Another tip is: at the begging of your prompt ask them to speak and pronounce the words of the language you are trying to learn as a native would. If you don’t say that and they are speaking English to you mixed with, let’s say, Spanish, the AI will almost always pronounce words wrong. Kind of how an English speaker would pronounce a word they didn’t know in another language. I’d also recommend making your own GPT and “program” the AI to be a professor or teacher that is fluent and a professional speaker in whatever language you’re learning. Ask it to use the internet to understand the culture and local way of speaking to further enhance it. This way from the start it has the foundation needed to speak and teach correctly. Cheers!

Man, you saved my life with the "hold your finger on the screen while you're speaking" tip hahaha, I was really uncomfortable with the fact of speaking in a hurry in order to avoid ChatGPT interrupting me
I never thought about using ChatGPT to learn languages, definitely will give it a try! I'm currently learning a few languages (korean, italian and french), I'm not a native english speaker (I'm from Brazil) and I normally don't have anyone to practice idioms with, so chatgpt will suit me perfectly!
How is it going? Being a native German speaker, I had a conversation with ChatGPT in German, English, French and Russian today. It made one mistake in German and one in Russian, but overall I was really impressed at how well it works.
This is a great multi-dimensional tool. I now use ChatGPT in different languages all the time. But it doesn't create short cuts in language learning because there are none. You still need to put in a lot of time over years for each new language. If anybody tells you differently they are just "talking their book", i.e., trying to get you to buy something!
I started using this last week. I'm at B1 in Spanish, and I live in Spain, but my reading, writing, and comprehension is ahead of my speaking. All the information is in my brain, but I often just get a brain freeze in the middle of conversation. This for me is where cgpt comes in, to just practice speaking without the pressure of real world scenarios. Also, when set to Castillian voice and dialect the AI does a pretty decent job. I would definitely recommend it for speaking practice. Plus you obviously get the reading and comprehension practice while you're doing it.
Como te Lamas? How are your lamas? I was excited about using ChatGPT to learn Spanish until I heard that. hahaha. All kidding aside, this is a mind blowing tech. I can't believe how far it's come in such a short time. The voice sounds amazing.
I really do not mind a few errors, still it is fantastic help to improve understanding and pronunciation. I’m learning mandarin, and to find somebody to practice is difficult in a sea of cantonese speakers…
I speak Italian, and I can tell you that the way ChatGPT pronounced "cane" (i.e. "cain") is COMPLETELY WRONG!!! It's supposed to be "Ka (as in CAliber) Ne (as is NEpotism)! Also, ChatGPT pronounced "casa" with a hard "s", like you would say it in Spanish, but in Italian the correct way of saying this word is "caZa". So I wouldn't trust this app as far as pronunciation goes.
Yeah, its Italian pronunciation wasn't good publicity. In my experience, Chat GPT can manage a language at a time; in other words, you can ask it to speak a whole answer in English, but if you want to get Italian pronunciation, you need to ask a new question, like "talk me about the weather in Italian". When the chat tries to switch language in the middle of a response, it kind of gets stuck in the main language of the answer.
I think that was a coding error. GPT was in English mode, so it pronounced the words in English the whole time. If it speaks in Italian (completely), it pronounces the words correctly.
This is incredible. One of the best tools for sure. I was trying to figure out how to use it to learn languages, the thing is you only have to say what you want.
I guess it could be suitable for intermediate learners and higher. Lower level learners might struggle with undestanding the language and the speed. I asked if the chat could slow down a bit and hardly any reaction.
This is amazing and will fast track my Italian skills. What was interesting was in the vocabulary quiz section it asked you to translate "cane" which is dog but chatgpt pronounces it incorrectly. It isn't "cay-n" but "kah-neh". The pronunciation part needs work I think.
Yeah, and the voice has a slight American accent in all three languages I tried it with. I asked it if this was the case, and it responded "Yes, I do perhaps have an American accent when I speak foreign languages", or something along those lines. But still, very impressive stuff.
I think this was due to the fact that it was speaking in English with an "English voice" at the time. It also mispronounced the Spanish word llamas in one of his examples, but it was speaking in English and included the Spanish word. This was also the case when it was quizing on Italian Vocab (if I recall correctly) so that was probably the problem. When I use it I mostly do crosstalk (I speak in English and have it to always respond in Spanish) and I haven't had any problem like that.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but kane isn't an Italian word. The letter K doesn't exist in an Italian dictionary. Cane is the correct spelling. It also got wrong the pronunciation. Italians phonetic is easy, we read as we write.😅

He needs to start with saying something in Italian (like he did for practicing english) or doing what he did with Spanish so he gets the Italian voice. Instead it detected him speaking English so it stuck him in the English language setting screwing up its Italian teaching.
@@mikecurtis1111 there's a lot of tweaking involved. And you need a native speaker to check to see if you've got it right. Otherwise, I see ChatGPT getting you as far as B2 which is college grad level.
Regarding some comments here, that ChatGPT speaks with an American accent, etc. My original language is Polish. I speak with ChatGPT using Polish or English. When ChatGPT explains something in English and adds some Polish words or phrases, the accent is American. But when I talk with ChatGPT only in Polish, its accent is better Polish than most of the Polish people that I know. Start a conversation with something like this: "Can we speak in Polish, German, Italian, etc.?" and speak only in this language. Maybe this will help.
Thanks for the video. It should be added that native speakers very often do not understand each other. And not only the Americans are British. The English from the central part do not understand the English from the northern part. It's the same with the Americans. So, you have to be realistic and not expect that you have to understand everyone at all times.

Learning from a native speaker is critical. When I was testing an application I'm working on that uses Open AI, (maker of ChatGPT), I noticed that it's translator didn't work with my class of English-first-languagen Spanish speakers. For days, I thought that the translator was no good. However, I tested it with a native speaker video, and it breezed along translating to English. I found this video with an American pronunciation and decide to try THIS video and it proved that's literally been the issue all along. Even Open AI responds to accents, and it will not translate a non native speaker efficiently. It will transcribe the language you're speaking no matter how bad the accent. But it will not translate it at all, or it will flounder badly. Sometimes it will even throw in a random translation. Like if a person who is native French speaker speaks Spanish (for an English translation), it will likely simply transcribe to Spanish, with maybe some French translation thrown in. But when you're in learning mode accents matter profoundly, for people AND for AI.
I just ask ChatGPT for some Irish exercises at A1.2. It made a complete beginner mistake. Its reply when I pointed it out: “I appreciate your attention to detail. Apologies for the oversight. You are correct; it should be "go dtí an chóisir" since "cóisir" is a feminine noun. Here's the corrected sentence: "An bhfuil tú ag teacht go dtí an chóisir?" Thank you for catching that mistake. If you have any more questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with, feel free to let me know!” 😂 The student teaching the teacher… Not exactly what I need. I hope that more common languages don’t have such errors. So just like Google Translate: In order to make best use of it, you need to be fluent or at a very high level to be able to properly evaluate its quality.
First I was very excited by these tips but once I heard Ms ChatGPT say Cómo te lamas and cane (as in Patrick Kane), ummm.... if it messes up beginner-level words in very well known European languages, what can I expect when using it with lesser-known languages?
I suppose it depends on how well you prompt it. I wonder if it would work if you asked it to use the appropriate accent when switching languages. If so, that may solve the problem.
All I can say is Thank you my man✔️ I'm so happy to have come across your video. I'm learning Spanish and now I have someone to chat with 24/7 Can't believe it ☮️👍🙏🤗😍

Unfortunately ChatGPT seems to be a native English speaker only. All the other languages I’ve heard it speaking so far have a thick English accent to it, and often words are pronounced wrongly, the “Kane” in Italian is a perfect example.
The word 'pá' from "eh pá!" actually comes form the Portuguese word for boy (rapaz). So it is like saying 'oh boy' to a degree too, even when spoken to a female 🙃It isn't used as a filler but as vocative. Somebody spills a drink "Eh pá!" You loose your wallet; "Eh pá, perdi a carteira!"

Whoah. Thank you very much for making this video. I need to learn Spanish but don't have a practice partner currently and just feel that having a conversation would be the best way to practice.
Interesting thanks for that. I did notice some errors though, in the Italian vocab quiz ChatGPT says cane = dog which is correct but ChatGPT pronounces it like sugarcane ('keɪn) when is should be pronounced kanegh (kane). So be careful of the pronunciations, ChatGPT seems to be reading the word and pronouncing them with an English pronunciation.
Nice!! my phone is too old that they won't let me download their OpenAI chatgpt app though lol But that's really useful for tons of people, nice video man!
As a text prompt this is great, sadly its speech recognition at the moment needs a great deal of improvement. This was a great video though and gave me some new ideas so modify my learning practices.
The point is that GPT will help a lot in practising any language, even with these few errors …personally, I’m learning mandarin, but where I live most of the chinese people speak cantonese, so for me to be able to practice mandarin using chat gpt is fantastic…
Daragh. It is not completely free because I suppose you will need the paid version of ChatGPT. I have installed the normal version and it only comunicates using text
Minuto 13:16 ChatGPT cometió un error de pronunciación. No se dice "¿Cómo te lamas?, se dice "¿cómo te llamas? (el fonema para "ll" es el mismo que para "y")
Thank you for the video! Im trying to practise my Spanish but the chat's accent is English while speaking Spanish. Can I change it somewhere there in the settings? The main language is set to Spanish.
I thought this was a good idea so I tried it and quickly realised that going voice to text to AI to text to voice means that there’s no way that ChatGPT can check your pronunciation and that you’re having to rely on the text to voice service for the pronunciation that you’re receiving not ChatGPT. So I’m putting this on ice until ChatGPT has native voice recognition and generation.
i've noticed that ChatGPT can get things wrong - and what you learned about the korean "goodbye" is an example of its weakness - - there are 2 variations on the "goodbye" it taught you - one is if you are leaving the location - one for if you're staying behind (this is the one ChatGPT taught you) - - plus it should have stressed how important it is to recognize levels of respect - you should learn when to use casual - and more importantly - when not to - these things my laptop chatgpt did emphasize

Nossa, isso é AWESOME. I need to learn English for a promotion in my job and this feature will help me a lot.
thank you so much for this video, am starting my language learning journey and very grateful to have stumbled upon your content
😱Sorry to tell you but the translation into italiano is not correct. I cannot use ChatGPT.... too risky. 😱
Whoah. Thank you very much for making this video. I need to learn Spanish but don't have a practice partner currently and just feel that having a conversation would be the best way to practice.
Amigo podemos hacer un intercambio de idiomas yo te ayudo a practicar tu español y tu me ayudas con el ingles.
These tips are hugely helpful!
Interesting thanks for that. I did notice some errors though, in the Italian vocab quiz ChatGPT says cane = dog which is correct but ChatGPT pronounces it like sugarcane ('keɪn) when is should be pronounced kanegh (kane). So be careful of the pronunciations, ChatGPT seems to be reading the word and pronouncing them with an English pronunciation.
it should be pronounced cané (accent on the e)
Pronunciation was off in *all* languages, except English.
@@MauriceJ-s6zAccent on both á and é: cáné.
This is awesome! Thank you for using the example of English for the mistake correction.
The green owl is going to hunt you, be careful bro. Btw, thank you for your job!
Thanks for sharing your knowlegde.
Nice!! my phone is too old that they won't let me download their OpenAI chatgpt app though lol
But that's really useful for tons of people, nice video man!
tesekkurler dostum. Ingilizce ogreniyorum cok kullanisli
As a text prompt this is great, sadly its speech recognition at the moment needs a great deal of improvement.
This was a great video though and gave me some new ideas so modify my learning practices.
Very useful and helpful since im going to learn Mandarin. Thanks alot 👍👍👍 great vdo
wow! this is actually working! thank you!
Incredibly helpful info! Thank you!!! Like & Sub!
Thank you so much sir , i don't have words to express what the great thing you did thankyou so much
The point is that GPT will help a lot in practising any language, even with these few errors …personally, I’m learning mandarin, but where I live most of the chinese people speak cantonese, so for me to be able to practice mandarin using chat gpt is fantastic…
Daragh. It is not completely free because I suppose you will need the paid version of ChatGPT. I have installed the normal version and it only comunicates using text
Great video. I was looking for something like this.
thank you so much Daragh I am really grateful
That's amazing video, I was searching how can I use chatgpt as practice to English. Thanks
Minuto 13:16 ChatGPT cometió un error de pronunciación. No se dice "¿Cómo te lamas?, se dice "¿cómo te llamas? (el fonema para "ll" es el mismo que para "y")
Exactamente.
Pah, muito bom vídeo 🤣
In Brazil, don't they use "nao-é" rather than "pah"?
Thank you for the video! Im trying to practise my Spanish but the chat's accent is English while speaking Spanish. Can I change it somewhere there in the settings? The main language is set to Spanish.
The accent was American in *every* language.
Dude.... i just try it just because pffff i tried to learn bahasa woww!!!!! definitely a must try
awesome, thank you for this video
I thought this was a good idea so I tried it and quickly realised that going voice to text to AI to text to voice means that there’s no way that ChatGPT can check your pronunciation and that you’re having to rely on the text to voice service for the pronunciation that you’re receiving not ChatGPT. So I’m putting this on ice until ChatGPT has native voice recognition and generation.
Wow, thank you so much. I will improve my English with this great tip
i've noticed that ChatGPT can get things wrong - and what you learned about the korean "goodbye" is an example of its weakness - - there are 2 variations on the "goodbye" it taught you - one is if you are leaving the location - one for if you're staying behind (this is the one ChatGPT taught you) - - plus it should have stressed how important it is to recognize levels of respect - you should learn when to use casual - and more importantly - when not to - these things my laptop chatgpt did emphasize
Greaaaat tips! I really appreciate. Thxx!
I spent about 30 min talking with GPT and barely notice the time pass by hahahahha
Thank you so much. I need to practice my Italian. Che Buono.
Great content❤ Amazing! Thanks so much!
Thank you for your tips
Cool brother.. I've just tried and it's worked 🎉 thanks brother really appreciate your effort
This was really helpful. Thank you.
Google Translate is well developed bilateral live transcription with camera translation ...reminds me of Star Trek (The Next Generation)
I can't thank you enough for letting us know about this app..
