpted By Aimee. They recently released a body moisturiser containing your standard Shea butter, along with niacinamide, collagen, and sodium hyaluronate. I think this is more what the average consumer wants in terms of body care. I can barely be bothered putting on body lotion. I definitely would not be into faffing about with an extra step like body serum. I'd rather just have it in the moisturiser.
I've decided to finally do something about the sundamage on my upper arms and it has been interesting trying to find products for that. I'm hoping to have a visible difference by summer, so products designed for the body may not make it to my country by then, but will be keeping an eye on that.
I think brands are trying to bring back the highlighter trend. I noticed quite a few new launches for highlighters. Not complaining, cause it’s one of my favourite steps, but we have much higher standards for this type of product now compared to the 2016’s “streaks” of blinding reflection.
Another thing about graphic liner: I wear glasses. It's so difficult to find a graphic liner shape (that's more than just a colorful bold wing) that actually looks good with my glasses! I see no reason to try so hard to do something that just looks ridiculous
I don't remember the year, but a very bright orange was color of the year. Sephora made a nail polish kit with 3 shades of the orange, one frosty, one glitter and one matte. I still have it. LOL
My favorites are red lips… but I’ve been rocking a red lip for years. Timeless look! I also heard that a bob or short hairstyle is trending and I’m so into it! Also I love cobalt blue and I’m so ready to incorporate it into my eyeliner and clothing. I just want blue everything. I’m blue da ba de da ba die….
That blue color looks a lot like last year’s pantone color. Almost periwinkle. One of my favorite colors as a kid. Probably because the name is fun to say! Ha
My personal trend the last few years has been LazyCore. I'm unintentionally passionate about it.

All these -core styles are very impressionistic about the theme and are far from reality. It is truly an aesthetic and it is not based on reality.

Me too, all colored eyeshadow, honestly. Though these past years I have been influenced by the minimal makeup trend, I miss when people would have fun with color and just go crazy and creative with it.
i love blue eyeshadow, it looks deadass stunning on me ;D
I agree about the red lipstick, if you wear it you wear it regardless of it being a current thing. Red lips for life 🙌
I'm 51, I still have oily skin so I'm just looking for makeup that stays on my face. Bring me that as a trend!
Paula’s Choice has been doing body care with active skincare ingredients for so many years. So funny to see that as a “trend”.
Hi ladies ❤
I wore graphic liner in the 60s!😂😂😂😂😂
Yardley of London had pastel water activated liners called Glimmericks. I wore them every day!😊 I was so cool!😎
I was also in my late teens!!😁
I also wore frosty lipstick….and can’t give it up!🤭
I love frosty lipsticks and eyeshadows! I'm not that old (35) but I think they're pretty, even though people hate it.
@@sapphireseptember I will be 75 in August! We will always wear what we have always loved, in style, (or on trend), or not. I’ve seen trends come, go, and come back again!
Look how long I had to wait to be able to buy wide leg jeans again!😂😂😂
silver is coming back in fashion and I am here for it!!! 🤩🤩🤩
TikTok says they've moved away from the Clean Girl Aesthetic to Mob Wife... I can't even.
My favourite monochromatic makeup look to do is peach. I have been doing it for about 5 years but I only do it every now and then.
You're on trend for 2024!
I work with 20 year olds and I have seen some intense graphic liner lately!! They also told me that watches are something that old men wear! 😂
Red is the very definition of a timeless classic lol
Love it.
M”only floss the teeth you want to keep” 😂😂 great analogy!
I love Kat’s blush! I love red eyeshadow too
Commenting for the algorithm and because I love you having you back!
As anything can be considered a trend if we add _core_ to the end of it, I'm going to strongly petition for Swamp Witchcore just because it sounds fun xx
Im in 🙋♀️
Blue is one of my favourite eyeshadow colours on me, which I will wear whether it's "on trend" or not - but I'm super stoked that pale blue is trending in fashion because it means I can actually buy the damn colour!
I just love seeing you ladies back in my subscription feed ❤❤
Blue eyeshadow is one of my favourites, so im hoping this is true!
I don’t wear red lipstick myself, but my mother would wear red lipstick to check the mailbox. 😂 She wore it everyday of her life.
Aww I love that.
My mom wore red lipsticks all her life, even when she passed at 90 years old she still had her red lipstick in her little makeup bag. I miss my mom, she’s been gone 11 years this coming June, I still have her makeup bag.❤❤💄💄
My aunty also
You said Ballet Core and I automatically thought of Björk and her infamous Swan dress.
Literally putting that blue color sweatshirt on as you two were talking about blue lol
I was wondering when this would drop! Exciting! woo~ blue again hahaha
I was a teenager during the 70's and if you wore eyeshadow it was a blue one and done, in your face look. Silver was also worn but not as popular.
I wear a brown eyeshadow in my crease and just blue on my lid. I love it.
To connect mermaid core and the lip, I think purple lips are possibly "in" or will trend. I've already seen to cool toned and warm toned purple comparisons with different depths. That's my prediction!
I think my grunge make up of 90s was all of a black eye liner and mascara. That all over, including the water line.
one trend i’m seeing in releases and purchases is coloured (like blue) mascara - i see the blue YSL lash clash everywhere and the maybelline sky high coloured mascaras are also really popular
the 10 step skincare routine was a misunderstanding from the get go. It was an author talking about the 10 potential steps you could have in a routine. The idea was to pick and choose from them, not necessarily to do all 10.
Western media misunderstood it and corporations jumped on it to justify over-consumerism
So glad you gals are back! Great video!
I’m a 52 year old…. a pasty pale Gen X member. I’m gonna sparkle like a Cullen vampire in my grungy makeup and slackercore clothes.
Society is way overdue for someone to dig up a vampire trend (pun intended), they better go back to Lost Boys not Cullens! 😂
@@YuckyMama Oh, yes…. I was 16 when The Lost Boys was released. 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I love a monochromatic look, but I feel like that’s always how I’ve done my makeup. One trend I don’t want to come back is instagram makeup 😵💫
They always try to find a way to sell brown neutral eyeshadow & pinkish blush/lip colors as new & exciting by claiming it's a new trend
I love the conversational feel of this format. So glad you ladies are back!
Welcome BACK!!!!! I rather enjoyed your new way of beauty news. You guys are a great team.I had a few laughs out loud watching. Thank you
Regarding skincare in makeup, I never understood how it would
Make a difference if you were presumably putting this on over moisturizer and spf.
I am so damn glad y’all are back!! I’ve missed beauty news so much!
I’ve always had a simple 3 step skin routine. I’m 60 now, and I think to some degree, my skin is in better shape because I’ve never over stripped, had chemical damage, or put it thru the trauma of constantly trying too many different things.
I am in agreement that the Harper bizarre article is on track for what we will see this year and beyond.
Can confirm, I’ve nailed down my usual wing and I’m not deviating 😂
I feel like trends vacillate between ‘minimalism’ and ‘maximalism’.
YAY!!🎉 Good to see You Both. 🤗
I wear mostly black / white / red clothes, and I have noticed more red clothes in the shops lately!
Yes to the red lip! I actually, just bought a new MAC lipstick and a matching lip liner in December. Kat, you inspired me because you always look great in it. Cheers!
you guys can pry blue eyeshadow from my cold dead hands, it’s so fun
on red eyemakeup: maybelline's new burgundy mascara has given me an affordable option on a reddish mascara that isn't kevin aucoin (RIP) and I love how it subtly changes my eye look
Hahaha, it's the Bluey tv show blue. That's all I can see. 😂😂 I do love that shade of blue though.
The ombré lip is giving 90s R&B. The ombré has stayed popular in Latino communities especially in SoCal.
So happy to have Beauty News back! Can't wait to see more videos
This video was the perfect start to the weekend! Thanks ladies! ♥
Honestly, I missed you ladies! It is so good to hear your honest opinions...
As a mum of three kids under ten. I’ve always done a skincare routine 😅 I could not be arsed with the 15 step routine 😂
Sooooo happy you’re both back together! ❤❤❤
That blue color looks a lot like last year’s pantone color. Almost periwinkle. One of my favorite colors as a kid. Probably because the name is fun to say! Ha
Loved it! Can you do a review end of year to check in on what came true (sure your already planning it). Great to have you back
