    i also do these things:
    - if I want to practice a specific grammar rule or multiple rules I'll ask ChatGPT to create an exercise. For example, if you want to practice when to use the perfect and when to use the imperfect tense, you can tell ChatGPT to create an exercise with a mix of these two tenses
    - sometimes I write a text and ask ChatGPT to correct my grammar and explain why I should've used that specific grammar instead
    But we have to be aware that ChatGPT does sometimes give us bullshit answers! For example, when I ask him for book recommendations I often receive a list of books that don't exist...

    I've been crafting a parallel text book for German learning with GPT. I ask the chat to provide a summary of certain myths in German and then provide a translation. It also has helped me to find the only English language textbook for Yiddish Learning I could find.

    Love this! :D I like to use chatgpt to practice writing. Last time I asked it to talk about Netflix' Lucifer with me in Swedish! It asked me questions about my favourite characters, scenes ect.
    It's really useful. Plus, like you said, you can ask as many questions as you need, without feeling like you're annoying. You can't stop a native speaker at every single word you don't fully understand: that would make the conversation way too heavy. But with chatgpt you can, so it's a great way to get some practice if you aren't ready to chat with native speakers yet ^^
    + I'll defo use your tip about asking words related to a specific topic 🌈✨🌼

      I mean, that's just an objectively true statement though. Not everything has to be taken as a personal insult that warrants a clapback. People, like myself, who get to learn in the age of internet advancements and AI are able to do things at a speed and efficiency that people from 15, 20, 40 etc. years ago just couldn't even imagine. Every single tool I use for language learning today... social media, apps, content streaming, etc. did not exist when my parents' generation were learning languages. Learning languages isn't easy for anyone, but we do have it easy in comparison to those who were doing it before us.

    I would recommend not to depend too much on ChatGPT when you are at beginner level, because ChatGPT lies pretty often, lol. If you are intermediate level or more, you can assess the information, but otherwise you might be left with wrong info without realizing it. Having said that, there are many ways to benefit from ChatGPT. I always use it to make grammar correction or to make my phrases more natural; or to ask how to say certain phrase in other manners, etc. It's pretty good, too, to explain the meanings of regional expressions or slangs that won't come up easily in regular dictionaries, if you provide a good context.

    • @elyssespeaks
      @elyssespeaks  Год назад +3

      it can still be used for beginners, just in different ways! i would gravitate more towards the routine building/resource hunt stuff more than using it for the language, but the vocab tip could also be super useful i think. but it does depend on the language

    Korean. I have just started using chat gpt to help me to explain grammar concepts . Give me practice sentences and also do check my sentences. Since you can make it so specific it works great when I tell it to create sentences using that grammar point. It’s Reallt important for me to do this after I’ve already studied it from my textbooks so I’m aware if chat gpt is giving me a wrong answer.

And I’m only an advanced beginner in Swedish and at nearly zero with Norwegian. And even I could identify the answer was wrong.

    A not super advanced german learner here, but werent the examples it gave you in German for "enttäuscht" wrong ? I dont think it was dative or genitive, was it ? I mean it was in the sentence but not on the word. Overall great video and i loved some of the ways you used ChatGPT but I have bad experience of it saying wrong stuff so we must stay careful

    • @Max-jf5vu
      @Max-jf5vu Год назад

      You're absolutely right, the dative sentence uses enttäuscht in the accusative (but in the context of a dative construction) and, of course, the gentive sentence just nominalises enttäuscht. As you say, CGPT misinterpreted the prompt given to it, so being very specific about what you ask it will help minimise the frequency of errors like these.

      @taivasonsininen9823 Год назад

      Sentences 2-4 don't sound very idiomatic to me.
      2: A more natural way to say it would be "die Enttäuschung in jemandes Augen sehen". Though I wouldnt say it's completely wrong.
      3: You don't give looks to people in German, you throw them at them :) (jemandem einen enttäuschten Blick zuwerfen)
      4: Freude/Enttäuschung über etwas

    • @ernstkrudl4895
      @ernstkrudl4895 Год назад

      To be uneasy is totally understandable. To be ahead of GPT is an indication of your advanced level! German native here. I will present a different view. enttäuschen is a verb, which can be transitiv or intransitiv. enttäuscht is the perfect particible. Entäuschung is the noun disappointment. Die Enttäuschten is a nominalisation of the past p. Die enttäuschen Leute, here the past p. is used as an adjective and thus it has an ending. enttäuscht per se can never have a case, because its a verb form. To make the connection with case is strange. Ich bin enttäuscht. Ich bin enttäuscht von dir. Ich bin enttäuscht über dich. Ich bin enttäuscht wegen dir. Endless story.

    I just don’t think an AI would ever be more valuable than a language partner for me. But I can see how it would be useful for some.
    Personally I use it to find RUclipsrs and streamers in my dialect and language of choice. I think it’s super difficult to do this normally and Google is almost always 0 help. GPT helped hella when looking for Mexican RUclipsrs for me. Been trying to find some Minecraft RUclipsrs to watch for a bit now and she gave me so many options when I asked.

    From another youtube lady I copied the KI English questions and changed the target language from Spanish to Basque. It was a total disaster in GPT. e.g. in resources language apps were recommend, that do not even teach Basque. Bing chat was honest, saying it was not ready to answer the question. For the most challenging test for language apps I use the German (my native language) Basque tandem, and look for audios and pronounciation. For now, KI works best for the more common languages, no surprise.
