I love the minimal editing approach and the "light-ish" plugin approach. Thanks for walking through mix for this song.

Lovely track Paul. I'm also happy to see you using the Cimbalom. It's so fun to use and gives a unique texture to tracks, when used right. I'm interested knowing, if we will we see another video, of how you make all tracks sound equally loud in the mastering process, so the album sound doesn't sound off.

Thanks so much for getting to this. Been waiting :-) I find it curious that you still have some midi at the mixing stage rather than committing to audio. In any case brilliantly done. Thank you.

Thanks! Yes - just didn't seem necessary to bounce it down - I probably would have in protools in the old days though!

@@PaulThomsonMusic Ahh. Even with today's faster more capable computers I still bounce midi down to future proof my music/projects.

Great video, Paul. I'd for one like to see more. Good song. Mixing is a really preference thing. I've always had a little trouble preferring 'warm hug' drums. I have this issue on a number of John Mayer tracks too. But it's how the sound hits me initially. I usually grow to like the drum sound more over time. In this track the only thing I have issue with is the snare sound. It's a little too flabby and dry for me. I wonder what a little tighter sound with some pop to it would sound like. Perhaps even give it more of a wash sound in the sections that get a wash ambiance. But that's all preference and really, it's a great track! Thanks for the video!!

Thanks! Interesting thoughts - I'll definitely do one of the tracks that has quite harder hitting rhythm - where the drums lead. Watch out for that one!

Thanks for sharing Paul, I know it's not easy to do this with your songs. They are like ours, baby's.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like
Benny Hill? I am always waiting for a joke. Anyway, great job again. 😊

lol!! Not Benny Hill - but Zach Galifianakis, Paul Gascoigne, Brian Blessed (!), the list goes on..

Each instrument is beautifully designed, written and performed. The whole thing is too vanilla, lacking personality and character. It’s not boring but it’s not memorable either. I think this happens with a lot of well educated composers. Studio musicians can play everything but loose the imperfections and raw enjoyment.
It’s like mixing too many delicious ingredients in one pot.
Anyway, I did enjoy this episode and my opinion is just from an amateur listener perspective.

Glad you enjoyed the vid and I'm probably not as well educated as you think lol.. I studied aero engineering so I'm mostly self taught when it comes to composing!
