Welcome to the wonderful world of Cinema 4D! I started off with Max as well and never looked back;) There's loads more training like this on our website cgshortcuts.com if you want to learn more!
Hello, very useful tutorial) could you please tell me where in the settings to make the fabric that went down the stairs not be so stretched, and repeat the shape of the stairs to look natural, as you have on the splash cover of this video
@@anyakeyton5247 I think I baked the clothsim to keyframes then I made a second still copy with the dropping steps, and morphed from the animated one to the still one using fields. I think the exact setup is in the project file
Great trick, I have a concern about high value in "with force", this parameter is like "follow position / follow rotation" in bullet dynamic, so high settings can ignore dynamic and stick more to animation, follow shape can help if we are using deformers, but still 40 or 60 can work not good as 5-10 But we need to test it 😀
awesome project! Though the fx dont show up in my Octane renderer, its just a flat plane even in the viewport it works exactly as it should, any ideas why the renderer isnt calculating the sim??
The rolled object renders flat? Shouldnt have anything to do with the renderer. Do you have layers that are set not to render deformers maybe? Try downloading the project file and see if you still get problems
hi! amazing tutorial! just a question. i added the stairs option as you did but mine are pretty different and they do not have a base to them. they're only stairs. so i could not change the 'support type' to solid as you have shown at 12:00. also i put the stairs and the rolled up cloth on top of it but i cannot access to the 'fix points' to fix the cloth's end to place. i can see the options but i cannot click it. please help i have a project due tomorrow 😭
the cloth also rolls straight. like it does not follow gravity and just rolls straight to the right without dropping. i added the gravity but its not working.
Cheers Aniqa. Theres 2 Stairs objects in the asset browser, sounds like youre using the wrong one;) Making the cloth editable is how you can select points and fix them in place, switch to point mode to make the selection - take a look at the project files for the exact setup
Hey Dave, First thank you for great tutorial :) and I have a quick question for you: I could not worked with Bend and Gravity together :( when I using bend object doesn't affect by Gravity, could you help me with this?
I’m having a hard time making the fabric kinda settle in between each stair like you did in your final render .. the object lays flat on the staircase. What can I do to fix that?
Animate it runrolling then rolling back up before applying dynamics, then it should just be a matter of playing with the MIX ANIMATION settings to get it to stick back to the original animation when it rolls back - might be a bit more difficult for the stairs example. Maybe you could bake the animation then just reverse it
Amazing! It would be cool to see more cloth simulation, like maybe lifting a cloth up to reveal something.
Great idea, ill add that to the list;)
@@CGShortcutsI haven't seen much stuff like that on RUclips, it would be really helpful.
Very helpful stuff for diving into the simulation settings more granularly
No problem! Don't forget to subscribe if you dont want to miss more videos like this, we upload new stuff all the time;)
My first practical lesson in cinema which showed me how easy it is to work here in comparison with 3Ds max. Thank you!

That's impressive you really unroll it so smoothly.
Cheers, this technique was definitely the best I found. Loads more tutorials like this at cgshortcuts.com
I learned so much in just 10 minutes! 😎

Thanks for the tutorial, it's really great🙏🏼
The Dresser menu is locked and I cannot control it. How can I solve this?
You need to make your plane an editable mesh (press 'C' on object)
Hello, very useful tutorial) could you please tell me where in the settings to make the fabric that went down the stairs not be so stretched, and repeat the shape of the stairs to look natural, as you have on the splash cover of this video
Cheers, I actually blended the animation with a pose morph to get it to do that more precisely
@@CGShortcuts Where should I add pose morph, on the cloth roll? I don't know how to use it, I'm just learning :)))

@@CGShortcuts Thanks! I tried many things to achieve those effects. coz u don't mention it on the video
Good!
Cheers!
Great video.

You are amazing my friend

Great Tuto ! I have a problem with stair unrolling. The carpet does not have the shape of the staircase like the intro video. how to solve this ?
I actually used a pose morph to help it get into the shape I wanted, take a look at the project file for the exact setup

Yeah it can be a bit hit and miss when working with cloth, a lot of trial and error to get the result you want
Very nice
Cheers Omar!
Hello. Very cool. How to create the effect of paper rather than fabric? 😊
Cheers, you could just make the cloth less sretchy so it looks more like paper
@@CGShortcuts ❤
lovely - cheers
No problem CORE

Hey Dave,
First thank you for great tutorial :)
and I have a quick question for you:
I could not worked with Bend and Gravity together :( when I using bend object doesn't affect by Gravity,
could you help me with this?
Cheers Baris, You might need to increase the MIX ANIMATION setting so the cloth adheres to the BEND DEFORMER more
@@CGShortcuts Hey, the problem is Gravity (Acceleration:2000and mode: Force, also I tried other modes ), and it does not work with the bend.
i have the same problem ,did you figure it out? THX for sharing
I’m having a hard time making the fabric kinda settle in between each stair like you did in your final render .. the object lays flat on the staircase. What can I do to fix that?
I actually cheated a bit and used a morph tag on top - take a look at the project file
now how can i roll it back again after unrolling? yk to make a seamless animation
Animate it runrolling then rolling back up before applying dynamics, then it should just be a matter of playing with the MIX ANIMATION settings to get it to stick back to the original animation when it rolls back - might be a bit more difficult for the stairs example. why i dont have stairs operator?(( R26 version
I think its in 2023+
You need to pirate the latest version 😃😃
There is no 'mix animation' in my c4d r26
You'll need a newer version Yas
@@CGShortcuts thank you so much 🙏
