Just back from a PXG fitting for the Secret Weapon with Codie at Close house golf course. It's great, I felt way more comfortable behind the club than with my gen5 driver, Cobra LTDX LS driver and even my Taylormade copper mini driver. I usually hit a huge slice with driver. The Taylormade is better but inconsistent. However the Secret Weapon was long and straight time and time again. I'm a mid to high handicapper at best and to add consistency to my driving will knock a ton of shots off my score I'm sure. I had a 25-30% fairway hit rate with driver last year. Constantly playing 3 off the tee and scrambling for scores the rest of the round shooting around 95-110. Per round. My best two rounds were an 85 and an 87 on a par 71 course using just my irons after I took my driver and 3 wood out of the bag completely. With the Secret Weapon I hit around 80% of "fairways/target markers" or 20 from 25 ish balls. Which is excellent for me, dispersion was extremely tight. I'm in touching distance of my 60th birthday and a bit stiff and knackered but was consistently hitting the Secret Weapon 200-210 yds carry on a cold damp winters night into a steep uphill range using range balls. I'm hoping for 225 plus some roll on in better conditions with better balls. I also went to be fitted for gen 7 xp's but ended up performing much better with the P's and 317 T's ending with a combo set of 5,6,7 in the P's with same length shafts and 8,9,Pw in the T's and sugar daddy wedges. I tried driver with my usual 20-30% success rate so didn't bother with it considering my success with the Sectret Weapon. I was also able to pull the plug on the 3 wood as I was also able to hit it of the ground as well. Give the Secret Weapon a try. I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Players just want a club where they can swing their swing without having to think, thus why more are getting these mini-drivers as it's more controllable versus the inflated lengths of modern driver shafts. Shafts were around 43 inches and now stock standard is anywhere from 45.5 to 46.75 inches. Same thing with irons and why 3 & 4 irons are rarely sold with sets. I think instead of a ball roll back they should have done a driver roll back for Professionals, like max length and CC head.
Mini driver is great to replace the 3 wood - have one in 11.5 and it has more pop so nice to hit easy off the tee when you can’t hit the driver and/or want to keep it low and off the deck it’s a rocket when you need the maximum distance on a second shot
I have the Taylormade BRNR copper mini driver at 13.5* love it but i must admit the PXG mini driver has me very tempted will see great video would take dispersion over 10-15 yards anyday cheers from Canada
Got mine fitted, but when it turns up I've also got plenty of different weights through having quite a lot of pxg stuff so if I need to tweak it a bit I can 👍
I ditched my driver and went to TM mini driver in July 24. I think it saved me 4-5 shots per round. Probably 25yds down on driver but it’s so much straighter.
I cut my PXG 0311 XF 10.5 driver down to 44 in. Works pretty darn good can work the ball a tad better and have eliminated my real bad slice. I'd check out the secret weapon for sure.
In have the Black ops, But also have the Mini AI smoke 11.5 turned down. Heavy weight in the front. After I figured out the best swtting for me went and got fitted for the PXG SW, Mini. Not enough for me to shell out 450 smakers again for the PXG. But if the SW was out at the same time as the TM and AI smoke. I probably would get the PXG. How about you do a battle of the mini drivers adjusted to your swing.
I don't actually have a mini driver despite being interested in one all throughout 2024. They were so in demand and sold so fast I couldn't find one in stock anywhere to test one!
at 13 degrees its not really a mini driver, its just a strong 3 wood. I have an old Taylormade R7 13 degree strong 3 wood. I havent been able to golf in 2 years now but 2 years ago I was carrying the ball 260 to 265 and my driver just over that because of way too much backspin (it was a driver bought from ebay) I would love to have a mini driver in a 9 or 10 degree head with adjustability to go up or down.
Get a lesson learn how to hit a driver. My God it’s the driver not the Driver. Why is everyone always looking for the easy way,quick fix pill or some idiot club or an ABOMINATION of an ugly putter. Golf is a sport ie; learned recreation it takes some skill and practice to improve not a magical illusion.
I’ve had lessons. I’ve improved massively with my driver but, the 2-3 bad/average drives per round were costing me shots that I don’t see with my mini driver. The shorter shaft makes it so much easier.
Tell that to T. Fleetwood... Lots of folks will look at this club as a 3-wood replacement, not a driver replacement. Some may just be looking for a better gapping at the top end of the bag (me). For some who are struggling with driver, this club may just allow them to hit more fairways without sacrificing too much distance. Sure, practice with your driver, but ultimately just do what you can to make the sport as enjoyable as possible. EDIT: Have to agree with you on the ugly putters. Pretty sure I know what brand you're referring to
I am gaming a Ping G Stretch 13 °Turn down to 12° with a high launch shaft @ 42 1\2, It comes in handy when the driver is Misbehaving !! 🏌🏌🏌, Your club reviews are awesome.
6 months ago I bought the Smoke Mini 11.5°, knocked it down to 10.5°, and slapped my Tensei white 65g stiff regular length driver shaft on it… I hit the ball over 310 yds 5/10 hits. I avg 290 with it. And the past 5 rounds, I’ve had 2-3 drives per round that were 340yds and further. Last round I hit a 364yd drive. The people I got teamed up with were blown TF away… 2 of them literally ordered mini drivers while we were playing. MINI DRIVERS ARE JUST BETTER. PERIOD.

Have the gen 1 Taylormade burner mini driver, set at 15.5° (13.5° head lofted up) and love it as a 3 wood replacement

Secret Weapon is totally PXG as all the club groups, are numbered after US military units.
