Matt Turner needs to go back to the MLS. He’s 30 years old and we have a World Cup coming. Bring your wife and son back to the states and settle down and get first team soccer.
Yep, he’s done. Might as well be comfortable
Crazy to think, Turner has had a better career than Steffen. 6 years ago, this conversation would never happen. I think Matt should be proud of his time in europe, but its not enough for us. He needs to be playing first team now. I think his ceiling has been hit now its about maintaining it until the WC if its possible.
@@C0RB1NDALLAS I think he should be proud that he tested himself in Europe. But his time in Europe was bad.
@@Warum.2439 comfortable for him might be in England. he isn't forced to do what's best for the national team. we can play other goalies.
I think there is one thing we can learn from this window and that's it really. But it's important. Who of our players really *wants* to play for this national team. We won't see anything tactically. We won't learn anything at all about our style of play or team "indentity". It'll be about individual *desire* . How do they play... what kind of effort do they put in when there's nothing to play for? We'll definitely see that.
One other thing I'd *like* to see is some of the natural chemistry between certain players, like what we saw between Gio and Haji. That could be useful for Pochettino.
pero Pochettino ya está contratado?
im fully with you there. i specifically think of CCV during the friendly against Colombia when he looked like he couldn't be bothered, whether that was due to it being a friendly or something else i dont know, but i hate seeing that in the players. if you are coming in i want to see that drive to fight for the spot, even if you are an established name.
@@teddyomararayacrooker2240
He's agreed to, but he still has some contractual stuff with Chelsea to deal with.
Besides Davies, who are these people?????
What are you guys gonna do when Canada kicks our butt? You are talking about these two friendlies like the results are a forgone conclusion.
the canada disrespect on this show is wild... Canada's top 2 players are both better than anyone on USA
@@JacobSim-s1l interesante eso es bueno porque hay competencia de lo mismo si al final compiten Canadá y Estados Unidos por ser quien es mejor en el área
@JacobSim-s1l you've lost your mind lol.... Davies is the ONLY player that can get in the USMNT starting lineup. You forget how recently we beat the breaks off of Canada in the Nations League Final. Congratulations are in order for Canada doing well.in Cope America, but let's not get carried away, the USMNT is still the best team in Concacaf, period!!
Why does 3rd division matter that much for a gk? Shot stopping is shot stopping
really the only reasonable take i heard about it was that apparently league 1 doesnt recognize fifa windows since it is 3rd division, so he will be needed there. they play bristol rovers this weekend. he should be called up though whenever the schedule does work out.
When you're accused of being a conspiracy theorist...in public...by someone who is not a practitioner in the space (aside from being a journo/ talking head) the disrespect is genuine.
6:26 no, no we don’t agree lmao. He’s our second best player. You call him idc if he’s not playing. Pulisic was still our best player when he wasn’t playing at Chelsea.
Exactly
The Gio club panic is weird
Gio is CLEARLY our highest ceiling player and arguably our most consistent performer
Same for when Puli wasn't playing for Chelsea nobody discussed dropping him
Dest wasn't playing for Barca/Milan and was one of our best players
People need to stop being stupid talent plays
@@FumarMota 💯
Chuck gave him the death stare after the conspiracy comment.
Reports are he'll sign this week.

I'm not expecting the US to 'win' as a sign of success. It isn't giving too much respect to Canada or New Zealand, it's that the program is unorganized and the players a wild card in key spots. BUT the players there should be highly motivated to show well if they value being a part of the program. Turner is in trouble; been a disaster there & it may be better as another poster said, to return to the US to at least (potentially) get more time.
I don't think Turner going to Crystal Palace was a good move for getting playing time. It is a tough spot for him, because he would have to give up three seasons of pretty good salary to head back to MLS. Steffen gave up 18 months, not three years. Steffen got guaranteed years, but was not able to make all the money back, and neither would Turner. At the same time, it is hard to stay sharp when you don't play regularly as has been clear with both guys in recent years.
i think the move to crystal palace might be personal. he gets to move his family back to london and potentially more money. that might mean he doesnt perform well for the US, but thats okay we have other options in goal we can move towards. he is entitled to do what is best for him.
OMG… the men on this panel are some of the least eloquent on TV
We're NOT France or England we don't have the luxury of leaving quality players off the roster because of club playing time issues ESPECIALLY when they're high ceiling/uber talented
i think we absolutely should be. the guys who are putting in the work and showcasing their ability should be given chances to earn the spots on the national team. the players who aren't getting played, if they want to be a part of the national team, should find transfers that can give them that playing time.
@@rynejones8513 multiple things can be true simultaneously
If a quality player is struggling to find time at a premier club they should try to find their level and make it do what it do
But at the same time USMNT doesn't have the luxury of dropping obvious quality because of club politics
Not playing regularly doesn't mean you're not good enough for a USMNT call up
We NEVER discussed dropping Puli when he was riding Chelsea pine for a REASON same for Dest
@@FumarMota its not club politics. its a matter of whether you are match fit or not. the national team should not be a charity case for any player.
@@rynejones8513 Reyna/Puli aren't "charity cases" tho
The point is it's a case by case basis and not a corporate law approach
If you're trying to decide between the 22nd and 23rd players on the roster by all means use playing time as a metric
But even seriously talking about leaving of Pulisic or Reyna or Dest or any top tier player over being bench players in a Top 5 league is dumb
We're not that good we don't have that luxury
Wish people would understand this more. A good example is the world cup where our "in form" MLS players looked like absolute dog water.
I hate that y'all treat USL like a stepchild. It's not cool tbh. Either support your investment with some sort of show about USL or give up the deal. Nick Markanich is having a baller season for the Battery and I doubt anyone in your building knows who he is. That's pathetic. And what makes the whole thing more appalling is your MLS coverage.
Bruh… Charlie will just not stop about Gio Reyna. Lol… my god. “Injuries have been a problem”. Gio is an automatic call up, HE PERFORMS EVERY SINGLE GAME FOR THE US NATIONAL TEAM. JFC man.
Hmmm... didn't really see that at the Copa America. Saw a guy who barely gets playing time, and you could tell.
LoL! The total arrogance of this panel.
The dud, who is way over the top too excitable (stop & breathe once in a while), with the white stripped shirt, on the left, said that these are not difficult matches.
The chubby guy in the dark suit on the right, said winning both games is a minimum expectation.
Let's be honest here, where do these guys & many other U.S. podcasters, media & fans get these expectations from? This is the U.S. golden generation... on paper... Prove it!
If you look at facts since 2021, it favours Canada. In the only CONCACAF tournament that is fairly played with home & away matches (the U.S. plays about 95% of their matches at home & Canada around 15%, which is ludicrous). In those 2021/2022 qualifiers, the U.S. tied 4th place Costa Rica in points, while Canada beat both the U.S. & Mexico & finished #1.
Remember that the U.S. did not qualify for the 2018 World cup in the CONCACAF qualifiers (nor did Canada), so there is absolutely no reason to be claiming superiority.
We won't include the Gold cup because many of the best CONCACAF players don't participate in that tournament; but it is yet another HUGE homefield advantage for the U.S., that everyone ignores. Can you imagine that happening in any other major professional sport? People would be screaming bloody murder. It would not be acceptable; but unfortunately FIFA & CONCACAF & CONMEBOL for that matter, go after the $ before fairness, or proper ethics etc...
Canada's team was having a very rough 2023, as they were battling Soccer Canada's executives regarding serious union issues & they lost their inspirational coach John Herdman. Still, Canada ended up in the final of the Nations League cup vs the U.S.. They lost to the U.S.; but once again, the U.S. had homefield advantage.
Then we had this Copa tournament, once again the U.S. had homefield advantage & played in the easiest group with Panama, Uruguay, who Canada's B team outplayed but lost to in the semi-final to & Bolivia, who were rated as the worst team in the tournament by most experts. The USA did not advance.
Canada played Argentina twice in this tournament & also had tough veteran teams Chile & Peru, both of whom have had successful histories in the Copa. Canada also beat a good Venezuelan team. Canada ended up in the semi-finals & 4th overall in the tournament, while playing away from home, on U.S. soil.
When you look at that history since 2021, would you not agree that all things considered, that Canada has been the better team? There is no reason to look further back in time. You don't declare Champions in any sport based on old history. If we did, we would still say that Mexico are the Kings of Concacaf, which they clearly are not.
Having said all of that, it will be very interesting to see how the U.S. team will play under their new coach in the future, whenever he is 100% confirmed.
So here we are on September 7th, when Canada will play the U.S. in a friendly... Yes, once again on U.S. soil in Kansas city... Canada , based on the real facts over the past few years, should be the favourites. Mind you, Canada will be playing without 3 main typical starters, due to injuries (Tajon Buchanan, Ismael Kone & Sam Adekugbe); but once again, Canada's B team outplayed Uruguay in the Copa semi-finals.
I'm not saying that Canada will definitely win; but to talk like this will not be a difficult game, or that the U.S.' least expectation is to win both matches, is beyond arrogance & insulting, when facing a team that has outplayed your team over the past 3 years... Oh yeah, even though it is once again on your home field.
Canada agreed to play them away

Dear CBS,
Please get rid of these "pundits" before the World Cup. They are not experts by any means.
Sincerely,
America
The Steffen disrespect is braaaazy.
MLS
@@Warum.2439 naaaaw it's a Steffen thing. They want schulte in
@@Zitolos I don’t like either. I’m anti-Don Garber
There's definitely an anti Steffen agenda at play
We all saw Schulte this summer in Paris he was mid at best
They won't even mention Steffen's name, he's getting the John Brooks treatment
Steffen?????
How can you campaign for Schulte after his performance in a U-23 tournament when Steffen already has USMNT experience and is more than capable
What exactly did Steffen do other than get injured to get excommunicated like this??
Lowkey weird
Charlie Davies continues with the worst takes of every usmnt pundit. Leave Reyna off the team when he is prolly one of the most talented mids we have regardless of playing time. Talks about Schulte when he wasn’t great at the Olympics. Yea he started over Slonina in the Olympics but then again that Olympics coach also didn’t call up Diego Luna or Brian Gutierrez to the squad. Would rather see Steffen and Slonina instead of Horvath n Schulte tbh.
