Long live Doug! And long live my cousin jessie who taught me about him before he passed. They both went too early. I hope music never decides to one day fail to heal you. Stay strong friends!
While it's kind of comforting to see them old too, in my head they are still in their 20's. Time absolutely goes too fast but this song will always bring back memories as to what it was like to be young and the feelings you go through. I will always love Robin Wilson and the Gin Blossoms!
So crazy how young they were when they made New Miserable; only in their late 20s. Time flies too fast. I miss my childhood and thankfully, this band was a part of it. Been a fan since I was 9 years old.
Wow! So nice to see John Richardson (drummer) so clearly in the video. Fantastic drummer, wonderful person and I'm sure he's loving every note! I'm glad they invited him to join the band. You go John! Peace, Cary
This song is not about teenage angst. This song was written when Doug was in his mid 20's. It is about (obviously) a girl who cheated on him and sucker punched him, breaking a tooth. The saddest line for me is "the love I thought I'd won, you give for free".
...SONG OF THE DAY!!! 🤘🏿ULTRAMEGAROLOTA🤘🏿13/12/2020
Haha I've seen them live at sunfest and have listened to this a ridiculous amount of times, and I never caught why his voice made me think of Tommy Boy
GB is just amazing!!!! and yes why is this guy not playing at a sold out arena. I will be the first in line. I own every cd this GB ever made. GB music has a message unlike the garbage nowadays. It will never go!!!!!!
Justmiss jamey Have you ever been in a band? Dealing with someone in the band who is a drug user or is shady themselves is DETRIMENTAL to a new developing band. Sometimes the best thing to do is to kick them out even though they were an important piece. At least they were honest enough to give him writing credits for those songs. But only if Doug was still alive, just imagine all the other songs he would have wrote.
+Justmiss jamey Sadly, listen to the lyrics of this song…. He had a rough life. Poor guy. On top of his dark depression, he had to most likely deal with a relationship gone wrong to make him spiral even more.No telling all of the things he fought in his head.
I agree, what happened to Hopkins wasn't right, the band should have stuck by him. He was a drunk, but he wrote most of their best-selling songs, what comes first a friend or money...
I was born in 91 and still this song and many others from the 90's ring so many bells of riding around with my mom in her old blue dodge while she smoked a joint. riding around lake tyler. Good ol east texas.
"is there a line that i could write...sad enough to make you cry"..is such a clever lyric. epic epic song. my fave of the 90s.
Favorite line of the song
+simes6600 The songwriter is dead by his own hand.
Perhaps my favourite track off the album
As a writer, I promise you that every writer wishes he or she could produce a line or lyric as great as this🙂
Such a brilliant lyric.
This band was so underrated, they wrote beautiful songs
RIP Doug Hopkins! original lead guitarist of Gin Blossoms and writer of this song.
Long live Doug! And long live my cousin jessie who taught me about him before he passed. They both went too early. I hope music never decides to one day fail to heal you. Stay strong friends!
what a great song.
His music will last forever
He wrote Hey Jealousy as well......just amazing.
One of the best rock songs ever! It always stirs up deep memories of my last years of being single in the nineties.
I am 63, just started following them, this song is great 👍
This is their best song. Ever. Hands down.
Probably, but Pieces of the Night is a close second.
Hey jealousy! # 1 baby.
@@RWald8888 Yeah, that's a good one, too.
Arguably…. I think Follow You Down is the best.
Until I fall away! That’s their best
I play this working out with tears in my eyes....every time. It is truth
Philip Nick I feel you brother
oh man the 90s! i was young and indestructible and this song was a part of it.
I was young and indestructible in the 60s. But still love this song.
Back to the 90s...the golden years of rock.
whenever i hear the intro to this song in public, i become a different person
While it's kind of comforting to see them old too, in my head they are still in their 20's. Time absolutely goes too fast but this song will always bring back memories as to what it was like to be young and the feelings you go through. I will always love Robin Wilson and the Gin Blossoms!
I just cant stop listening to this song....
Great song then, Great song now - R.I.P Doug
This song never gets old for me :)
Man I was 10 to 20 years old in the 90s I can't believe it's been that long
I love this band. And I completely miss the 90's!!
So crazy how young they were when they made New Miserable; only in their late 20s. Time flies too fast. I miss my childhood and thankfully, this band was a part of it. Been a fan since I was 9 years old.
math is off. Robin is 50 this year. he did a gig at Paramount that night. NME was 92. so he was...... I feel old now.
+Ian Cohen Um, you may want to check your stats out there buddy. In 1992, he would have been 27, 28 years old. Again, late 20's.
i hope they can tour again, they're a great band , sounds so good live!
What a song
Wow! So nice to see John Richardson (drummer) so clearly in the video. Fantastic drummer, wonderful person and I'm sure he's loving every note! I'm glad they invited him to join the band. You go John! Peace, Cary
If you haven't seen these guys in concert, or just playing at a pub...you're missing an experience.
Such an underrated band
One of the most underrated songs, rip Doug
Months roll by the love you struck dead. Brilliant.
They still sound as great as they did back in the 90s. Thanks for posting this video

So adults hang out at a school yard? Think again. It's about teenage angst and what we all went thru back then
Wooow todo lo q podemos recrear en nuestras cabezas y dios mio es devastador me parte en 2 q.e.p.d doug
I think the school yard might be a metaphor for just hearing through people talking…or, in today’s world, social media, or whatever.
Maybe late 20s Doug had a taste for jailbait?
@@williambrodala8144The school yard represents gossip. It’s a metaphor.
did you love me only me in my head💔
awww... he's always proud to tell people he's from Arizona. Which he left, and doesn't live in anymore.
Dude -- I was so in love with his voice and whoever this girl was... Damn... you messed up...
Sound even better live
Great song. 💘
they still got it :)
I agree. This song was great. I never forgot it.
Back to the 90s!!!!! I love this song.
Great song. RIP Doug. Also the girl in the crowd is absolutely gorgeous! !! They show her last clapping. Brown hair. Very very cute !!
When he sings 'warp in on am radio' I always get the chills...
These guys still sound so good
Love you Gin Blossoms xxx
Thanks for the great memories gin blossoms..
DAMN! This is still a GREAT song!
Still makes me remember this one girl in middle school and high school. Everyone talked about her at multiple schools.
Listened to these guys in the 90's as a young Marine, first time actually seeing them.
Fat/skinny/geeky.
God DAMN I love this fucking band.

The song conveys sadness and angst equal to anything Shakespeare ever wrote.

Haha
I've seen them live at sunfest and have listened to this a ridiculous amount of times, and I never caught why his voice made me think of Tommy Boy
RIP Dough Hopkins
Such a babe ❤
Why do they show the drummer and then the crowd during the GUITAR solo?
skydog757 The camera operators must not be musicians.
They have been doing that since forever. Drives me crazy.
lol
GB is just amazing!!!! and yes why is this guy not playing at a sold out arena. I will be the first in line. I own every cd this GB ever made.
GB music has a message unlike the garbage nowadays. It will never go!!!!!!
❤️💔
Back in high school, I was section leader of the drummer in this video. Crazy!!
Oh my god, it does haha!
Too bad doug hopkins couldnt have been a part of this. .rip...he wrote amazing songs....too bad this band treated him so shady

you notice they never had hits after he was fired, then committed suicide.....I hope his family gets royalties...
Yeah the power of AGEING
WOAH!!! TOTALLY!!! YOU CALLED IT!!!! LOL
great r
One of the best crock-pot songs/records from the 90s.
I agree, what happened to Hopkins wasn't right, the band should have stuck by him. He was a drunk, but he wrote most of their best-selling songs, what comes first a friend or money...
I agree but they were all young, dealing with their own demons.
@toddcochran85 IT DOES!! spade rules btw
Is that david spade talking?
Them humbuckers is loud...
bill paxton is now a band frontman?
isnt that drummer the former guitarist?
If only I had been born '82 instead of '92 and could have properly experienced the 90s.... Shame
You'd have to be born in 1970 to properly experience the 90's ;)
I was born in 91 and still this song and many others from the 90's ring so many bells of riding around with my mom in her old blue dodge while she smoked a joint. riding around lake tyler. Good ol east texas.
