Thank God, all these impressive and marvellous out-takes, images and so on were not thrown to the dustbin in the late 80s when people (even themselves) thought that ABBA was all over.
Barry Levine made superb pictures of ABBA, all of them are masterpieces. I love them.

Wonderful to see some rare photos. I'm probably not the only life-long Abba fan who is dreading the time when we will start to lose them; sorry to be so morbid but as they all get so much older it has been on my mind for a long time! I myself am now 60 years old and I saw them in concert when I was just 17!

I have been thinking about the same for quite a while, David.
No-one in my entire life has meant so much to me as those fabulous four.
      I am 62.5 now.
I can only conclude that we are very lucky to have access to the Internet and all documentaries/concerts/video clips, etc. at a click. It helps to keep sweet memories alive.

In my opinion, the Barry Levine photos are the most gorgeous photos of ABBA - don't get me wrong, I love all photo shoots of their career, but for me, Barry Levine's pictures have always captured ABBA's magic and "essence", if you can call it that, the most - I can only agree, a new Official ABBA Photo Book with all of Levine's pictures would be PERFECT for the anniversary next year!!! And thank you for offering your help in going through the archives and possibly putting together the Anthology, BB!😉Seriously speaking, I would absolutely LOVE such an Anthology!!!

Let’s hope 2024 brings us a new book and an anthology series would be great BB. Voyage extending throughout the world will keep Abba in the spotlight so any ‘new’ photos, books, videos would be great. Abba have their new remastered videos for a new Abba Gold dvd edition, they have so many songs with different mixes, extra choruses, extended versions, this would also make for great cd’s & of course they have the holy grail of unreleased tracks ‘Just Like That’ we are wanting released.. So much to enjoy, we just need the foresight and willingness of Benny & Bjorn to release. Great video BB, here’s to the future!

I hope we get the full works next year and that B&B's natural reserve doesn't stop them from really going overboard with the celebrations - an anthology with alternate mixes & unreleased tracks/the 2 new Voyage tracks, a documentary, a possible interview with all 4 members discussing their music and career, a possible refresh of the Voyage concert - the possibilities are endless. Apart from the launch of the Voyage concerts in other countries, I do think that next year is the last chance for a final hurrah from ABBA (as much as I would always wish for a brand new album follow-up to Voyage). Release the lot with bells and whistles, like The Beatles etc. did, and take my money....😂

Hi BB! As always you bring us a fantastic video-mini doc! Thank you. I believe ABBA's vaults is FULL of unreleased, unfinished, un-mixed, un-arranged songs and other demos, pictures, videos or cinema support featuring, and live recordings as well! Benny once said (talking about Just like that) that there was nothing else in the vault. Thats not true.

We have seen all the older albums get re-released with clean up, b-sides added etc - I don’t think there is much that they can do on this front except really delve into the archives and either finish off those unreleased songs or release them as they are. As much as B & B prob wouldn’t want to do such, I’m sure the fans would love this!
From things like My love, my life but with the alternative lyrics to just like that being put out there. I’d love an official live version of Get on the Carousel too!
It makes you wonder just what is hiding in those tapes. Why leave it in there? It would be the closest and best thing to ‘new’ material from Abba ….. unless they plan a new album….. I want it ALL

This is wonderful and I think you are right..there is something in the works. I can't improve on your fantastic ideas..an anthology series like what was done for the Beatles is long overdue. Do it on streaming, in the theaters, on network TV..it doesn't matter. It needs to be done! I myself would LOVE to see actual full concert footage from their 1979 tour when I saw them at Radio City in NYC. I know you can see the footage already, but I would like to see it from my time and experience. A book of all of Levine's works would be smashing and a full on restored blu ray of all their videos would be great. I went for MONTHS waiting for the release of "ABBA: The Movie" here in NYC. Read all the newspaper ads, waited and waited. I never got to see it until it suddenly appeared on cable on one of the music channels..like twenty years later! And look how long that took to release that on video? We are all clamoring for MORE ABBA!!!

  • @martinmulcahy6539

BB - this is fantastic. A few things need to happen:
Barry Levine needs to hand over all his photographic archives.
Every photo taken in the summer of 1977 (especially the Drottningholm sessions) has to be released to the fans in either a new photo book or in a documentary.
Someone also needs to put together the mini-musical in its entirety and release it. 46 years later and incredibly no video footage of ‘I Wonder (Departure) live. It’s mind-boggling.
Surely they know there’s a demand for this? If a Beatles anthology was put together after decades then there’s no excuse here. Please, somebody make it happen 🤞

BB, you hit the mark regarding an Anthology. Allow me to offer a suggestion. Such a project, if done correctly and thoroughly, would require ABBA members contributions and consent (good luck with that). This would absolutely be the correct and only approach. Bjorn has commented the story of ABBA would be "sad", but I disagree. Those clowns in Hollywood (CA) couldn't dream up a story as compelling and riveting as ABBA's true story. Leave off the internal struggles and drama for now. Nothing short of a scale and scope of Herman Wouk's Winds of War / War and Rememberance from the 1980's would do. It would be a massive undertaking to really get it right. ABBA deserves this kind of documentary. They ARE Music History. Look at what they've done for Sweden and the world of Pop Music. What would our world be without ABBA's pioneering work? Think about that. For example, the UK group Steps has taken a lot of straight out of ABBA's playbook. ABBA set the benchmark in so may ways. Do it while they are still alive! Is there someone out there with that kind of commitment and passion? Maybe........

Very nice idea and I've been thinking about such project for years. I've even wrote a message to Swedish Universal office about it, but haven't got any response. By myself, it's really a time for complete ABBA Anthology exclusive box, including all albums, live concerts on Blu-rays, outtakes, memorabilia, anything else... Now it is possible to produce and has to be made. Unfortunately, it seems like ABBA themselves not too much interested by this project, probably, because it would be worth lightly expensive... Not say about Benny, who is thinking especially negative about unreleased material... Anyway, there's something to think about...

It would seem the 50th Anniversary of Waterloo at Eurovision would be an ideal time for ABBA to release something really substantial, but.....will they? Barry Levine's photos are the best anyone ever took of the group, and really deserve a standalone release.

  • @DiegoMartinezDP
    @DiegoMartinezDP Год назад

I agree with you, BB! ABBA is in need of an updated “anthology” or documentary a-la Beatles that would give a new spin on a tale as old as time.
I admired what Peter Jackson did on the “Get Back” doc series-how he managed to slim down a ton of unreleased material into a well thought out narrative, and how he put AI capabilities to good use for that particular project.
The last official “good” documentary I remember was “The Winner Takes It All - The ABBA Story” from 1999 (I particularly don’t count 2004’s “Super Troupers” because it’s a rehash of that other documentary with some updated footage) and, as we all know, ABBA’s story went on to have a new meaning since then with “Voyage” and all.
This is a fabulous opportunity to bring all these unseen footage together, and allow Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Frida take ownership of their narrative through voiceovers (very much in the style of this year’s Netflix doc on Wham!), and tell an up-to-date version of the ABBA story, one that sees the historic return of the friendship and the project that has forever cemented their legacy for decades to come!

These new images have all appeared in the run up to Waterloo50, as BB says. Just a coincidence? And Carl Magnus Palm's new book, due for release later this year, covers exactly this sort of activity, as it examines how ABBA promoted their records. Might these photos have been unearthed as he carried out research for it? As BB implies, there is surely a link between all the activity that is going on right now behind the scenes and the new material we are being fed. I just hope that, alongside the photos and videos and shows and live material perhaps being looked at, there might also be consideration given to the archived MUSIC that's been sitting on master tapes for the last 50 years.

There must be plenty in the archives to make an anthology series. Something every ABBA fan has longed for for years. Carl Magnus Palm has described many alternate mixes in his studio sessions book to hear even some of them would be wonderful. I believe Benny when he says nothing else in the vault, as in new unreleased songs but there must be a lot of partly made recordings that could be edited into something worth listening to like the ABBA undeleted. A new book of photos would also be great to see, and again I think there must be many that were not used years ago from photo sessions.

Most of the Abba videos have been reasonably well restored, but one glaring exception is The Day Before You Came. It seems like the best version to surface so far is still sourced from videotape, yet I t was clearly originally shot on film. Has the actual film stock ever been found? A 4K restoration of this masterpiece is at the top of my list. Ey oh.

Find out the flavour and brand of that Ice Cream. It could be a good selling point for the company if they’re still around. ABBA - The Ice Cream.

I just want to see the FULL Australia concert from 1977, start to finish. The movie was nice, but many of the songs were incomplete.

There must be thousands of fans who took photos and video recordings at concerts etc. All probably sitting in albums seen by only a few friends and then not for years. My suggestion is that they send copies to you, copyright free, so you can share them with the rest of us fans. Please say if you think this is a good idea and if you agree to it. If not, do you have an alternative suggestion?

Yes. Make this really big! Something I left unmentioned, but needless to say, is that the Anthology would lead all the way to present day. To ABBA’s resurgence and “Voyage”. The final scene? After hours of voice-over only, we do get to *see* all four members, and we see them sitting together, giving a final greeting.

ABBA The Anthology ♥ For the CD release I would hope the tracks would be selected by Benny & Bjorn with Carl Magnus Palm's assistance. I wouldn't want Universal to have full control

Much video made by ABBA Fans is probably on "Super 8" millimeter and will be lost forever unless transcribed. Any suggestions? Much may have suffered "the ravages of time".

I once asked Mia from Universal Sweden about DVD releases of TV specials etc and she replied that ‘no one is interested in DVDs these days and they wouldn’t sell’ I think a new DVD/Blu-ray release would be really popular amongst AꓭBA® fans / collectors.
