  • Saw how the Puss In Boots 2 was blowing up at this moment and thought I had something to add most people are not talking about. That is the psychology of Jack Horner and why people love villains like him or evil people in general. This is not understand clearly by the people of today and needs to be addressed.

One thing I love about Jack Horner is that he's pretty honest. He didn't lie, scheme or manipulate others for his own sake. I mean Goldilocks was lying and manipulating her bear family to get the last wish. Also he doesn't try to justify his actions, he doesn't try to be sympathetic or whatsoever. He is just horrible, straight up

I caught on pretty quickly that he doesn’t care about anyone until they help him get what he wants. He doesn’t seem to keep anyone close to him, he’s his own best friend. Even if someone was dog-like loyal to him they wouldn’t have gotten to him.

  • @rman88

The only thing i have to say is. He did win in the end, just not the way he wanted to. As my running theory is everyone got their deepest wish. think about it.
Puss, got his life back. Thou not by regaining his 9 lives but by moving past the legend and becoming a better person.
Death, killed the Legend of puss and boots. By being the motivation force that caused puss to become a better person.
Parito just got a family who actual cares and loves him.
Softpaws gained people she could trust and overcame the betral she suffered.
Goldylocks, realized the three bears were always her family.
Three bears, became rich by taking over jacks pie business.
and lastly, jack became a wishing star. Each character got their deepest desire in a way they may have not expected or wanted. In the case of jack, he became a being able to control reality. Yet he has no ability to use this magic for himself. Only for others, which is kinda an ironic ending. But then again, his goal was to become the most powerful magical being on the planet. He never explained what he would actual do with this magic. So granting other people their wishes might be something up that ally.

I saw others take the same comment I wanted to make (that Jack Horner DOES have admirable traits outside of villainy), so I'll highlight another point as my routine.
Another trait of Jack Horner that makes him work so great as a villain is how he breaks the new trope of, "Every villain has to be redeemable," and places a character that is the best 'therapist' against a *literal wall.* It's a breath of fresh air ever since Steven Universe and many other stories, and it adds variety to the cast of villains and our solutions to them.
Overall, I'm glad someone talked about this character in-depth!

Because unlike Batman, Iron man, Black Panther they weren't born in wealthy and rich families (T'Challa is from the royal family). I mean. I guess if it's the ambition you resonate with, that's one thing. More broadly, though, I think Jack Horner is a character that captures audiences because he's so unapologetically himself. and it's not subverted, either, it's not a tragic mask for some deeper, melodramatic bitterness. he's just a guy, who knows who he is and what he wants, and is unfettered. to genuinely know who you are, and genuinely not care what other ppl think of you, are traits that a lot of folks wish they had.
plus, we've come a long way since the morality plays of medieval theatre, enjoyment of a fictional character is not an endorsement of their morals and worldview in the real world. sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

This was a pretty awesome watch and I ngl enjoyed every minute of it; the content is entertaining, thought-provoking and informative, and it also helps that your voice makes for a calm, soothing narrator (no sus)
I personally disliked Jack Horner’s antics and personality characteristics, perhaps too focused on his questionable set of morals (or rather the lack of it). However, taking that department aside, his ambitious nature is pretty admirable in the sense that its a missing piece in many people who could offer entertaining, educational or inspiring gifts to the world but are held back by a lack of discipline, courage, support or proper role model.

The 3 characters want to prove their usefulness to their story and why he is the protagonist but there is a villain that I also like it is Aizen in bleach, his intelligence, his power, his voice, his posture, his talent makes that 'we are absorbed by this character, what type of person I am I think I am someone ambitious, determined but who may lack patience

Jack pulled the deed to the house with his thumb. This wired his brain to think doing acts of selfishness like pulling a plum out of a Christmas pie that is to be shared by all in the most charitable time of the year is a good thing and by being selfish he will gain that same luck he got before by taking all the magic for himself. He has to be as selfish as possible, he OPTIMIZED selfishness to the fullest extent. Also in part of his character he doesn't seem to care about the things he already has his servants, his house etc. he's always moving onto the next shiny thing. This describes how he treated the pie, by putting his thumb into it the pie is ruined in a sense, it's not a Christmas pie no more, it's not a pie that appears appetizing anymore not even for Jack himself. It's like eating the chicken skins off KFC you took away the best part of the KFC chicken now nobody wants to eat it not even the one that ate the skins off. Yes that's from South Park with Cartman being the culprit and it wasn't wrong. Could you really be happy to receive KFC chicken with the skins all removed? You would be enraged. That's just chicken you can get at a grocery.

He does have admirers but they love the little Jack and that's the reason why are with him as shown with the snake sisters one of them wanted him to do the famous thumb thing. This is also indicative of child actors. They're loved for them when they were children in movies and in commercials. But when they become adults they lose that stardom and it affects them greatly because they were known for their child like self. The kid that played Home Alone never had another coming back after he grew into an adult. Whether he didn't want to continue it or deep down inside he knew he wasn't going to continue it even if he wanted to.

For me two of my favourite fictional characters as an adult have been Tywin Lannister from "A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones" and Dorothy from Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. As while the present narrative presents them and their actions as antagonists to the lead characters, their actions have also allowed good to come about for the setting. Not to mention that their backstories allow the audience to understand the circumstance that made them into who they are the beliefs they have.

  • @Sorain1
    @Sorain1 5 месяцев назад

Yup. The deconstruction of heroes being heroic and leaving of powerful traits on villains is going to end up with this result. When ambition, presence, resources, hard work, assertiveness and power are only allowed to the evil, what can one expect? I respect those who are peaceful, not harmless. A harmless man literally has no power to endanger you, so no matter how much power they might have their morality doesn't matter. A peaceful man is one who does indeed have the capacity, the power to do terrible harm, and _chooses_ not to. A great example that comes to mind is Parthunax from Skyrim. That old dragon could do horrible things and few if any could stop him, but he actively chooses to do better, and try to lead his fellow dragons to do the same.
If you give an evil person power, they will use it to evil ends. If you strip a good person of power, they will keep doing good within whatever means are left to them. The ultimate test of one's morals isn't how you handle suffering or deprivation, but what you will do when given power. (Not that there isn't plenty to learn from the former.)
Consistently, for me it is two big traits. Firstly, ambition. To have a goal and pursue it. To plan out the smaller steps and work towards some meaningful end. But the second is a rarely appreciated trait in the modern day. The best word for it is inflexibility. I would say morality, but the truth is I find plenty to admire in those villains who do have a clear and consistent logic behind their behavior. Hypocrisy I abhor, so the villain that fails because they remain consistent to their personal beliefs I admire. Modern writing has a plague of 'heroes' who ignore the morality of their actions when it suits them, and villains who act with logic and reason making superior arguments only to lose to force rather than having their logic overturned.
If a writer can't have their hero refute the villains reasoning, than they are doing it wrong. If the only way to 'win' is force or the threat of force, _you aren't the hero_ here. A villain is defeated, truly defeated, when their logic and reasoning is defeated. Once this is done, nothing can save them. Modern writers ignore that the audience sees their works and sees this missing component of their 'heroes' and thus sees their 'villains' as the moral victor by default.

Yea this video used some bad takes for "weak, fatherless, heroes." Spiderman is anything but weak, dude has been put through the grinder for God knows how long and still puts his life on the line for an entire city. Also I don't think Remnant realizes how much Spiderman holds back from straight up killing the villains in his verse. This is the guy who, when Aunt May was hospitalized, went to Kingpin's cell and literally pimp slapped the skin off him front of an entire prison and was ready to kill him by filling his lungs to the brim with spider silk.
And Hiccup is an even worse example considering all the crazy shit he does in the entire HTTYD Trilogy. The first movie alone, mandem takes down Toothless singlehandedly and the both of go on to take down that gargantuan dragon at the end. And you can't even say he's Fatherless, either, his dad died in the second film. And I have never seen him cry at all, like what?! 😭

I've seen several people describe Big Jack Horner as "entitled", but I don't think that describes him at all. An entitled person thinks they deserve certain things and gets upset if they don't get them. Big Jack doesn't act like he thinks he deserves all the magic in the world, he just acts like he wants it. He's not entitled, he's ambitious.

I think what makes Jack Horner special compared to the rest of other 2-dimensional villains is where he comes from.
He didn't experience anything traumatic or life-changingly bad to become a monster.
No, he came from a stable household with a loving family, yet this is how he turned out.
This teaches us that evil can come from unexpected places, places that you'd even think are safe.
For such a 2-dimensional villain, the message behind his character is surprisingly deep and dark for a kids' movie.

If I may play Devil's Advocate - I think the reason some people admire characters like Spider Man or Deku isn't because they're weak or whiny. These characters are admired in spite of those traits, rather than because of them. No, I think what makes them admirable to some is their compassion and their courage.
They may not SEEM courageous, but as a wise man once said, true courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it. Spider-Man is constantly afraid for his life, and lets us know more than once. Yet in spite of that fear, he always heads into the fight regardless.
As for compassion, it's hardly a weakness. Indeed, in some of the most outstanding people, in both fiction and real life, strength and compassion frequently go hand-in-hand. Marting Luther King Jr. was very compassionate, a man of peace and love. Yet very few would regard him as weak.

    • @Remnant777
      @Remnant777  Год назад

For sure, not saying that being kind or compassionate makes one weak though. I think we should have the capacity for evil and to do heartless things but also have that compassion you speak of.
As for the other characters I could see that somewhat, and you raise an interesting point but the thing that personally bugs me most isnt just that they are weaker or scared, but rather the character arc is kept them that way. Those characters do not really develop or change, and in my opinion it be great to create those weak and relatable characters, but have them undergo a great transformation into something else much stronger. Though I do understand what you mean and agree in part.

The fatherless child is the edgy choice in a fighting game, the villain is just fun to play as and has a cool design unless it doesn't have a cool design and/or isn't fun to play as
Kirby is my favorite character, because he's a ball of hyperconcentrated power and friendliness
evil is a work of fiction written by narrowminded people

Ambition is to be admired... but Jack Horner ambition isn't backed up with hard working personality. He was BORN into a rich family with a successful, striving business and he is using his parent's success and their striving business to achieve his own goal on the side. It wasn't show he worked hard to achieve his position of power, instead what we only know for a fact is that he won't hesitate to cheat and double-cross the people he makes deal with. He isn't a good leader either, he attract people that either are after his money, his parent's fame or the power he accumulated with the magic item he accumulated. They certainly aren't attracted to him because he is trustworthy or worth working for. Most people FEAR him. In opposition, a character like All-Might (MHA) might have being given the key to great powers, he always worked hard to achieve his goal to become a symbol. You can like driven people with powers and they don't have to be necessary evil.

And it's not because he goes to extremes in his behavior. He is rotten on a conceptual level, a depiction of how greed can never be satiated.

@@Remnant777 what people usually mean when they say “fatherless” is that a woman is incapable of raising a child to not be cringe, woosies, or all around not respectable. Because these people attribute those traits to women in general, which is basically sexist. And always attribute a male influence to inspire badassery
To me, the gender of a parent is irrelevant. So the term fatherless shouldn’t mean anything else other than a person literally being fatherless (having no father). There’s no point in bringing it up other than perpetuating a narrow and sexist stigma.
You want to tell me a kid who’s parents are two gay women is never gonna be a proper person?
Single mother, single father, both parents, gay parents, doesn’t matter. What matters is the content of their character. Tbh I actually agreed with most of what you said about the video on the topic of Jack Horner, but couldn’t let the unnecessary use of the term “fatherless” slide. It had me like “damn, he’s just another one of them🤦‍♂️”
You’re definitely gonna disagree and misunderstand me and that’s fine. I care not to change minds, I simply respond.

"What do you mean by healthy development?"
Healthy as in the kids do not have mental disorders, commit criminal behavior, or suicidal tendencies with higher amounts of depression with lower grade performance and life outcomes.
Im sorry if me saying that it takes more than putting a child in daycare regardless of how many parents it has isnt good enough, which most single mothers can only do because they have to make money for the family even if they have support from the government or the biological father. This isnt simply an opinion, it is factual. You should take the time to educate yourself before spreading such misinformation online, or saying that this means anyone hates women or is sexist for stating basic facts.
And even if she stays and doesnt put the child in a daycare, that isnt good enough and you are in part responsible for the children deprived of the love and support they deserve in life for saying it isnt needed. That they don't both parents. Shame on you
