The Minnesota Vikings released receiver Adam Thielen today, concluding his hometown tenure for the kid who grew up a Vikings fan and captured the hearts of his fellow Minnesotans.
Born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and then playing at Minnesota State Mankato, Thielen signed with the Vikings in 2013 after serving as a tryout player at rookie minicamp. By the end of the 2022 season, he had more career catches (534) than any player in team history other than Cris Carter and Randy Moss.
"To go from a kid growing up in Detroit Lakes to playing for the Minnesota Vikings has been a journey beyond what I could have dreamed of," Thielen said in an Instagram post. "I want to thank everyone within the Vikings organization -- coaches, teammates, the Wilf family and fans -- for all the love and support I have received over the years. I poured everything I had into these last 10+ years in presenting and playing for this team and state. My family and I will always cherish them memories we created on and off the field. Minnesota is -- and will always be -- home to us."

Thielen told ESPN last month that he hoped to retire as a Viking, which is now obviously a lie. I'll get over it.
Thielen was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, had 70 catches for 716 yards and six touchdowns last season. He had 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns in his Vikings career.

As a lifelong Viking fan, he was the most determined Wide receiver we Ever had! Moss, both Carters had pure talent.. 19 needs to be in the ring of honor! Thank you Mr.Thielen!

Such an inspiration. A rare monk-style receiver. Good knowledge and awareness. What made him excel was his understanding of how to play the game as a receiver. Looking back at this footage he had underrated athleticism.
They disrespect him by thinking they can just play him safe, and catch him.

He’s a WR on his way out. He’s not going to “carry” a team. Maybe a role player of sorts. His productivity has declined the past few years and he wasn’t worth the cap hit anymore. Hence the release.
I know he's a wide receiver he could be a good role model for the younger receivers

Don’t worry we definitely mark him as a all time Vikings favorite. He’s had a long career with us and we’ve appreciated all of it he’s just getting closer to retirement we aren’t trying to leave him on a bad note but the team has to make there own moves especially with our salary cap issue.

All this kid ever did was make catches. He has hands like fly paper. I hope he gets a chance to play on a contending team for a few more years as I believe he has a few good years left in him.
Damn this sucks, but I understand the business side of the NFL, he can still retire someday as a Viking but I wish him the best of luck with whatever team he lands with.

Adam Thelin is the man probably my favorite Viking receiver of all time but I can't forget the rest of them either because they have had quite a few like, Cris Carter Randy Moss Sammy Witte Amad Rashad ect....... man I hate to see him go

It had to happen sometime. It is never easy to cut someone. However, if he hasn’t totally lost his ability, they guy catches his share of touchdowns. He knows how to get open in the red zone. Who couldn’t use this?

He'll be taking a substantial pay cut to play somewhere else. Why not take a pay cut and stay? I'll never understand why these players towards the end of their careers won't be sensible about their market value and face reality.
