  • I am very saddened by the recent exchanges between the great Loopop and the morally bankrupt Behringer company. Because of this, I can no longer live with the Model D, and this video explains is all.

Behringer are a horrible company ethically, but there is some crap that gets spread about their products that isn't true, and by contributing to this I think you are doing yourself a disservice, also ethically. Two wrongs don't make a right. Their products are not horrible, junky, plasticky, or poorly made. The only plastic synths they've put out were clones of synths that were originally plastic (SH101, TB303., 808 etc). Their product repair/return rate is no worse than any other synth manufacturer. You've said yourself that the Model D is the only Behringer product you've owned, and you actually liked it, so all the rest is hyperbole because you are pissed at them. You state that the Model D is a one trick pony like it is some universal truth, when it is actually a faithful reproduction of one of the most wideley used and beloved synthesisers of all time, I get your disdain for Uli and Co, but this diatribe simply drags down your own integrity. That's going into Dark side of the Force territory (Deatheater? dunno, don't do HP. I Like your Cats on Synthesisers in Space shirt.....

Im a formerly homeless person that beat some odds and actually got to work at a synth factory, they weren’t great and tried breaking a bunch of labor laws so it didn’t last long, they paid for their mistakes. I’ve got a couple behringers in my studio, some i really like, their 303s a total pos tho, the buttons are super inconsistent and it’s barely comparable to my tb-3 in terms of utility functions and midi options. Im ranting, you should give it to some kid in their late teens/early 20’s who’s trying to learn, i definitely don’t want it. Itd also be fun to attach leads from a power supply to the panel, max out the amperage and watch it melt, then send it to their service center and tell them you’re still learning about control voltages 😆⚡️

Ashun Sound Machines (ASM), the makers of the Hydrasynth, are a great example of what synth companies and manufacturers should be. This is from the FAQ:
"ASM does not discriminate against any race, religion, sexual orientation or political leaning. The factory who makes our products pays fair wages, with fair hours, operates in a green manner and exceeds regulations for clean working environments and values their employees' health and well being.
The factory is certified for ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS1800 and SA8000."

IDK - buy a $300 Model D or spend your life savings $10,000,000 on the OG? I purchased a refurbished Prophet 600 for $1,800 two years ago and love it, and can now buy a desktop clone NEW for $400. I do understand why people are angry at their business tactics and so everyone has a "choice" to ignore the noise or not. I choose to ignore it and now have that smooth Model D sound at my fingertips (paid $200 used). The world is not a fair place that's for sure so make the best of it and just try to enjoy yourself as life is too damn short...!!

Have you ever tried to recreate some of those Model D sounds on your Trigon 6? I've played a Trigon 6 recently and I was really surprised how similar it can sound to a Minimoog if tweaked right. It definitely has some lowend.

I don't have anything from Behringer. But I only have two synths, and my Pro 3 SE, can do more than the model D. You might increase views if you take a hammer to it. lol I just don't have enough stuff to do something like that myself. But I'm covered as far as what that synth can do. Not sure about the low end. I'm rather satisfied with my Pro 3 low end, even though I know it's not the same as Moog's. Next time I can afford it, I want a polysynth, Take 5 looks sweet to me. I have a MODX+, so getting by, but I really prefer subtractive synthesis. MODX+ makes FM easier, but I really enjoy designing the sound from the base VCO's forward. I hope it goes to someone who doesn't have an analog monosynth, it would be a great device to learn from.

Whether Loopop wanted units gratis or not, there was no reason for Behringer to throw shade, very unprofessional...but then this is the same company that made a spoof product to mock a Behringer critic, the Kirn Corksniffer. Behringer is frustrating bc their original products like Deepmind are very well designed, they often listen to customers & could be a great company. But the mudslinging & copying of in-production IP from others ruins it.

I love this. Whatever you´re reasons are and however i personally think that you are right or wrong doesn´t matter. Just the fact that you say something about something, in this day of age. You dont have anything to win or gain from this moneywise. It´s just all about honour, respect, values.
I also love to see how loud this has become. Monstersize companies have nasty practices all around. The clothes we wear, our shoes, our furniture, etc. Our food. If we would know more about where our stuff actually came from, maybe we would care more? I dont know.
Capitalism really falls down on itself when consumers dont use their power to choose what they support. It gets nasty really fast. And now. When logistics and internet have made the earth a smaller place where companies can get land and workers where they can pay them nothing and sell their products in the richest countries of the world...
Sure. It´s great for us. Scandinavians and Americans. We were dealth the Royal Straight Flush on the hand. I haven´t done anything to deserve it though. My ancesters? The vikings? Maybe, maybe not.

I love this. Thanks for posting! I sold my first synth - a Crave - a couple months ago because I just had enough of Behringer before this even happened. I want nothing to do with them. When people say we are "elitist" or "oppose affordable products", which is bs, I always point them to Korg, who offers VERY affordable products and doesn't act like Behringer and I am happy to support them and most of us are. Some people just don't like it when you express any principles because it makes them uncomfortable for not being more principled, and it's easier to insult someone than change. That said, I don't judge anyone else for using their gear. But it's okay for those of us opting out to say why and encourage others to do the same. Enough is enough. The Uli's and Elon's of the world need to learn.

Not sure if this video is click bait or authentic reactionary hyperbole.
It’s a bit hypocritical to buy a clone, enjoy it and the Gaul to call them out for cloning. The video is also a little to theatrical to be taken seriously if that is what is intended.
If you purchase something you think is immoral because it saves you money, how can you take a moral high ground… shouldn’t you have just saved up for an actual moog?
Anyways, if you want to give it away there are many many out there that would jump at the chance to own that beauty, even if their favourite RUclipsr will no longer have the option of free gear if they don’t contribute to product testing.
At the end of the day it is a tool, there to be used. For many of us that tool is perfect, the brand name doesn’t matter.

I could give a very true story about my continuing journey with leukaemia, and ongoing mental health problems... But I don't *need* the synth, as I have a couple of different synths. But what I can say is that there will be someone who does, because there have been countless days where I haven't wanted there to be a tomorrow, and simply putting on the headphones and making music, turning those knobs, pushing those buttons and hearing what I'm making has taken the focus of my mind and been a very immediate distraction from life. Maybe one day your synth will be able to give someone a tomorrow, because I can truly attest that music is a therapy

Against my better judgement am i working on a musical project where i am using Behringer gear for oldschool electro and at the same time making a space opera influenced satire of Behringer and their position in the synth market. My goal is to make it visible that it is posible to make hardware retro music with cheap contemporary alternatives and also reflect on the topic of cloning through the form of science fiction.
Another Boog wouldn’t hurt for that but I would gladly see that it rather goes to someone who would need one to get started with music at all. 😊

Electronics just aren't that expensive to produce. There has to be some middle ground, for synth makers these days, because there is DEFINITELY A LOT OF OVERCHARGING FOR PRODUCTS BY FAMOUS COMPANIES.
You definitely seem very jaded, and absolutely elitist. Not everyone can afford to spend 10 grand+ on a keyboard.
For the record, I've never had a Behringer synth. I have had three of their mixers, and they have all been well built, and work well. I have been messing with synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, effects, since 1985.

If you are trying to buy a real Model D, not a re-issue, you'll have to shell out a tidy fortune for one that's not abused by stage use. 10k+++ for any originals, and 5k++ for a re-issue. It's absurd. I just recently bought a 2017 Ford Fiesta SE with less than 80k on the clock, for about 5k. Which makes more sense, as a lifestyle purchase? The car, which has all the room I need to haul my music rig, and gets spectacular gas milage, while having fun driving, or a synth which can be had for a tiny fraction of the original, or re-issue.... @@allkeyspro6606
