    I tried Googling where the T.W.A.T. is, but my girlfriend keeps getting pissed...
    Iv always seen its on the western side of the state, it does pass not too far from my deer camp Clam Lake area but there is so much forest / logging roads, power lines, etc everywhere in WI I prefer just exploring them. Im in Northern Oconto and Marinette County so got plenty here also out my back door. Small street legal enduro's are the most fun, my fat old buds on their Harley's are actually getting jealous.

    • @onemilemore541

      The bottom half hugs part of the west side of the state, but then it basically goes up through the middle. There’s certainly are a lot of logging roads and back roads out there. I really like simply exploring them as well. If those Harley guys don’t also ride dual sport, I guess they don’t know what they’re missing. Happy trails 👍🏻

    The XR start issue is likely that the valves need adjustment. They tighten up with time. Eventually no starty

    • @onemilemore541
      @onemilemore541  Год назад

      Absolutely, that can certainly be an issue. I’ve run into it a couple of times over the years. Good advice! Didn’t hear if his valve clearances were tight, but Pete actually just got it put back together after bringing the engine to someone more experienced. They found the piston was .060 overbore with the wrong size rings. Hence the oil consumption. He says it’s starting, and running much better now 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment!

      @onemilemore541  Год назад +2

      Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! Actually, Pete recently got his motor back after sending it to someone more experienced. Found out it had a .050 over-sized piston with possibly standard sized rings which would explain the oil consumption. Sounds like it’s much better now. Huh, I suppose we never really had much of a comparison… That’s a good question. Let’s see… Jon’s bike had issues with the turn signals. Kyle‘s bike had some minor fueling issues. Pete’s bike obviously had issues and Matt’s bike was screwed up from his suspension work plus he had also screwed up some of the electrics. Mine actually functioned perfectly.
      As far as comfort, I suppose that depends on the person. I thought mine was plenty comfortable. Pete obviously had the best suspension.
      We may have to try out a comparison in the next video. Thanks for the idea!

      They are the in between bike from todays modern 250's and 80's style vintage 250's. Dont confuse them with the newer XT 250......The 225 is 6 speed much like the 80,s XT 350. I strongly suggest a test ride if you see one for sale.
      I think it would provide all the fun feel of the vintage bike with a small upgrade without going modern.
      If one day, you guys decide to really go serious and bigger, I strongly suggest a Suzuki DR 650. That bike has not changed since '96 and there is a reason its still made today. A true round the world ADV bike once set up without all todays complicated tech. Just beware the DR is nearly 400 pounds vs the XT 225 which weighs 240.

    Awesome video! Makes me want to do the twat on my tdub! I am curious how fast those tdubs could cruise down the highway being loaded up like that

    • @onemilemore541

      Thanks, I appreciate it! I believe both of the TW‘s were geared up a little bit, but we all cruised right around 55 to 60 miles an hour on the roads. I would imagine they accelerate a little slower with the added luggage but they seemed to hum along just fine. If you’re thinking about riding the trail on your TW, I would definitely say go for it. Even if you didn’t do the whole thing at once 👍🏻

    Great video and editing ! I have created some videos from my rides ( not for youtube ) and I know it took me forever to edit, and they still weren't all that good ;-)

      @onemilemore541  Год назад

      Lol, thanks! It’s funny, for years I’ve been videoing my trips, but don’t think they would make much of an end video to watch other than for my own memories. I’ve found that editing videos has a pretty steep learning curve. But I think a person improves with each one. Keep working at your edits, I doubt you would ever regret it. However, you might regret it if you don’t.

    I had a XL 250r that only would start if the motor was at top dead center. Stroke the kick start till it was at a full stroke. Than give a smooth full kick. And it would start a lot easier. If I didn't start this way. Id kick and kick and kick.

    • @onemilemore541
      @onemilemore541  Год назад

      Yeah, it certainly helps to put it on top dead center of the compression stroke first. Pete just got his motor back from taking it to someone with more experience and found it to have an oversize piston with non-oversized rings… sounds like it starts really well now 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment!

    Looks like we're in the same neck of the woods. Buddy and I just got some 250's and are looking at getting into some trail riding this summer. Got any resources for trails in the area?
    You going to do the Northern Wisconsin Adventure Trail next?

    • @onemilemore541
      @onemilemore541  Год назад

      Resource for trails, that’s a good question. I forget where I got the GPX tracks for my GPS. I believe there’s a few sources if you Google it. Having the GPS was pretty vital to follow the TWAT. It is also the first proper trail system I’ve ridden on a bike. From what I found in the past, trails can be tricky as different ones are open at different times of the year. I really like exploring back roads/dirt roads and have been surprised how many there are not far from home. The beauty of a dual sport bike 👍🏻 I’ve recently found a couple of Wisconsin Facebook groups that may be a good resource. Honestly, I haven’t looked closely into it yet… Can’t seem to get the link to work, but the groups I found are: “Wisconsin ADV Riders“ and “Wisconsin Dual Sport Riders Group“. Hope this helps and happy trails!
      As for the Northern Wisconsin Adventure Trail, I guess great minds think alike… 😉 There should be some videos before that, though
