This figure has started to become my new favorite Seeker deluxe. So much that awhile back I bought a second one to repaint into Shattered Glass Thundercracker.
With this, Hotshot, and the new Leader Class Armada Megatron, I hope to see an updated figure of Armada Optimus and Jetfire to come out of the woodwork.
Armada Optimus always reminded me of powermaster Optimus. Now they came out with combiner wars leader class armada megatron and we are getting a leader class combiner wars Powermaster optibotumus to match with it,
The curve you describe in the profile looks heavily inspired by the Su-27 "Flanker", a Russian Cold-War counterpoint to the F-15. Really fitting for a Starscream design, actually.
I see 2 problems with the wing sword from the original armada toy 1. The hinges are flimsy and i'd be worried about breaking any of them. 2. If you dont keep good management of said wing piece it could get lost and the vehicle is almost useless because of the missing wing.
@Jett Lucas Hayes While I understand why and where the comparisons and sayings of Armada Starscream being just a knock off version of Dinobot, I think that it's outright disrespectful and downplaying both characters and who they were. Dinobot was a proud warrior with a soft side and honor code, plain and simple. Starscream while also being a warrior, was the planned next in line for second in command ( or even supreme leader ) protege who was unlucky to have an abusive authority figure in his life. The difference between the two is their age, identity, the world they were born and live in and those who were in their lives. While I personally prefer Dinobot over Starscream, I still think and bet that Screamer would win a 1v1 between the two.
It's all of the articulation that the original could have had but didn't have the budget or engineering for! The colors being not exact is acceptable for the tighter budget new deluxes have, and doesn't look terrible even without all the black on the torso. If I can find this locally...
i wish they would repaint this figure in his blue colors. though the red and black and grey is a nice colour scheme i do like the blue colours especially the red face on a blur body it stands out nice.
i got the re release of this toy that made the legs white with black on the front made parts of the shoulders and the fore arms white with red on the fore arms made the feet red and the heals white as well as parts of the cannons and inverted the colors of the leg fins and changed the cockpit color deep green instead of yellow and added more white on the wings
One of my swords finally broke, but it broke at the hole that pegs into the wings, which sent a crack all the way through it from handle to hinge, so that sword's done for.

My figure's nosecone pegs into the waist just fine... kind of. You kind of have to get it all lined up just right and kind of just force it into place, but it can be done.

I was watching this review and suddenly remembered that I haven't secured my own stock of the Takara version of this so I went to Hobbysearch to preorder one..... only to get stamped with "Reservation Closed" right after I put one into my cart and hitting the Order Confirmation button.
The swords actually wouldn't bother me that much if they were actually colored correctly rather than being translucent plastic. I actually like that he has two of them now and that holding the swords doesn't require loosing wings. I just don't like how they're molded in entirely translucent plastic.
Brilliant review of a somewhat unexpected remake (at least to me). Also, would love to hear your opinions on anything Gaim related, be it the toys (AC/Role Play) or the series.
Wait, I have the original toy. It wasn't badly engineered--it has really good heel spurs to keep him verryyyy stable, the sword's a nice accessory, even though it is too bulky, and the articulation isn't bad either, especially for Armada. Honestly I can't think of much wrong with the original, aside from the jet mode, it did kinda look like a messy box with wings. Buuut I am SO glad this figure exists... though I would've preferred it if they'd updated the wing-sword gimmick, that was so cool on the show!
I mean, I used to hate the sword redesign back when I was like 12... But grow up everyone.. I may not own this one, but I will definetly get it someday. This bastard looks solid as heccc. Besides.. He could probably hold the Combiner Wars Shockwave. I need more figures that can do that.
In fairness, I'm not entirely certain how they could've engineered the missile launchers much smaller without making the missiles incredibly small. Then again, I'm not a toy designer yet, so I wouldn't know.
Now we just need the other two only good armada characters Blurr, and SIDEWAYS. I mean seriously we need a toy that represents his best form. In cybertron he was Starscream's bitch and ROTF he died 2 minutes into the movie.But In armada he had a character that was really cool and mysterious that played a big role to the larger scheme of things. Then he got a toy that looked ridiculous.
I want this guy, but I don't know about the head, it's older so I'd have to get it on eBay for a good price, and half of it's translucent, so I'm afraid of buying him only for his head to break in half one day.
The crotch assembly not pegging in to the bottom of the nosecone, despite it seemingly having been designed to do just that, rather bugs me. But, meh..at least he still holds together well.

Heck, if the Transformers universe was the real universe we lived in, it'd be considered a taboo, like beastiality. Why the hell do people ship this?

Just so you know, the cannon mechanism does tab into place for jet mode, and reduces the rattle factor.

Left the sword in his hand too long on a shelf, it got stuck and I had to use plyers to get it out braking the sword in the process :(
When that happens either use a hair dryer or bowling water to heat up the plastic to make it easier
