    Two of the greatest moments in 20th century orchestral history were this performance of Fidelio and Mr. Bernstein's direction of Beethoven's 9th in Berlin after East Germany fell apart. What freedom, joy and happiness!

    This is a amazing profomence not one note 🎵🎶 missing even Beethoven would be delighted with the orchestral playing of this masterpiece, we are so lucky to have heard and seen this wonderful profomence.

    Un día memorable de la Filarmónica de Viena con una grabación en vivo mejor que muchas en cd o vinilo, maravillosa Obertura, es una pena que no se pueda escuchar por RUclips la versión de la Leonora 3 para esta Ópera incorporada por Bernstein en esa ocasión, siguiendo la recomendación de Gustav Mahler.

    Fidelio is a better overture to the opera, but Leonore 3 is a better piece of music. Love me some Lenny. Got to play under him at Tanglewood in the 80s and I'll never forget it!

    Se le dan muchos créditos al conductor mas sin embargo el compositor fue el que escribió todo lo que este dirige, todo esta plasmado en las partituras.También los músicos deberían de tener un mayor crédito ya que objetivamente ellos hacen esta hermosa música c:

      El conductor a su vez es una pieza clave e única, ya que el propio Beethoven al dejar plasmado la obra, muchas veces no podría dirigirla ya que tenía problemas de sordera

    @Vanchy58 Sí, exactamente, esta versión es genial y la grabación es excelente, se escuchan perfectamente los instrumentos, incluso el concertino toca con todas las ganas. Tenés los link de las distintas escenas de esta versión de Bernstein??? me quedé con las ganas de escuchar los cantantes

      Si bien Bach es superior técnicamente a Beethoven, no tiene el caudal de humanidad, sentido lógico, continuidad, aporte histórico y profundidad del cisne de Bonn.

    Maybe it's my imagination but this version sounds slightly slower than other versions, and I actually think it sounds better. It kind of ruins all other performances since everyone else plays it at the 'right' speed.

    Only in America do orchestras insult their audiences with thunderous cacaphony of warming up onstage before a concert. Beethoven would have been aghast, and even the great Bernstein might disapprove of this noisome practice.

    He’s a great composer, educator, and musician. But his conducting is less than impressive. His motions are very restrictive.

    Beethoven's opera music was mostly a dud.He was WAY behind Mozart in this area.

      Beethoven doesn’t have much affinity for melody writing as necessary for good operas and arias. Fidelio was a masterpiece in its own rite however, like a symphonic opera rather than a tradition opera.
