Two of the greatest moments in 20th century orchestral history were this performance of Fidelio and Mr. Bernstein's direction of Beethoven's 9th in Berlin after East Germany fell apart. What freedom, joy and happiness!
The Soviet Union fell apart. Thank you Mr. Reagan, Mrs. Thatcher, and M. Gorbachev for endignthe Cold War! E. German was innocent of the terrorism visited on them by Stalin, his Soviet successors, and their E. German police puppets..
This is a amazing profomence not one note 🎵🎶 missing even Beethoven would be delighted with the orchestral playing of this masterpiece, we are so lucky to have heard and seen this wonderful profomence.
What a remarkable overture to a noble opera! It is one of the profound pleasures of life: the incomparable Beethoven being conducted by the incomparable Bernstein!
Fidelio hasn't ever been more humanistic, or heroic, than in today's troubled (and divided) world. This work is a guiding light for troubled souls; One that will live on forever, and ever.
Fidelio is a better overture to the opera, but Leonore 3 is a better piece of music. Love me some Lenny. Got to play under him at Tanglewood in the 80s and I'll never forget it!
Luis Eduardo Guzman Arbelaez Absolutamente imposible.
Maybe it's my imagination but this version sounds slightly slower than other versions, and I actually think it sounds better. It kind of ruins all other performances since everyone else plays it at the 'right' speed.

Beethoven and Bernstein.Made for each other.
Not only a brilliant Conductor, also pianist, composer, and human beeing , what more accolades can one give R I P, Rene
This man understands the mind of Beethoven
goosebumps, again and again, eternal Maestro Bernstein!
❤🎉

Great conductor, great musician, Mr. Leonard Bernstein!!!
HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY LENNY!
WOW! What an ensemble performance! Marvelous!
Bravo Beethoven!!!!!!
We're playing the overture this November in my youth symphony.
I hope your performance went very well.
If the greatest muscial genius ever created something that was not beyond genius. That it is
One of the best cast listsI've ever seen for Fidelio...
Certainly agree with you re: Lucia Popp, but I'm less certain about the other singers.
Un torrente in piena!!!!!! Bellissimo
great. so beatiful and strong. leonard bernstein was a one of excellent conductor of the world. thank you for uplording.

Very lousy camera footage. Too much Bernstein, not enough of the musicians.

He’s a great composer, educator, and musician. But his conducting is less than impressive. His motions are very restrictive.
Sean Music has no boundaries and Bernstein was a great conductor

Beethoven's opera music was mostly a dud.He was WAY behind Mozart in this area.
Mozart was behind Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, Bizet and so on. They got the real leadership in opera area.
Mozart is light years behind Beethoven's genious.
