  • Eckhart Tolle explains the difference between ego and healthy self-esteem. He describes healthy self-esteem as being reasonably satisfied with oneself based on personal achievements, abilities, knowledge, and possessions. However, Eckhart Tolle points out that this form of self-esteem remains a form of ego identification with external factors and comparisons.

Key point in the video: Derive your sense of who you are from the formless, the spiritual dimension, not the world of things, not from what you have, or what you can do, or what is happening in the world. Detach from what is happening in the world, be 'IN it but not OF it.'

Self esteem (your value and worth) is always ego based, because once you deal with the need of this (Shadow work) you reach a place where you need no value and worth… because who’s rating it? Who’s needing it? Who’s impressed by it?… inside and out you uncover the place you were, are and always will be…. “I am …I exist” ✨ this is enough.

    • @TheLuckyShepherd
      @TheLuckyShepherd 25 дней назад +13

Why even feel the need to be the I am? By you saying "this is enough", it means you need something. And in some way, it's almost as if you are settling. As in, this is enough, I can settle for this. That's still ego, just a low valued ego.
The reality is, there will always be ego and that's part of What Is. That is part of the I am, everything is. So accept that your ego is part of the I am and value yourself as the material property you are and it is. I absolutely love myself, other than my children I think I might be the greatest thing on Earth lol. That doesn't mean I don't love the rest of everything else, I just feel very lucky to be who I am, which as everything is, is part of the greater I Am. That's a healthy ego, acceptance of what is, which includes the ego. Not just all material property but even thoughts, ideas, concepts, anything you could touch or think of, is part of the I am. Love it all ❤

Btw… “there’s no need to be the I am” I have not said that, I spoke of uncovering “I am” that is always there. And my observation of that being enough was from a place of love to others struggling… what you speak of is the attachments that will always pass. When they do, you’re left with “I am”. Wishing you peace 🙏🏻

Thank you for sharing. Ultimately though, all self esteem come from the ego and not from the true Self. In addition, it is incorrect to refer to "my true Self." What is it then that is experiencing "true Self?" In this thinking you have created duality, a Self that is mine to have. No, the only reality is Self. There is no other. Even ego is not another, it is only delisional thinking about Self and is in fact the unreal.

I never find myself feeling good about something in my life because somebody else has less. That's a very insecure form of self esteem. You will be rattled very easily! lol As a musical person, one of my biggest inspirations has been the artist Missy Elliott, and in ways that are all form, she's much more successful than I may ever be, but I'm not bothered by that. She's fulfilling her own journey that no one else can duplicate. I can admire her music and videos without feeling like I'm lesser than. She's a big advocate for people being their true authentic selves.

Just my own opinion of course, but on a scale of 0 to 100 and 50/50 being a perfectly balanced opinion of self, there is absolutely nothing wrong with going up to 60 when we do nice or good things and equally nothing wrong with going down to 40 when we make mistakes and are not at our best, but anything over 60 or under 40 is an inflated or deflated ego that could do with a little working on. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

People tend to think that the "mind" and the "body" are the whole of themselves, but they don't realize that there is another level of self: the perfect "observer".
When you observe your thoughts, you feel that you are the observer, you know that you have a lot of troubles, thoughts running around in your head, you are the observer, not the voices and troubles in your head, and you feel at peace.
It's like observing cars on the road, you know that you're not the cars, you're just the observer observing the cars, you're at a distance from the cars, you're not affected by them, you're just observing them; In the same way, when you are observing the troubles and thoughts in your head, you know that you are not the troubles and thoughts in your head, you are just the observer observing the troubles and thoughts in your head, and there is a distance between you and the troubles and thoughts in your head, you are not affected by them, you are just observing them.
When you're observing the thoughts, you are the observer, you are observing, knowing, the sounds and the troubles in your head are working, so you the observer, are at a distance from the sounds and the troubles in your head, you're separated from them, you don't seem to be affected by the sounds and the troubles in your head, you just observe them calmly and know that they're working, so you are freed from their bondage, so the pain is reduced, and you are at peace.

I absolutely agree from a deeper knowing. But isn’t it fun to see that this is so close to ignorance too?… many live their lives as the observer of pain and strife and somehow stay the observer of this…we are all guilty in some ways… look at the recent strike on a children’s hospital… we’re the observers yet we don’t ever jump up and scream and shout this war / any war needs to stop… (sorry went off topic slightly, but I agree, as the observer (i am) we watch all our personal struggles and stay a healthy distance which reduces / eliminates bad mental health experiences ✨🙏🏻

They are not our thoughts, they are not even really about us, the mind produces thoughts and we observe the thoughts the mind produces, our minds will produce whatever thoughts, feelings, fears and worries our minds chose to produce there is nothing we can do or even need to about our minds thoughts, without our attention and involvement the mind will sort itself out just fine. Leave the mind alone to do it's own thing and the mind will leave you alone to do your own thing. Willpower to use them? Like because I have them I have to go and save the world. But the world turns yellow and my frontal lobe hurts. "To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use! As tho' to breathe were life!" (Ulysses: Alfred Lord Tennyson). Self Esteem & Ego are "meaningless" concepts which burden the soul. They do not "exist" but are said to exist, for they are brought into existence through vacuous "forms" , "shapes", and "Ideas." Such existence is porous, lacking in tangible , substantive merit. "Purpose" is what must exist in that it represents the "whole", as a determinate , elastic connection of "binary fragments." A musician has purpose. Such purpose is "innate", as its structure was "pre determined" prior to birth. In order to ascertain a method by which life is conducted, your purpose must be resolute in what transpires through the mind, body, and soul. "Purpose" can only be defined through God.

I’ve, thought about the relationship of ego and self esteem for quite a while. My opinion differs from Eckhart somewhat in that I’ve believed that ego… also known as false pride in some circles,is that state of mind that we all have as adults. It’s fed by how we want people to see us, to be revered , envied, admired, accomplished, smart, strong, intelligent, got it together….and any other positive character attribute. But seal esteem….ah that’s how WE know ourselves deep down inside…with all the warts, insecurities faults and that the roles we play and masks we wear …are but lies ,facades to gain admirations. Knowing that our egos present an imposter…our true self esteem suffers. We say IF THEY ONLY KNEW THE REAL ME THEY WOULD. OT ACCEPT OR LIKE ME.thus there’s an inverse relationship between.ego and self esteem. My goal in what life I have left, is to have an equal balance of both. Both reflecting my true self. Already I sense contentment and joy. But more work to be done.

I like my ego because it’s a wonderful toolkit for me to operate in spacetime while my body lasts, provided I use this toolkit properly.

I think it's the level of spirituality you speak of that determines how most people respond to your words. If you start telling people there is no I and trying to convince them to believe this then naturally people will struggle to take you seriously. Sometimes when we find something that is so good for us personally it's natural to want to share it with others but we have to remember that our personal beliefs and opinions are not universal facts that everyone everywhere will be interested in and want to listen to 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Nothing wrong with the self. The Vedas say the problem is in the FALSE identification, NOT in the self or identity or individuality. It's true there are roughly speaking two schools; one wich says that the self and the Self (the Ultimate Reality - Brahman) are one and the other which says we are simultaneously same AND different and can develop a relationship which in reality we all are actually looking for.

Let me break this down as I see it, logically.
That is the point, A true so called teacher or guru should have one explanation answer that should suffice the need for any questions asked by their subjects congregation, but dont, so what does that tell you, teachers and gurus' dont have a clue and therefore send you in the same revolving door of confusion they are in.
How can the teacher use and say, quote: " as a human BEING evolves" when that does not fit with the teachers consciousness being the be all end all of things. ie his teachings have nothing to do with the physical aspect of a human being biology evolving and now he wants to use it.
Ok, here we have ESTEEM being given to the teacher by the confused congregation, " well they must be confused otherwise they wouldn't need to be there seeking". After receiving ESTEEM, the teacher now has SELF-ESTEEM or to make it correct by the teacher, it's healthy SELF-ESTEEM which manifested into healthy no HYPHEN selfesteem which is now manifested as ASSERTIVENESS upon others. This is true and to justify it by saying one is satisfied who they are, such is the case, then to confirm ones own satisfaction beliefs, one requires the ESTEEM ADMIRATION from others, such is the case. This is the only BASIS of for any teacher and guru. This is true, quote;" as one gets older" and proof is right there when comparing early an older videos. Superficially speaking of course.
