1:32:06 Wow, I'm amazed my short animation caught the actual writer's attention!! With how Black Mesa portrayed the marines throughout the game, the radio chatter for Echo-3-Juliet painted grimm picture of the operation that had me thinking what had happened on the other line, the animation was what I had imagined: a poor marine stuck bleeding out in the dark while the rest of the platoon is trying to survive this mess. Really blessed to be recognized by Mikee 🙏 Also, LZ Sparrow's actually made in Garry's Mod! Which is actually very impressive and worth watching.
Black Mesa is one of those rare, great examples of what a remake/remaster should be. It takes the original and faithfully recreates it, while refining the rough spots, adding some quality of life, and enriches the story by adding more context and character to the world.
Yep, nothing left out, like RE2 Remake completely omitting the zapping system, for example. Not a good remake. RE 2002, however, is my gold-standard for remakes. It coined the term remake ("REmake") as I remember it, and Black Mesa is up there with RE 2002 for sure.
I was following Black Mesa since about 2008 and frequented the forums up until the first mod release. It's been great hearing some of the behind the scenes details and even familiar names who were attached. I've been itching to do another replay since the last time I did was that first beta release for the Xen levels in 2019.
18:00 I think the other issue with Snarks is that so much of the fun of Half Life was watching AI infighting, and with the snarks, you really can’t afford to linger and watch, because you’ll get shot. It creates a disincentive the first time you use them, because you want to linger and watch them work, and you absolutely cannot afford to do that.
Years ago I uploaded Yahtzee's audio from his Half-Life skit to the workshop so you can enjoy it in Black Mesa. Would have been very appropriate to have it installed in this run.
I'm glad they mentioned it because I am waiting for the Blue Shift mod to be finished. Is a shame the two expansions didn't get "official" dlc for Black Mesa, but it is understandable after doing this they wanted to make something themselves.
33:00 the "cartoon" aspect makes me think of the Blue Shift scene where one of your friends kicks open a door and the grunt gets slammed against the wall. "Well don't STAND behind it then. _Dingbat._ "
is JM8 still working on that FFXIV video? I find that game really fascinating because it seems so wildly popular despite (in my opinion) being terribly paced and having a lot of glaring issues and I would really love to hear JM8's take on that whole situation
I love how Yahtzee is just having fun playing the game and not getting too involved in the conversation. Probably quite a bit compliment. Though it was funny when he tried to point out what a barnacle was to him. Just played through Xen today and honestly I don't think it's too long... Interloper, to me, feels just right. I think it does a great job at enhancing the setting and telling the story implicitly. I wonder if the next innovation for Half Life for HL3 will be reactive AI to not just your behaviour, but your voice. So Gordan Freeman can speak - but he's actually *you.* If they can find a way to make that work it'd be phenomenal. Why didn't the chat asked about Operation Black Mesa? Or was that not Crowbar Collective? I thought they were working on Blue Shift and Opposing Force
I really like black Mesa except. I think they put way too much effort into the later boss fights. Boss fights were always the worst part of half-life. I didn't like being stuck fighting the ball sack for an hour

You definitely deserve it

Love all the commentary/banter/reminiscing!
Great video! Love developer insight into great games.

1:32:08 Glad Mikee liked LZ-Sparrow, makes me feel really proud of my work ;)
@@joacons fr, I felt the same way! So glad your animation was mentioned as well man, you n I both should be proud!! :)))

Which skit is that?
this jewel of a game has to be on ps5 and xbox

Black Mesa is superb
would love to see more developer walkthrough + chats like this!
Didn't know I really wanted to see this
I wonder if anyone asked about "Operation Black Mesa" from Tripwire Studios. Its both of the Expansions to Half Life, Blue shift and Opposing Force.
A great sit in with the great developers of a great remake of a great game.
I love that JM8 said "A skyBOX is like an inverted sphere" and didn't think twice about it 😁

Amazing vid idea
Great to see Yathzee slam it in a First person shooter.
*Thanks for the Content* !

Time to get Tina in to play COD
Interesting watching someone else play this mod and see how they approached scenarios differently.
Will this be available on console?
Thanks for this cool stream!!
Next do a Hunt Down The Freeman stream with it's devs. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The boss fights are so ass in BM. Hated every single one, and Gonarch was so much worse in BM than in HL1.
Black Messah
