  • Hey this is Emily at Oz Inflatable Kayaks and in this short video,
    we're going to have a look at the three different backbone / floor options we have for the Advanced Elements range of kayaks.
    The Drop-Stitch Floor is a performance enhancer and tough as nails.
    It's great for people in the heavier weight ranges who want to go faster and straighter.
    It is super tough for dogs and fishing.
    The Backbone is also a performance enhancer. It's a lot cheaper than the drop-stitch floor, but it has to be installed under the soft floor when you want to go paddling, and then removed when you are finished, so it's a bit less convenient than the drop-stitch floor, which is simply placed into the kayak instead of the soft floor.
    Note that the Backbone is NOT compatible with the drop-stitch floor. It's one or the other, folks.
    The Dura-floor is a protective mat, it is not a performance enhancer. It is ideal if you want to do some fishing or take a dog and you are fairly lightweight, and therefore don't need the drop-stitch floor. The Dura-floor is compatible with the Backbone.
    If you need any help deciding between the Backbones and floors from Advanced Elements, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
    Cheers, Emily

    Just want to let you know that this is a superb video. Expertly informational AND delivered with warmth and humor.
    Nice to encounter such a genuine, helpful presence. Just bought a used Advanced Elements tandem here in the states and this information is perfect for what we need to know. "Good on ya" and thanks very much.

    You might want to do a video on when the BackBone should *not* be installed. With my BackBone AE came a list of guidelines about when it should *not* be used. They include whitewater, where the added tracking can limit the ability to "pivot and maneuver quickly." The rigidity also means that rough surf and shallow water with sharp objects can result in damage to the hull. Best not to use it then.

    Thanks for the video Emily. Would you think the you can do stand-up paddling with the drop-stitch floor installed? I am wondering if I can convert the kayak into a tandem SUP :)

      Hi there! It depends on what kayak you have. A perfect kayak for stand-up paddling is the Airvolution (comes in a solo or tandem option). This whole kayak is made of full drop-stitch material which is the same as a SUP and works like a 2 in 1 for kayaking and stand-up paddling. If there is a certain kayak you had in mind however; please let me know :) Thanks, Jessica

    Stupid question but..can you put a backbone under a drop stitch floor? Or would it serve absolutely zero purpose to do so?

    • @OzinflatablekayaksAu

      Hi Matt, the Backbone and the drop-stitch floor are not compatible, it's one or the other. Not a stupid question, I get it regularly! 😉 Cheers, Emily.

      How about the backbone under the soft floor and the Durafloor over it?

    • @OzinflatablekayaksAu
      @OzinflatablekayaksAu  4 года назад

      @@mathewtva Yes, that would work well. The Backbone is designed to go under the soft floor, and the dura-floor is designed to go over the soft floor - all three together are compatible and a good combination. Cheers, Emily.

    Hi, I saw a video where the tester explains that this kayak does not offer enough space for the legs of persons measuring over 1.80m. Do you agree and what would be the appropriate kayak for taller persons ? Thx

    • @OzinflatablekayaksAu
      @OzinflatablekayaksAu  2 года назад

      Hi, it really depends on the persons legs to torso ratio in this specific kayak. You can look at our 'How to choose a solo kayak' video here, which goes into great detail, especially with height and weight capacities. All of our tandem kayaks can also be converted into solo :) ruclips.net/video/ug4qY4HA9VI/видео.html&t

    How much weight is too light for the drop stitch floor? I weigh 150 and am considering the 1044 DS-XLC. THANK YOU.

    • @OzinflatablekayaksAu
      @OzinflatablekayaksAu  3 года назад

      Hi Katie, I think you will be fine. I weigh about 125 pounds and it is still fine for me, just a bit wind affected. But don't forget, you can always just put less pressure into the DS floor. Although it recommends 4-6 PSI, you can put in 2PSI and see how you go. Cheers, Emily.

    Hi, I noticed that the backbone for AE kayaks are usually several feet shorter than the kayak. Is that normal? I am asking because the 2nd time I installed the backbone for my 1007 convertible, the backbone seems a lot shorter than the 1st time. But its length is 126" , same as what the official website told me.
    Thanks a lot!

    • @OzinflatablekayaksAu
      @OzinflatablekayaksAu  4 года назад

      Yes, that's correct, the Backbone is shorter than the kayaks. This is because it's designed to press up against the inside of the inner tube, not against the hull of the kayak. Were you able to install yours okay? Cheers, Emily.

    Would the drop stitch floor even have a 1% chance of getting a hole? If so is it safe to put the dura floor over the drop stitch?

    • @emilypeyton6647
      @emilypeyton6647 3 года назад +1

      It's not likely to get a hole, no. I wouldn't bother with the Dura-floor if you have the drop-stitch floor. Cheers, Emily.
