I could see this being really good for those that only need 1 amp for everything. From a Worship Guitarists POV, you don't really need a pedalboard with this. Worth the money personally
Do you not have a sound desk and PA system, the church I go to does, and we’re not a ‘mega’ church….. thus all instruments including my bass gets plugged in thru DI boxes to the sound system
Dagan! some fantastic playing to demonstrate the versatility, power and clarity of this scorching little beast. Just pulled the trigger on this little weapon of an amp, used to own the original Katana 100w which i gigged and received regular compliments on how good my tone was! cant wait to rejoin the Katana family in the "Airborne" division.
Hey Handsome! Thanks for another great video. I'm 100% definitely asking Santa for a Katana Air EX upgrade from my version 1. The fact that it does bass now is just prefect. I think I can pair one of these with a Street Cube for some vocals and we can do a solo gig no problem!
I preordered the original Katana Air and have beat it mercilessly and it somehow keeps coming back for more; I love that little beast way more than I should. Looks like it's time to update.

That’s funny I’m using my Boss WAZA air headphones to watch this video and playing guitar same time lol. Man I really want to get one of these ex amps tho. I love the wireless
Dagon my man, you look good with that SG. Can you explain what options do mortals like us have if we want to use a looper/ looping options with this piece? Thanks mate
Would it not be far superior with a dedicated lithium battery , rather than AA batteries which wont last long and considering how many it requires its going to cost a fair whack to indeed be truly wireless .
Holy Wow! It's a mini me of my Boss 2X12! That one is heavy! Very cool. I'm a sucker for precision size instruments. I still have my old, like new Peavy Rage, and a little 15amp Gorilla to restore.
I’ve grown to become a fan of the full size Katanas (I’ve swapped the speaker out on my 100w Mk2, and have the Boss Waza speaker in, which sounds great) However I can’t really see what this offers over the Yamaha THR Mk2, and they’ve been around for about 3 years now
I'll check that out, thanks. They don't hang about, do they, The Captain and the Andertons team? What I meant though really when I said I can't see what this offers over the Yamaha THR is that the Boss doesn't seem to offer any different functionality - for example if it had a looper, I'd grab one at the earliest opportunity, but as it doesn't have one (which is a shame, as the Boss Dual Cube does, but looks like a child's toy) then it's pretty much the same as the THR from what I can see; granted the sound will be different, and maybe better with the Boss, but in my experience the sound quality is a pretty subjective thing with these desktop style amps @@bassplyr13
If I hadn't bought my Spark 40 already, I would seriously consider this amp but, the price would certainly be an issue. As well as the fact that BOSS hasn't yet realized that making bulky wireless transmitters that don't fold up against the body of your guitar/bass is not "user friendly". I know I'd bump into something or knock it and "goodbye transmitter, have to buy a new one at full price again". The more flush it is against the instrument body, the less chance of it getting damaged. I use my Swiff Audio WS-50 Blackwings with my Spark and love them. Good signal, great battery life, no audible latency and both transmitter and receiver have thin, foldable bodies that sit neatly and flush to my guitar/basses, amp or I can just attach them to my guitar strap. Still, this looks pretty cool. Just need to lower the price a bit to mix with the competition out there (which is pretty strong at this point).
I did the same but got a set of wireless Lekato off Amazon for $38 two years ago and wireless works great! I use with my Pod Go, pedals and Spark. I did just get some Boss Waza Are headphones. The hype is true. Like having an amp on your head! Headphones use the same app as the boss amp. Has MIDI and Audio Bluetooth for backing tracks.
i love boss, i have a tonne of their stuff, sold off a bunch of amps after getting my katana and have really only used my katana head or gt1000 core for the last 5 years, but man boss missed the mark on this - too pricey for a desktop amp - no ability to use the desktop tone studio software (since this is classed as a desktop amp, it makes sense to use desktop software doesnt it) - no speaker out, it would have made a killer all in one amp - based on the mk1 amps rather then the mk2 amps since the unit doesnt have the alterations and you cant link as many effects at once as the mk series i really wanted to buy one of these when i saw it but i donno
It's a terrific amp it's Boss I own the tiny weeny Boss Katana Mini blows my mind how they can get it to sound so brilliantly the quality of the new amp would not surprise price wise it's steep; it sounds great, I'm thinking of heading down to PMT might bring my guitar down plug it in and give a go ,
Silly money for what it is especially with the competition out there at the moment , THR , Spark , NUX etc , sadly no shootout could work fairly as the size of the cab / speakers will make a big difference ... no idea why you need wireless with small practice amp though 🤷♂️
I have a katana for when I need an amp and a spark for when I want to practice on the go, both together cost less than this and could afford a £200 guitar aswell
Love seeing "sucker" played on a triple humbucker SG! lol But seriously, with these home/practice style modelling amps being defined by a processor and on board multi fx, a built in looper should be standard, even if it means an optional footswitch like the mustang gt-40. These days it just seems like an oversight/missed opportunity, especially when entry level Nux have done it with their version!
I've got the Katana 100 MKII...the small battery powered mini Katana...so I'm not a Boss hater. But the PG Spark sounds as good or better...for half the price. For truly professional, studio quality "tones"...d/l the ones done by "Positive Grid"...they're available in the cloud through the app...and they're searchable.
Alright everybody who has the original AIR wants to know something. Is this new EX pretty much just as loud as the older brother or is it TRULY louder? With only an extra 5 watts is it such a difference as to justify that heavy of a price. My current AIR has no real bottom end. We all know what we love and hate about the older model, is this just a more expensive love/hate relationship? Because if I want to just throw money away for no reason I'll just stay married.
This is for a professional who just want a practice amp that he/she can grab-and-go, or a very wealthy guitar enthusiast who has so much money to buy a desk top amp that he/she can play around.
Add to that without the extra power an enthusiast Metal drummer will wipe you out if you wish to play in a band context. Then finally if you do need a wireless 35 pounds buys you an M-VAVE WP-5G 5.8 KHz which uses the Military/Emergency spec that unlike the Boss will not drop out or send loud noises thru your rig from consumer spec equipment like cell phones destroying your signal. So it is a cheaper package with Pro applications for less money.
@Paul_Lenard_Ewing to be fair you get the wireless transmitter with the air, if I need something portable i have a fender mustang or spark go, my katana is in the living room and has headphones 90% of the time
@@Paul_Lenard_EwingI think this is a pretty underwhelming product for the price, but it doesn't need to keep up with a metal drummer as it was never intended for that use. It is a portable desktop amp. Not every amp needs to produce volumes loud enough to compete with drummers, because there are others uses for amps also.
@@cirisirpula152 obviously this is for studio use instead of in a band, it’s kinda difficult to put it on any market position. It’s just awkward as there’s 50EX for portable amp lol

I had no idea Russell Brand was such a good guitarist! Thanks for the review, it's certainly an interesting amp.
Really like this amp, very impressive.
Wonder if this amp will beat my Yamaha thr 10
Would this be compatible with the Katana Air and waza air Airstep controller?
Can lineout be used to plug this unit into a cabinet?
Shame they did not add drums, looper or update the USB to “C” type.. Great sound though..🇦🇺👍
Totally agree...
Is it better than the first generatiom of Katana air?
Definitely it is
