As a kid I walked past a high end Hi-Fi store every day on my way back home from elementary school and the owner was a Deodato - Charlie Antolini and other jazz greats of the 1970s fan. I stopped by just to listen at least once a week for about an hour and Eumir was one of my favorites.
No orchestra, no horns, just guitar, bass, keys drums and percussion. It's fantastic. Recorded beautifully.
Better than I'd hoped. Just fantastic.
Deodato's Sprach! A golden piece of history! This was my introduction to jazz fusion back in '73. Fuck yeah!
so good, I grew up with this in the early 70s
One of the greatest classical music pieces ever and the studio version is a masterpiece.
I got the original album back in the beginning of the 70´s. Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke, Chris Spedding, and more. So innovative and great. Knowing all the little details and syncopes back then was a fantastic arrangement.
Eumirs new crew ( very skilled musicians ) holds up their part perfect. To play this without the horn section and not loosing the big picture is difficult,,,, but these guys managed to do it. BRAVO !!!!
pbstratocaster -Totally I agree with you on this one. Very well said.
Chris Spedding played on the original? I had no idea. My father used to play the record all the time. I burned one with Chris in 1980. He was with Robert Gordon
Needs the horns.
Also Sprach Zarathrustra is the jazz version of Richard Strauss' classical version of the same title.
@@AlfUckhamHall Richard Strauss would have agreed.
Late to the show, but this is magnificent. Richard Strauss (1864-1949) wrote Also Sprach Zarathustra in 1896.
Intense.....drummer is phenom
Just great! Such magic Guitar player, sounds extremely clear ,just pro! Eumir Deodato? No comments! His career talks for its self! Proud to be Brazilian like him! Muito bom
The drummer is having the best time out of all of them!
Billy Cobham on the original album.
They usually do since they are encased in a world all their own where all other instruments and band-members are secondary to themselves.
Love everything about this recording. Anyone who loves this song as much as I do should watch the movie being there with Peter Sellers. God bless...
Yes ! Awesome movie, bro. (And let’s not forget the very “confusing” ending credits, with the bloopers 😊❤)
@@FlorinPiersicJr1 in my collection..yes a super movie
Yes haha!…that wonderful movie brought me here. I just purchased this song and basketball jones from iTunes…lol.
I first heard this while travelling from Liverpool to Australia & New Zealand as a a dog handler on the ACT V1 in January 1974. A recording which brings back fabulous memories of a remarkable voyage when I was livestock shipping manager of Spratt's Patent Ltd ( sadly now defunct ). The officers of ACT V1 played this recording incessantly and quite understandably. A really wonderful piece of music not to be ignored ever. The 1974 version is the best ever...
Such an awesome performance of an awesome reimagining of an awesome piece of music. You guys were great; it's such a shame it didn't quite make Billboard #1.
Number 2 was pretty good
Number 2 and on the chart for three months. It was a huge hit, and for a jazz record, very impressive.
Espetacular❤❤❤
Zarathustra had fun. Exactly !!!))
This was meant to be the introduction to the 21st Century
For me it was
Thanks for posting this, Giorgio. And thanks to Richard Strauss, Eumir Deodato, and Euro Groove Department. =8-o As they say, "Mind blown..." I hope I can do ANYTHING this well when I'm 69 years old......it's already too late to WRITE anything this good. ;-)
+nospam199 Thanks you too... it's never too late!! :-)
BRAVO !!!! I remember this music back in 1974.... Bravo !!!!!!!!!
I must admit I never heard of this before today. All instruments are so sync with one another delivering such a wonderful sound
Same HERE! Just found this TONIGHT! Talk about synchronized! TOTALLY EXCELLENT! WOW!
You're just feeling E.G.D.
@@cessaly100 You're just feeling E.G.D.
Marco Maggiore: Ein hervorragender Drummer. Ich liebe seinen Stil.
✨❤️✨
Stimt.
Great jamming.....free style, with a harder edge.....nice update of the early 70's Deodato version many have loved for decades, by the man himself, with younger players...awesome..
I literally just discovered Eumir today. I really like the effects he manages to get from the guitar. Very cool.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Superb..just mesmerising..listen to this music atleast once everyday..by playing the gramaphone record..
thanks for posting, like this versiom, espacially the drumsound !
now this is what i want to see on got talent or whatever those shows are called
Me too! But those stupid judges wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the ass!
We will never see music like this performed on Americas Got Talent , American Idol or any of those stupid shows because they dont welcome true originality. They want music that is easily pigeonholed and categorized so it can be fed to the masses like fast food
TRUE!
In a way that would not be fair, because these guys are professionals, in those reality shows they are mostly amateurs. Also, like others point out, this is not music for the masses.
I'd like to see it too, but they don't want to expose people to great music OR discover true talent. They want to hunt up more soundalike grist for the music mill. We'll just have to count ourselves among the fortunate inner circle who "get" performers like Eumir Deodato, and this wonderful Italian fusion group (Euro Groove Department).
I remember when the whole world was Deodato crazy. Great times.
Agree, and I am one of them. How can you not get this? Deodato and the EGD just destroy this version. And, that's in a good way. Big man on drums, you rock !!
Matteo Bassi plays the bass ... fantastic
I used to listen to the 70's version of this and it was fantastic!
John Tropea's guitar solo on the studio album cut of this song is, in my opinion, the greatest guitar solo ever recorded.
His version of Moonlight Serenade is my favorite instrumental of the 70's, it's repetitively addictive...
The best version of this incredible version ever.
Great Music! 👋
very very good.......................................................................
Genial !!!
I saw Deodato in the Araneta Coliseum in 1975. He was chugging SM Beer in between numbers

5 people don't get the beauty of this , i pity them so much.

now they're 60. One might don't like, but not dislike :)
You're absolutely right about that, LPLG. I'm not sure how anyone can muster up the nerve to dispirit such great art. A bona fide compliment to what man is capable of -- on many levels.
64 now. Philistines.

Excellent!!
Aún vivo, aún pienso: aún tengo que vivir, pues aún tengo que pensar. Sum, ergo cogito: cogito, ergo sum [soy, luego pienso: pienso, luego soy].
