The 'M' in that flexible focus spot actually means 'medium', as you can set whether you want a large - medium - small flexible focus point, if anyone was unsure :)
And you don’t have to move the focus spot, all the time that’s just a lot of effort, I always have mine set to the middle of the frame and just move my camera to have that spot over the area I want to force on then move my camera back to frame the shot. It’s just quicker, and something you learn from street photography or wedding photography.
@@DevonPotter agree to disagree, although yes it is a pain to adjust it all the time, I’ve seen professionals in my line of photography move it all the time, as with car photography the centre is often where the top of the car or the sky will be for the vehicle, as framing for cars isn’t always centred. That’s why a flexible focus spot is so special. Because you have that flexibility for any type of photography
@@ls.main1 I believe you miss understood what I was trying to say. What you do is, set up the frame with the car where ever you want it to be for the composition you are going for then you move your focus point to the place you want it be. Where as I would and do, leave my focus point in the middle of my screen, put that point on where you want to focus, half click the shutter button to set focus then move the camera to frame you short the way you want then finally fully click the shutter button. If that makes sense. It’s a quicker and easy way to set focus then setting a new focus point of your screen every time
@@DevonPotter that’s if your camera either has lock on autofocus or is not currently set to Auto focus single shot or manual focus, for me since most of my shots rapidly change and move closer or further away, I run AF - Continuous so it adjusts no matter if the target moves closer or further away, as long as focus point is on them, which would then effect your idea as continuous af doesn’t allow for your process unfortunately. It’s relevant nonetheless and a great process for new and current photographers
appreciate your videos man, your shorts have been popping up on my homepage a lot and it’s nice to see a photographer not gatekeeping but instead being transparent and willing to teach in a way that doesn’t seem condescending or purposefully over-complicated
Maybe a simpler trick for people that don't have this feature, is to keep it in de the middle, point where you want to focus, half press shutter to focus, frame your shot, full press shutter.
Thats what ive always done but im also just used to shooting my old t3i and film slrs with split focus. Just picked up a gen1 A7 going to try this out.
I’m have not an ounce of a clue as to what the basics of photography but I watched a bunch of your shorts and I think you’re a great guy and that you’ll make it big someday.
Keep it up man , even though I don't own a camera I still appreciate you taking the time to teach us your awesome techniques each video! Also sick pics
Hate when i see vids of people who dont know how to use their cameras. The A6400 has real time tracking, leave the focus area in the middle, point the focus area at where you want the focus to be & half press the shutter. The camera will lock on to that paticular spot and track it whilst you recompose. Absolutely no need to mess around moving your AF area.
Also, walk back, it will make the car look sharper. If you are close to the car, it will make other parts of the car less in focus as compared to standing abit far away
I just use AF-C with tracking field. I place my subject in the center, focus, recompose my image and take the shot. Tje tracking spot follows for every movement and you dont have to set the focus point for each shot somewhere else
@@lifethroughopticsliterally using the dials like your doing is perfectly fine. Using a touch screen is only slow. Touch screen is great for previewing your images
Touch screen is truly for amateurs. Pros keep their hands on the controls, not the screen. If you know your menus well enough you should be able to fly through those just as fast as actually taking your hand off the grip, touching the screen, then re-gripping the camera.
Could you recommend cameras to get into photography that cost less than $500? Hopefully one day you will make a video related to your training and with tips for beginners
If you don't mind can I ask why did you choose Sony a6400 what's Soo special about this camera, actually I'm planning to buy one so I just want to have your opinion!
I just bought a camera and don’t know much about photography. Do you still use picture profile for photography because some people said they just turn it off
This explenation is not quite complete. Most of the car is also in focus, because you are "far" away. If you´d approach the car and still focus on the lights, the backround becomes blurrier, the nearer you come :)
If you have a Full Frame camera, the 50mm is best. If you have an APS-C camera, the 30mm is best, that is because of the 1.5x crop APS-C sensors have, turning the 30mm into a 50mm equivalent.
Hey i also use sony a6400 but i cant find more focus area options. I only find 2 options: Wide area focus and The m dot focus thats it. Please help how can i get all the options

its so refreshing to see someone making good content on cheap cameras. A lot of the time, you dont need an a7iii or IV to get good photos.

Thanks for sharing, I usually have it set for flexible spot S, will give it a go with flexible spot M
No problem at all! 😊👍 S is very similar, I just like to use M. Both work great though
S is just a narrower version of M

I just ordered my sigma art 30mm f1.4 I can't wait for it
Amazing!! That’s my favourite lens! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do 😊🫶
How you like your sigma art??

3-4 stops lower every lens is much sharper
You could also use touch tracking, a little fiddly but you can even reframe without having to change again
I just bought a a6400 as my first upgrade from a used canon rebel xti, thanks.

I love the A6400 because you can also tap the screen to focus in a pinch.
I have an a6500, and this helps a lot
Your shots are beautiful man. 10/10, I love watching your photography videos
Thanks for the tip!
I love how your content combines entertainment with valuable insights. It's a perfect balance, and I always look forward to your next upload! 🤩
Thanks ! never try this setup before , when i doing street photography, always shot at wrong focus 😢
Thanks for teaching ❤

why don't you tap on the display ? sets the focus where you tap.

I find the touchscreen isn’t precise enough for me 😅 I have fat fingers hahaha 🤣🤣
You can also half press to focus and then compose. Just my prefence and it's faster

Find one of the a6400s on market place
This is for beginners lol
Thank you for these videos.
Different guitars make me want to play different things and inspire such. Things that I normally wouldn’t want to play with other guitars.
You could touch the screen and track that point which will forever be in focus until you cancel the tracking. 🤷🏻
🌟Loving this so much😮😮
The R7 has a similar feature! I love photography!!! Great work on this shot!
Thank you That Really Helped 😅
Hey ur one if the best people I watch and pictures look amazing
You should try out the 56mm f1.4 from sigma too. Bangin lens
But is it good at 1.4? I read that the 30mm 1.4 has purple fringing at 1.4 and is sharper at 2.8.
Bro u r the inspiration😍
Ohhh thank you thank you!
I I'm not a car guy and I don't understand car culture.
but that car is Beautiful
thanks for this hack ❤
there's way too much in focus for that to be shot at 1.4
It's strange cause you can see his camera settings when taking the pic at 1.4, but obviously the end picture used has too much in focus to be 1.4.

Amazing! One question i have sony a6400 and im buying a lens is the sigma 30mm F1.4 Good for videographer?
I use the 30mm on my a6300. Since a6300 doesn't have ibis and neither does the lense, I also use a gimbal and the footage comes out awesome
I use small tracking spot focus 100% of the time I thought most people did when they shoot in manual as well.
Skyline 👌👌
I use touch autofocus on my cannon g3x and i love it
Wow 😮
what camera is this? im trying to get in photography
The R3 let’s you use your eye to select your focus point😮
🔥🔥
I really like using a vintage lens with manual focusing ring, but not all digital cameras have a good manual focus assist.
Love my sigma 30 mm
Cool camera cage, what is it?
Just out of curiosity why don't you just use the focus ring on the lens?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Would you suggest this camera for a beginner ?
