barney stinson I wouldn’t if Holmes wasn’t so full of himself claiming he was better then Ali and acted like he beat a prime Ali and then when Tyson kicks his ass he’s like oh I was old. Holmes is just a dollar discount Ali. Nothing more,
Iron Mike Ali was the great that even a doller discount of him is still one of the greatest and Holmes actualy idolized Ali he went easy on him im their fight
That punch would have killed some people, his whole body went into it. Holmes later said that he was knocked out but hitting the canvas woke him back up.
You know what.... that makes perfect sense I'm using it for now on. They really are two different experiences. Ones like getting hit with a Baseball Bat the others like having a 10 pound sack dropped on you.
@@pricetilghman2217 I got my assessment from journeyman Leroy Caldwell: who described their punches and differences. He claims that Earnie’s punch “felt like a sledgehammer” and that Foreman’s punch felt like a “KABOOM”
R.I.P Earnie Shavers, one of the hardest hitting boxers of all time, and maybe one of the best Heavyweights never to win a world title, that right hand that put Larry Holmes down was brutal, and i still don’t know how Larry got up off the floor to win the fight. 🙏🏿
I recall watching this fight. The Ref really gave Holmes every chance to recover. Had this been a lesser fighter, it would have been stopped. Holmes had to hang on to Shavers to make it thru the round. Larry got real lucky on this one....
Today they’d have stopped that fight after that knock down based on how Holmes stumbled. Makes you realise how many fighters could go on to win today if the referees were not bound by strict health and safety regulations
Just a head-splintering, decapitating shot. But Larry somehow was able to screw his head back on, recollect his senses, get up, and win. Pure heart of a great champion.
Larry was the man alright. His fight against another big hitter Tim Witherspoon he got hit by a barrage of punches that would have put most heavyweights in Dreamland and he absorbed it and came back. He went on to win on points. A warrior like Evander, Frazier, Ali...
I agree! Nobody came back from being hurt like Larry. However, Witherspoon was robbed. Look at Larry’s face at the closing bell. He knows he lost that fight.
@@sampsonl-mill4530 yeah I thought so too, I was referring more to his warrior tenacity, which puts him into all time greats. Tim reminded a lot of Ken Norton who had some dubious or coin flip calls made against him.
I once saw an interview with George Foreman in which he explained that shots like the one in this video don't hurt initially. It's more like throwing a switch, and all of the lights go out. Reboot punch.
Shavers may had connected with a follow up and KOd Holmes? It was 50/50 it could of happened? If Holmes was KOd it would of altered his whole heavyweight career into another direction……..Holmes would of not been as legendary today had Shsvers finished him? Holmes defeating Shsvers via decision after getting dropped like that built his confidence and momentum through the roof believing himself more than ever!
Five years age difference, Larry was at his peak and Earnie was not at his peak. Earnie was at his peak three years ago when he fought with Ali in 1977.
Could be that when they actually got hit hardest the went out and didn't remember it, could also be that what you don't se knocks you out, and you could see shavers punch from a mile away, so they could braće for it but still went down due to raw power
He was able to get up because when he was lying on the canvas he saw the man in the crowd that told him he had bet fifty cents on him winning and it would not be good for Holmes if he lost. When later interviewed and asked what he would have done to Holmes had he not gotten up Chuck Norris without any hesitation stated "I was going to grab Shavers by the ankles and use him to club Larry to death."
This was according to shavers the hardest punch he has ever thrown.
Larry was a real man with a lot of heart no regular man could have recovered from that shot.
mikevickphi when he hit the floor it woke him up Ali had greater heart
Iron Mike stop comparing just appreciate they are both legends

Na Shavers got too exited . He shoulda waited a little and connect with his punches but he went wild and that’s whenLarry recovered.
Listen to the sound of that punch, sounded like he hit him with a baseball bat.
That punch would have killed some people, his whole body went into it. Holmes later said that he was knocked out but hitting the canvas woke him back up.
He got right back up after getting hit on the sweet spot by one of the heaviest hitters of all time.
Truly astounding. Every time I watch this I find it hard to believe that he got up. That shot was like he decapitated Larry
For a split second holmes must’ve seen god from that otherworldly punch
Earnie hit "harder"
Foreman hit "heavier"

It's hard for Earnie because if he lands that on any fighter 25 years before Holmes or 25 years after Holmes, he's the champion.
Earnie always said he was Champ....for 6 seconds!😅😂🤣
Harder than the first punch Tyson dropped him with. He always got up. Heart of a Lion
Man, that looked like it hurt for real. That man could punch. Damn.
Holmes said Ernie hit him too hard and that he was out cold from it but hitting the canvas woke him back up then instincts took over.

Yeah the referee’s action was disappointing Larry was given time to recover .
The ref did not give Holmes every chance to recover.
@@mandingodestroyer3104 he got up and kept fighting. No way you count the champ out like that.

Incredible , how did he get up !!!
He hit the canvas so hard that he got consciousness back again

How in the fuck did he get up?
Props for getting right back up after the knock down
That punch sounds like Thunder
Wow!! How he got up!! That’s what we should be talking about! Good Lord!
Larry, I have one question how the actual fuck did you get up from that? Holy smokes that was a BOMB
I know how he got up after eating that haymaker. His soul knocked into next week and came back to pick up the body.
