I recall watching this fight. The Ref really gave Holmes every chance to recover. Had this been a lesser fighter, it would have been stopped. Holmes had to hang on to Shavers to make it thru the round. Larry got real lucky on this one....
Today they’d have stopped that fight after that knock down based on how Holmes stumbled. Makes you realise how many fighters could go on to win today if the referees were not bound by strict health and safety regulations

When later interviewed and asked what he would have done to Holmes had he not gotten up Chuck Norris without any hesitation stated "I was going to grab Shavers by the ankles and use him to club Larry to death."
