In this VladTV clip, Jon B sat down with Vlad and spoke about a variety of topics. The two noted they went back 15 years, and that Jon B laid vocals on Vlad’s ‘Rap Phenomenon’ series.
From there, Jon B spoke about staying healthy, growing up in Los Angeles and noted that he comes from a family of classically trained musicians. Jon B said he started singing around eight years old, along with playing piano and making beats.

Being a white guy myself, Jon B in my opinion was a super legit RnB singer that was genuinely in there with the greats of the 90’s with no question of race, really inspired me to be myself growing up in the 90’s being white and only into proper RnB when everyone else I new had no clue of the like of Jon B, Jodeci, Dru Hill etc. How grateful I am for the 90’s RnB music, incredible era

Music is the racial melting pot. A lot of these rock groups were influenced by black/music singers. Some of the bands included people of color, and black back up singers especially the touring bands. Aretha Franklin's greatest music during the 60's was made with an all white band. These men were down home Alabama born and bred musicians. The baddest bass and guitar riffs ever heard in her early music.
Elvis Presley's back up singers were the Sweet Inspirations which included Cissy Houston, Whitney's mom. Elton John started out as Pattie LaBelle's pianist. The Stones used to open for Little Richard. Early jazz artists had mixed bands, and singers even though the black musicians could not check into hotels and eat at restaurants.
The band War, included some if the best musicians in the world. Black, white, Latino, Asian. Hiroshima, a smooth jazz band with Japanese American musicians and sound was one of the top quiet storm groups in black radio.
Country music and blues are the greatest marriage between two genres. George Jones, Charlie Rich, Johnnie Taylor, Ray Charles and the Pointer Sisters have made some great music based on these influences. Negro spirituals and African tribal music gave birth to Gospel and the blues. Truly music embraces us all!!

My wife and went to a park concert a couple years ago in Seattle and it was horrible. Jon B and Case was so professional even though the event planner failed on all levels. The microphones didn't work properly but Jon B sang anyway but Case refused to work in such conditions. Jon B is a REAL singer who can sing live with or without a working microphone.

Even though she had some soulful R&B songs, she made her bread and butter with her pop material. The same is true with those guys you just mentioned. They can be soulful when they want, but they weren't always committed to just soul and R&B music like Jon B. is/was as a so-called "blue-eyed soul" artist.

One of my favorite singers of all time, I have all his albums even the indie ones like Helpless Romantic, his skin color has never mattered to me, his songs about loving your wife, having a child, plus his tracks with Scarface are all about just being a human navigating through life. I recommend everybody listen to them.
