- Our first tie & test video where we tie a squirrel tail hair jig, then go catch crappie on it that day in the River bottoms of North Louisiana. wow, what a great River jig!!!

I too have been typing very similar squirrel tail jigs for years except I add a short hair beard on a 1/64-1/32 oz jig head for panfish. Under a small float, the tail and red thread combo works great and are nearly free when you scrounge road kill tails or pop a couple in the yard. Lol. Happy fishing my friend.

I've had good luck with a watermelon cc color with red flake, but have not tried a full red tail. Mine had a green tail with red flash. At times it's good

I made some last spring, but never could really get them going anywhere we fished. We caught a few really big ones on them though in late spring. However, winter time on the Ouachita river and it's tributaries, it was like you flipped a switch. There's been days when it's the only jig in the boat we can catch on. It's a great jig to have in the boat!!!
Now, that's a nice mess of fish. I have to give that jig some work as soon as I come across a squirrel fox tail. I appreciate your craft, thanks 🎣
They do sell Squirrel tails as well for around $5. I've found that's not a bad option as they die it orange. It's a little lighter, maybe brighter than most natural tails I've used. Both catch, but the one I've bought and used definitely caught as Good!! A lot of the reason Squirrel be tail is good is because of the hairs bouncy. The way the jig sits in water is more natural

I have been tying about 6 years and never used fox squirrel tail but I’m thinking I’m gonna go pop a few in the morning and see what I can come up with
They look good and catch at times. I know the fish in the video were smaller, but I've caught 2 lbers on em. We just didn't find any bigger fish that afternoon. Thanks for watching, commenting, and Good luck!!!
Pretty cool to see you make your own jigs and put them to use. While you were tying the jig and zoomed in, the camera kept wanting to focus on that big beautiful beard. Lol. Maybe in the next video like this, trim you a plug of that grizzly bear hair your growing and tie it on a hook. 😂. It’s even starting to get its own built in grey flash. I DARE YOU!!!

Simply curious why build the thread up instead of just using a red Chanelle? Another question do y'all only fry crappie or do y'all have any other ways to cook it?
I really don't build the thread up that much. Hair slips worse than feathers, so basically I'm just putting on a good layer of thread to strengthen that hold on the hair. You can make some with squirrel tail and chenilles as well that be will catch. That being said, hair jigs are quick, easy, and deadly. They have to a bit more action than a chenille jig as well. I got more videos planned explaining some of that, but your comments help me get ideas for videos. Feel welcome to request videos also, cause we're always looking for what y'all want to see. We cook Crappie quite a few different ways, because we eat them a lot. There is one video on grilled crappie already if you didn't see it. We will add Fish Stew, how we fry, bake, grill them on the half shell over this year!!!

They're even good microwaved, melt a table spoon of butter,mix in a generous amount of Cajun seasoning. Roll the fillets in the seasoned butter and spread them out on the plate, pop in for 3 minutes
I wish I had about 20 of them fileted and fried with a bottle of heinze ketchup and I was here by myself lol

Oh man I'm sorry, lol. I fished 40 years without a lives ope, and at times I still don't use it. We have several non- livescope videos especially the Kayak ones that we catch just as many perch in. While we do utilize our equipment and learn from it, we will do more non-scope videos in the future as well

@chriscorbin7450 none taken, I get it. We crossed that path when deciding to get a scope. What I can say about it is I've learned more in 3 years fishing it about Perch behavior and fish behavior in general, that even without it now I'm a better fisherman. I also am able to develope and study jig color patterns and have discovered and developed many of my own colors, some of which are still secret, that I never would have found. I'm sure over time as we search for content that I'll be releasing some of these colors as well. There are colors that are not so common or variations that will catch over common jigs we see in stores every day. Over the next years, our channel will be opening up more on when, why, how, with or without scope. It's been on my mind already before you even commented. You guys give us ideas for new content, so we're always paying attention. Thanks for the feedback
