    The trash can liners in the grass catcher on the JD is a great idea. I bag a lot of grass when I have the time, put it in my compost pile and sell it back to my customers the next summer for use in a veg garden.

    Nice job. This is exactly what I was thinking about doing this year. Thank you for showing just how much easier it is to let the de-thatcher and riding mower do the work. Before I used a hand de-thatcher and it wore me out. Now to purchase one of those de-thatchers.

    Great video - to the point and informative. I de-thatch at the beginning of the season, that was I pick up al the debris that mother nature put on the lawn too. I have an Agri fab Lawnsweeper, with a de-thatcher attached to the front of it, it throws the thatch into the hopper, and i pull the handle to dump on my mulch pile (a huge time saver on my big yard). With 2 acres to take care of I'd go broke buying bags, lol.

    I bought the same Brinly-Hardy dethatcher to tow behind my Husqvarna tractor, and it works really well. You don't understand how much thatch lies underneath smothering your lawn until you run the dethatcher over it. But for the next step, I use my lawnsweeper. From what I've seen here on RUclips, the lawnsweepers seem to be more popular in Canada than in the US.

    WHy do you take steps to make your lawn look nice (ie. dethatching) but then lay down the KY 31 grass seed? KY31 is not a good lawn seed -- it's for pastures, large areas, etc. Should be looking at a Tall Fescue or something similar. Just a thought for you.

    I bought a new house outside of Columbia, Pa. in '17. Lawn was a mess. And then the grubs killed half the lawn and I had tons of dead grass everywhere. Used the Agrofab drag rake. Bagged up 15 bags of dead grass. But I found that pavers 2-3 are the better choice. Cinderblock seemed too heavy and was pulling up good grass too.

    Just got one similar to yours. But I didn't get it for the lawn, I'm more concerned with areas I'm using a small backhoe to reclaim the yard from brush, vines and small trees. There is so much leaf, branches and pine needles left behind and I don't want to hand take a 1/4 acre.
    What I'm looking for is an easy way to clear the de-thatcher from vines, branches, leaves and pine needles, without having to get on my knees and hand pull it out after each pass.

    Don't put the plastic bags in the bager. you need to let the air out, that is why the mower bags have holes, for the air to get out but to trap the grass. also if you make a compost pile and compost all that grass you will get even more green out of it.

    • @JM-yx1lm

    • @Kiddro22
      @Kiddro22 5 лет назад

      If you have a mulching mower you have to be on it depending how fast your grass grows. Its best to only take a 1/3 off the top if you're going to mulch it back into the grass. That small amount that's clipped off and mulched will decompose back into the dirt. Anything clipped off over atleast 1/3 most likely wont decompose as much back into the dirt and will sit down at the base of the grass on top of the dirt. This is what is as described as "Thatch".

      Had that model for years, so long as the ground is flat the chances of failure is very low.

      Yeah I live on hills , I burned mine tranny out in 6 years. It still worked on flat areas but hills it slowed to a crawl.
      I just put a K66 transmission in my D130 ! So nice now! LOVE LOVE it.

      Depending on the weather and type(s) of grass, longer grass can be healthier.
      Healthy grass doesn't require supplemental watering or fertilizing, herbicides, and doesn't need to be mowed as frequently.
