Just like the RAV4, Camry and Highlander, the powertrain to get is the hybrid. Toyota has worked so hard to perfect this system over the years, it’s really the better choice for most, if not everyone in these segments.
I got turned on to the Corolla Cross when they first made the announcement that it was coming. Toyota quality, I believed, would more than outweigh that typical "avoid brand new car designs because they haven't worked out all the bugs yet." I started comparing it with the Subaru Crosstrek Sport and thought it was going to be a tough decision. Unfortunately, no matter how many websites showed this vehicle being in stock, I could never get my hands on one until the local auto show, by which point I had bought a RAV4 XLE instead. The Crosstreks had a long waiting list and these Corolla Crosses seemed to be as rare as can be so I had to jump on the first RAV4 I could find. The whole supply chain issue is going to hurt new entries like this no matter how good they are as I'm sure there are a lot of people like me that just had to settle for the next best option available at the time.
The whole supply chain thing has been frustrating for a lot of different reasons! Especially in the automotive world as you well know. You can't just see a car you want and then go buy it.
I was lucky to get one since a dealer in upstate NY ordered 12 of them early on. Took me 45 min to think about it, 10 were sold, so I took the Blue one that was left. The car is great, but I would love to upgrade to a RAV4 when the lease will be up. I want an 8-speed transmission as opposed to CVT, and stronger engine. I would like to note that the rear seats do not recline, I had 2 separate complaints from passengers about it, it would be a nice feature to have. I am curious to find out how the RAV4 drives? you like the ride? Does it feel like it moves easily? People complain about the Corolla Cross Engine that it is too weak, I find it slow to accelerate but while you are rolling at 30 MPH plus it moves nicely but still probably does not match the Rav 4 power to weight ratio.

Crazy car buying times, for sure. As far as the RAV4 goes, it's been great and I really don't have any regrets about not being able to nail down either the Corolla Cross or the Subaru Crosstrek. Is that meager cargo space only measured up to the bottom of the windows or all the way to the ceiling? I can't find a clear answer online, to cargo volume with rear seat lowered. One source said approx.15 cu. ft behind the rear seat. The larger total seems elusive.
Really skeptic about Toyota's advertised 169hp with their 2.0 engine. Acceleration is weak from their sedan to this crossover. Not reflecting what is expected from 169 horses.
They were testing the top trim which weighs in at a hefty 3325 lbs. That gives it a 19.7 lbs/hp ratio. Combine with a sluggish off the line CVT configuration and the acceleration figures are consistent with the power rating. More so, there is only 151 lb-ft of torque @ 4400 rpm so this is quite a bit of workout for the 2.0 engine. An enlarged 2.4 engine would have done wonders here but dramatically reduce gas mileage. A turbo would've raised the price too much.
@@pontiacGXPfan Majority of the buyers for these vehicles do not care about that. They really said a hybrid doesn’t exist?!🤦♂️🤦♂️ they’re really desperate for sales! The Corolla Cross hybrid comes out later this year!
@@jxmar_ I mean technically it doesn't exist for consumers yet. That's a future product
Built right in my hometown. Boring vehicle, but practical.
6 speed SE manual with AWD and 8" ground clearance please!
I think CVT transmissions are Great
It's okay for what it is. However, I prefer the roomier Subaru Forester. Much more comfortable ride.
Much bigger and much more expensive. It's not a competing model.
Been listening since 1987 lol, in Europe we get the Corolla Cross only as a Hybrid.
Not selling ?
Another good, reliable, totally boring car from Toyota.
it is not boring you fool
Exactly
It's a Mazda CX-50.
A roomier carrot roller w/ awd, good idea!
If Toyota considered an EV crossover below the bZ4X, would it be called 'Corolla bZX'?
I don’t understand what Toyota is doing. They basically made another rav4.
Hyundai/Kia are not even a thought when compared to TOYOTA!
God I loathe CVT trasmissions.
Actually; Corolla is the best selling car of all time; not one of the best selling cars of all time
Zazur cross impressing
I leased LE AWD, Sticker price was $32,900 as dealer using current supply issues to raise the price so with current pricing there is no good value.
I moved from a 1.6 Liter Kia Soul, so the car does not seem slow to me. The ride is very good, visibility is great, feels much larger than it actually is. Easy to get in and out.
I have no problem merging into highway traffic, you just have to step on it a bit, the biggest problem is the drivers with BMW X5 or Porche Meccan that think that merging into highway at 4o MPH is safe or maybe 400 BHP is not enough to merge, or better yet gas got to expensive for them so they coast into the highway impeding traffic.
This car is not fast but has a good of pull from 40 to 105 plenty for every day use, if I would want a harsh ride an sporty feel I would get the Kona N.
I am getting 34 to 36 MPG consistently at 55 MPH, 30 MPG around town. Just great all around car.
And no I could not keep in traffic playing with a new BMW M4 last week, I just did not have enough grunt to follow him when he floored it! Lol
In East TN, they are wanting $40k or more for RAV4 XLE AWD's...crooked stealerships.
@@scottvickery2057 Yes there is no end to how greedy they are.
I think that all the car reviews that we are seeing listing the prices are irrelevant right now.
A Corollas Cross is great value at $27k, a little less at $33k, I really wanted an Accord LX, but after sitting with the dealer for 3 hours here in NJ, I gave up, they wanted $4800 Down and $505 a month to lease it, or $39,000 to buy it on a car with a sticker price of $26,900! So they are exploiting the market now, but what goes around comes around. Let's just wait and see what the prices will look like in a year from now. I would like to upgrade to the Rav4 AWD because of it's 8 speed as opposed to CVT but I saw the price on those and they are even crazier!
got to be a fool to drive a kia
@@allentoyokawa9068 Actually the car was very reliable had on it 106,000 Miles, 2014.
Very roomy inside, great packaging, too bad I totaled it.
The car cornered very well; Steering feel was very precise, fun to drive.
I know they have engine trouble and recalls with the 2 Liter engine and same with 2.4 Liter on other models.
Bu that Kia Surprised the hell out of me with its utility.
@@gregashlag8790 We recently picked up a new CRV...had to go 2 hours away to Richmond KY..no markup over MSRP...Stealerships in Knoxville were wanting $2k to $5k over msrp...I wish we could have waited..but who knows how long this craziness will last..and we needed a car
Let me know when they release the Corolla Cross GR. This one is really way too slow for anything.
Hybrid model will be 194 HP or buy a RAV 4/Venza/Lexus NX. So many options, everyone can afford luxury car, just buy used.
CVT'S are a turn-off. Not a real automatic transmission.
This is nothing really new for Toyota! Remember the 1988 Corolla All-trac?! Basically the same following!
Needs to lop off 2 seconds from the 0-60 time to have some real consideration when in the west we have 70mph urban freeways.
Why must every vehicle now have a "Cross" variant?
Because people like tall hatchbacks with plastic around the wheel wells for some reason.
Why would Toyota ever want to stop selling sedans? They sell a Corolla somewhere in the world every 30 seconds or something ridiculous like that.
Toyota will sell anything that makes them money including sedans, the question is whether people will want to buy them.
I would consider the hybrid but this base model is just too slow.
Why does the test driver look like a criminal?
Not a fan of the RBF design look that Toyota has gone with on the grill of this and the Highlander.
LOL now that you put it that way (I had to check urban dictionary for "RBF") I actually like the grill more. 😂🆗🆒✅
@@toronado455 either RBF or a hooked trout look, either way, not a fan!
@@mikezerker6925 RAV4 as well. The revised front treatment on the Corolla Cross Hybrid fixes it.
As if Toyota doesn't have enough crossovers and SUV's in its lineup already! _(6/13/2022)_
Guess because these are what sell in high numbers in the US… for now, until gas prices his $10/gallon, then we’ll all be looking for hatchbacks!
@@mikezerker6925 nah, I ordered a '21 Subi Crosstrek Limited last year. I do about half & half city/highway driving and have been averaging 30.5 - 31.0 mpg over the first 3,000+ miles I've put on it so far ..... i can live with that.
My Toyota 4 Runner Limited and Corvette are both less that 20 mpg.
@@danielfair4675 that’s pretty good. I have a 2017 Lexus IS300 that gets 23mpg average and a 2012 BMW X3 that gets 27mpg… luckily I have a short commute and only have to fill each car up about once a month (however both require premium 😞)
OMG! What are they thinking in Plano?
Yeah I think Toyota is working on phasing out the Corolla sedan
Holy crap that is SLOW!
I thought the Cross is horribly cheap, inside and out. Surprisingly similar in cheapness to the Mazda CX50. Hmm, both built in same US plant.
Королле 200 лет нужно было чтобы выпустить высокий универсал,а то зациклились на седане,на правом руле универсал был почему-то,на левом нет.
corolla cross is a mini rav4
Eventually there are not going to be different car dealers. There will just be 1 and everyone will drive either car, truck, suv etc.....
Toyota is charging nearly 7% APR to customers with excellent credit score... too expensive.
The rear end looks like a Toyota Rav4 and wish they have much more affordable L or LE that start at $18,000 for the L and the LE at $20,000 LE with FWD but if yu want 4wd the L start at $22,000 and up and LE start $24,000 and so on
Will sell like hotcakes
CVT... pass.
10.7 to 60 would be acceptable if this was 1995.
I have an impression this advertising is from 80s
That's literally dangerously slow
No it's not.
@@Tuppoo94 how so? merging on the freeway at that rate is dangerous. Or if u have to pass a semi, etc. That's way to slow for a car built in 2022.
People are so spoiled. Every mainstream car and SUV used to take 10 seconds in the 90s. It isn’t that slow. If you are doing maneuvers that require more speed, you’re probably not a very good driver 🤷♂️
@@777jones you're a 🤡. Read your statement "every mainstream car" my point every mainstream car truck etc now is doing a lot better than that to 60. Your statement is moot 🤡
@@phillyp92 I've driven slower cars all my life, and I'm still here.
RAV2?!
Test drive this, then test drive the car this is trying to copy - the Subaru Crosstrek. You find it easy to determine which car is better for snow and which is a pretender. The power on this dates back to the wonderful 1970s acceleration figures. Added: even worse, a tester now took this car and the Subaru Crosstrek off road and in the snow - the the Toyota failed massively. It is truly a pretender, not a good car for snow or off road. See here:
2022 Toyota Corolla Cross vs Subaru Crosstrek AWD Off-Road and Snow - RUclips
I agree, if you're considering a Cross I would recommend waiting for the Hybrid.
@@gregholman2930 I agree with that. The initial Cross is good if you have no short highway ramps to accelerate on!
My current car has 148hp, never a problem getting in. I will cut in when I need to, be strong man. Also drivers will move over most of the time or I force my way in. Don't be afraid of them, they should be afraid of you.
@@Flying-Fox19 I dare you try that on the Meritt Parkway in CT with a 500 foot ramp. You will get rear ended and totaled trying to do that. There was a slow Subaru trying to do as you say, and he was rear ended and totaled - it was the car in front of me it happened to so I was stuck there for quite some time!
@@Buc_Stops_Here Clearly there is a problem with speed demons not yielding to incoming vehicles. Why would you rear end someone? Now that idiot has to drive a rental from insurance, repair or find another car and his/her premiums goes up. All he/she had to do was slow down and yield. This person could be changed with recklessness/death of others with vehicle for not slowing to let others into hwy. If many drivers know that section of hwy has a short ramp then do the needful. A lot of idiots like I said.
Wow that's slow! Not many cars take over 10 secs to reach 60! I guess the CVT is to blame, a Mazda CX-30 can do it in 8 flat by MW tests, let's see how the new HR-V does.
new HR-V has even less engine power than the Corolla Cross, so that will be interesting to test.
This will be way better than the HR-V since it doesn't get much of an engine for the vastly increased heft it gains. Plus, the Corolla here has Toyota's real 1st gear launch so it feels decent off the line like a regular automatic, vs the Honda which is just pure CVT.
@@oldtwinsna8347 exactly. the new HR-V is bigger and heavier than the vehicle it's replacing. Toyota's CVT is like a 2-speed automatic wherein 2nd gear is a variable ratio.
Boring, bland, underpowered and what’s up with the rear end showing all that muffler/exhaust pipe? Perhaps a replacement for that disappointing CH-R?
no one cares
@@allentoyokawa9068 Thank you for caring and responding
No one cares about your opinion
Still 11 more hp then the hrv
damm this thing is slow as balls lol.. but im not surprised... This is far better than a see HR

Oh, look! It's a...thing....like every other thing. I sure wish we could see more of these things on the market.
30mpg for that little power is not "good" at all!
The new Hybrid also disappoints on mpg.
lol least the name fits it corolla just screams slow and boring. this fits perfect.
Dangerously slow for merging , that's a hard pass.
