  • Science and Inuit knowledge are helping us better understand glacial melt and accumulation in the most northern part of the country. We can see the glaciers are receding, but understanding the rate and how it’s occurring is key to supporting local ecosystems and the communities that rely on them.
Understanding the conditions of the surrounding ice which Inuit communities rely on for transportation and how that ice is changing is also important. Inuit led organizations like SmartIce monitor the conditions of the ice which provides important information for local communities and Parks Canada staff before they travel on the ice.
It can feel like the climate is changing faster than we can react. But there are people doing good work. There is a Climate Crew. Watch Parks Canada’s Climate Crew, at Sirmilik National Park, work with nature to reduce the effects of climate change, and to help us adapt.
