Wish I read this first before I resorted to debug mode on hero mode. Before debug I resorted to the hover board glitch. Almost skipped to the last section first try after practicing. Didn’t get it consistently after then. Maybe I’ll replay the level once I finish the game.
What a coincidence! I played this mission today actually and then your video got reccomended to me, I actually did beat this first try, but It was damn hard as well. I finished with 1 bar of health left from the turret, I'm serious.
The difficulty gap can be explained with time. Most people saying it wasn't as hard as they remember are exactly right, they were kids when they played this. This game came out in 2003, a time when FFX, NfS, and Ratchet and Clank games were at their prime. Not a lot of shooters existed unless it was something like SOCOM, so this aim and shoot concept with a narrow margin of error and small health pool was daunting for a kid. Now, these kids are grown up and have played dozens of CoD, Overwatch, and Apex-like games, so returning to a dark but cartoonish game like this feels much more simple.
i think the hardest part is that: 1) when you hit them, they bounce away, making you to redirect your aim and get potentially get hit by a new wave of enemies 2) the sheer amount of enemies you have to take out. it just takes a while and if you die near the end, you have to do it all over again. 3) the reverse controls. this single mission messed me up so bad that i can't play turret sections with normal controls anymore (like in ratchet and clank a crack in time and all for one). but overall it wasn't that hard to beat, i prolly beat it in my third. i def struggled more with some other missions
BRO this mission as a kid made me stop playing jak 2 for a long time. I LITERALLY FINISH JAK 3 BEFORE THIS ONE BECAUSE OF THIS MISSION!!!!!!! Eventually i beat the game
If you play it on PS4 you can use the jet-board glitch to "fly" that part, and the game goes on like if you actually beat that part of the mission. Don't know if it works the same on PS5, but when you're on Hero Mode, it helps you a lot.
I agree with you about the difficulty of this game. I do think it's pretty challenging, but it's one of the games I beat more than once closer to when it came out. Most of the games I own, I probably will never finish. But for some reason, I made sure to finish Jak II... (also, it's the best game in the series ;P)
I disagree. The hardest mission was getting that piece of the seal out of the slums. That is, unless you dark bomb the sentry in the water, but that's technically a cheat. So that mission is easily the hardest if you play the game as intended.
Nah, that mission isn't too bad if you just jetboard through the water slums. The path is pretty easy to get down and you can bypass pretty much all combat as you'll move faster than the drop ships can deploy.
I didn't see this in the comments. It is one ship. You beat the one side the first time then the next side the second time. It's flying in either direction exposing a different side each time. When you destroy the last side it finally blows to pieces.

If there were even 10 fewer, 30 Krimson Guards, it would be much more tolerable even on hero mode. Also I think they spawn on a timer so you theoretically could have all 40 of them flying around at once but I could be wrong. Also yes you do need to be giant dark jak for the trick at the start to work I believe. The range of Dark Blast while in GDJ form in fucking insane. You can do it from literally any location on the platform and it will work, it will even kill the metal heads on the lower left platform.

I just remember struggling with 2 particular missions. Destroying the bombs on some towers with the hoverboard(yes not hard but takes a few tries when you're like 9) and the glowy thing extraction that has the glitch to groundpunch the water with dark jak. Most of the game I did melle only where I could do it without glitches
This mission is so hard on Hero mode that right after I get through it (which takes me hours) I create a new save after coming off the platform so I NEVER have to do it again. Did it for PS2 & PS3, now I'm replaying on PS5.
Yeah when it pops back up the second time you can see the smoke on the other side and is going the other direction I will agree it can be a hard level but I realize if you aim at one of the jets they will spin out and explode but I love this game me and my siblings would always fight over to play this game 🎮
i managed to beat this on hero mode a while back, it requires your entire focus and you need to be mindful of where you bounce the guards to when you shoot them
I know a trick to the first ones. Before you get in the cannon turn into Dark Jak, go to the edge of the platform to the right of it a little way from the fence, and use Dark Blast. That should get rid of the first ones. Doesn’t always work but most often it does.

Needless to say now, as a 22 year old, these old games are unrelenting. The clunky spongy controls combined with unforgiving checkpoints make me wonder how my brother did any of this when he was a kid. Guess it's just a skill issue on my part lol
Yup, this one was harder than water slums for me. The combination of janky movement controls, no aim-assist, and guards swarming you from every angle made me want to absolutely smash my controller. At least with water slums you can just hoverboard your way out before the guards have a chance to drop onto the path.
1:00. Umm…no. It’s one ship. You damage the port side of it in the first wave and it retreats, then in the second wave you fight it on its starboard side and that finally destroys it. But yeah, this section isn’t that hard on its own but on Hero Mode it becomes fucking ridiculous. The enemy waves spawn in much more quickly as the section progresses and by the end you’ll more than likely be dealing with three waves coming in one after another and they’ll overwhelm you VERY quickly. It wouldn’t surprise me if this one mission is what got ND to add aim assist in Jak 3. Btw, Dark Jak cheat only works on the very first set of enemies…the 40 hover guards aren’t affected because they haven’t spawned in yet. As for doing that section on Hero Mode, the best strategy is to hit the enemies as much as possible to stun them (it’ll interrupt their firing animation for at least a couple seconds), and to begin firing at the waves as they spawn in and kill as many of them as possible before they’re even in range to shoot. Even then it’s just pure skill and luck needed to win. Save up as much health on the turret as possible leading up to the 40 guards too.
As someone who beat the game 4x. This mission alone. Would make me walk away for a week at a time. Multiple times. Never beat Hero mode because of this.

Concuerdo, esta misión hizo que dejase el juego durante 3 o 4 meses y aún así sigo adorando el juego
As someone who beat the game 4x.
This mission alone.
Would make me walk away for a week at a time. Multiple times.
Never beat Hero mode because of this.
Screw that mission! God am impossible.
i remember as a kid this mission made me give up on the game
when i came back to play it again a couple years ago i did it first try (probably just luck :P)
I haven't finished the game thanks to this mission
Oh my god when I was a kid I was completely stuck on this mission to the point that I was close to quit the game for good
Good to know other people think it's fkin bullshit
I did this mission on Hero mode and it is hard as it sounds, I beated once and I never attempted again
I hate this mission. Tbh its just that first gate once i'm past that i'm fine but i've never been able to do it myself. I got to this misson on Hero Mode like 10 years ago and never got past it and just gave up. Sometimes it takes one hit to take them down and sometimes they take about 10 it's really frustrating, and sometimes i hit them dead on and the game acts like i missed them...so i'd say its more annoying than hard.
i remember doing this on hero mode, i raged quitted after the 15th death or something. I was frustrated that the invincibility cheat didn't apply to that section
I deleted the game on this level cus fuck this level
I auto assumed it was one of the shitty time trail ones as they frustrated me most, game I definitely tough but one I found worth it
ive been replaying through the jak series and I haven't gotten so mad at a game in a while. All of the ones mentions made me rage a bit, but the worst was Onens game.... its mainly because I am playing on an external HD for my ps4 and it has a bit of lag for each one of the presses....i just sneaked by
Never had this issue on the mission. It's easy af
Hardest mission for me was Errol's race or the whack a mole game. Fuck those missions!
