      The fist 7 or 8 steps were helpful. It never occurred to me that I could use several steps in succession as you did here. Learning this was very helpful. I wish you had listed these step in writing so I could copy and follow the succession. I'll go back and skim the video and pick them off. Thanks

    Thanks Michael, I've been hunting down a video to help me pin down the perfect order to apply adjustments for some time and this nails it perfectly! I really like your tutorial style and have subscribed to your channel. I lost my business due to the lockdown and was no longer able to afford Photoshop and Lightroom and your tutorials have helped me settle on GIMP/Darktable as my new workflow. I'm very grateful to you, please keep up the great work!

    I have watched a number of your videos so thank you for doing them! I am trying to figure out how to take an image and simply change the center point. When editing a 360 photo I do not want the canvas to change. Let's say the sun is right in the middle of the image but I want the sun to on the far left edge so that it will be positioned correctly when I replace the sky in a 360 drone pano. I am using the latest GIMP on PC and MAC and I can not get anything to snap to the canvas. I first selected a section of the image essentially creating a "slice line". I then moved what was the slice line to the outside edge of the of the image/canvas. I then moved the other half of the photo to the other side and reversed the layer horizontally so that the end points match perfectly. But I can't get the images to snap to the outside canvas border. It seems there should be a very easy way to change the center point of an image by "sliding" the image within the canvas. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Dude, your tutorials help me so, so much! Wow, thank you for all the effort you are putting into your videos! I really like that you are a very clear speaker and that you take your time to explain the function of your adjustments. So yeah, thank you!
    I was wondering one thing: why didn't you use the highpassfilter for the sharpening? I always thought, that would be the professional option, as over sharpening is not possible with highpass, but again I am a beginner to foto editing. Let me know your thoughts and keep up the wonderful work!

    • @DaviesMediaDesign
      @DaviesMediaDesign  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Dana - thank you very much! Glad you like the videos. They have certainly been getting better thanks to comments like yours. I like teaching sharpening using the Sharpen (Unsharp Mask) feature as it is far easier to use and produces just as good of a result (most of the time) as the High Pass Filter, which requires many additional steps.

    I prefer to do everything shown here in Darktable, except for step 8. Painting, artistic distortions, blending multiple layers, overlaying text and graphics and so on is for GIMP. But processing photos, especially RAW photos, are better handled in DT because it has more sophisticated algorithms that deal with colour shift and film like behaviour much better. Best is, you can integrate Gimp and DT to work hand in hand. DT has mature colour management. I am looking forward to Gimp 3.0 for this aspect

    From a process standpoint, I would have kept the full image resolution, and then scale copies of the final image for the intended use; web, print, poster, etc. Once you scale the image down you can never get that resolution back.
    From a philosophical standpoint, her skin was fine, she is beautiful. I can see taking out a pimple, but pores are not imperfections.
