    I have a 2015 f22 220d M Sport which I've owned for 7 years. I love the car, the looks, the performance and driving experience and it averages 47mpg. Your video reassures me that BMW know that this car is quite special and are to continue to produce it albeit updated, as I am thinking of buying one again. Good very informative video.

    I have the F22 220d which is remapped to 230hp. It doesn’t have the beatiful note of a petrol engine but it’s very fun to drive!

    There needs to be a gr86 vs 230i or 220i video. I am surprised nobody has made this considering tons of people will cross shop these platforms.

      Couldn't agree more and I would love to make a video like that but the GR86 is sadly not coming to Romania so I can't get hold of one. It is one of the cars I really want to drive, but I'm not sure how to make that happen right now.

    Crazy price differences compared to Portugal. We pay taxes because of emissions. Base 218i (yes, no 220i and I bet because of this issue) costs 44k. 220d is 50k. M240i is 68k. You’d think that we’d live better here than in Romania. Sorry for venting. Nice review!

    • @OneTireFire
      @OneTireFire  2 года назад

      Well, maybe you should come to Romania, see for yourself which country lives better :)
      We are taxed for displacement here and the car’s Euro emissions standard. This is factored into the yearly taxes you have to pay for car ownership. Insurance is higher on higher displacement vehicles here.

    How does it feel on the 19 inch wheels? Would they feel stiffer than a F20 M sport on 18s?

    • @OneTireFire
      @OneTireFire  10 месяцев назад +1

      It's been a few years since I last drove an F20 with the M pack, but I would say this is similarly stiff. Adaptive dampers are a must if you have bigger wheels, as they make the car far more compliant when it's set in Comfort mode. And as much as I like the wheels on this G42, I'd go for smaller ones if it was my own car.

    It seems the brakes are a real problem. I have heard about this issue on other videos too. Is this a deal breaker? Is it safer to get the M440d instead? I haven’t heard of any brake problems on that model. ThNk you

    • @OneTireFire
      @OneTireFire  Год назад

      I haven't driven that model, so I can't compare, but usually BMW unless they are true M models, won't have amazing brakes. I remember not finding the brakes great in an M340i and they gave me a very similar feeling to this 220d.
      I don't think they are a deal breaker for any of these cars, though, especially since if you upgrade the pads and brake fluid you will observe an improvement.

    Man 50k Euros for a 2l Diesel. I want to like this car and it is good, but it is so damn expensive with the M-Kit added. And you can not get the M-Diff LSD like on the 230i as an option.
    I would try to go for a M240i if possible. It is "only" 5000-6000 Euros more over this with comparable spec. And you get the beautiful B58, AWD, LSD and probably same or less deprecation.
    If this 5000k are too much maybe think about a last gen M240i F22. And if you want to save money get a Ford Diesel.

    • @OneTireFire
      @OneTireFire  2 года назад +1

      Very well put. I think on balance the 230i with the diff is realistically the best compromise. I haven't driven the current M240i, but if it's anything like the old one, it's a bit of a handful on the limit. If I bought a new 2 Series today, it would be the 230i... or if a briefcase full of money fell into my hands randomly on the street, then I'd wait for the new M2.

  • @ΧρήστοςΔενέχεισημασία

    The M-sport package is a waste in anything lower than the 230i, and even in the 230i is not really that useful. In my opinion it doesn't even make the car look good but that's subjective, i prefer the base look, especially in purple. I think m-sport additions are one of the most overrated things in modern BMWs. They typically add thinner low profile tires which make ride comfort far worse, are worse in slippery conditions, increase energy costs and lower acceleration, they are also worse in the fun department since they make the car harder to slide under normal public road speeds (which is the most fun thing people can do in these, no one is racing at 200km/h on public roads...). Thinner tires also get damaged easier and are more expensive. Add to that the sport suspension which makes the car have lower ground clearence and have harsher ride comfort still.... It also adds dynamic steering ratios which is basically worthless at public road speeds... Honestly, you are paying for the car to get worse for daily driving. And if you don't even have an engine that can really race, what is the point of making the car more track-worthy? I really don't understand why BMW uses review cars with msport even in 7second+ 0-100 economy cars like this.... Anyone who buys a 218i, 220i, or 220d and speccs for m sport is clueless about cars. It is far better to keep it at stock wheels, looks and suspension and just spend the money on upgrading to a 230i and/or the LSD (which you can get without the rest of the msport additions). It will be sportier where it matters and will have more comfort and less running costs.

    • @OneTireFire
      @OneTireFire  Год назад

      Yeah, I have to agree with you. Instead of spending on the M Sport pack on a 220, you could spend that money on a better engine or some other options. I actually prefer the look of the M Pack G42 to the one without it, but, as you say, this is subjective (I really liked the look of my tester with its wheels and color combo).
      For many BMW buyers (who are not enthusiasts or keen drivers), owning a BMW is more of a status symbol, and having one with M bits makes them feel better about themselves. They think people perceive them as cooler or something. You will see a lot of base 218s with the M pack but hardly any other options if you do a quick search on mobile :)
