Troels must be the tallest guy among the Blackpool Open Latin finalists...this originally Nordic guy dominates the Blackpool hall with his height....and caliber....would he heed the steps of the past long-runners i.e; Michael & Riccardo...?

Michael is almost as tall as Troels. Bryan is also quite tall. So is Donnie.

This floor is definitely too small to put this many couples on it and expect them to exhibit their best dance ability. When you have to be preoccupied so much with congestion you loose the freedom to move confidently and at full throttle which you have to do in the quarter and semi finals. T & I showed excellent floor craft and balance to stay upright and get out of a couple of very sticky situations. Yes, they are pros but they move like formula 1 race cars around the floor and should have a suitable floor where they can perform at their best, especially those who don't have the reputations like T&I who are an automatic selection and are fighting for those places. Given the floor size they perhaps should have divided the semi final into two heats instead of piling them all on at once. Besides how on earth can these adjudicators possibly make a fair selection in 1minute and 45 seconds? Answer? They often don't..

space awareness is also a skill required by a good dancer. the same like handling difficult or limited space situations like this one. it proves you have a good awareness about what's happening around/near you. and that you also have good balance and control to get over these situations in the most elegant manner possible

@@acronis536 Indeed, I agree that floorcraft is part of the skills a dancer is expected to have. K&I highlighted exactly the point you're making exceptionally well. For me this looked akin to an obstacle race. These are some of the best dancers on the planet and personally I want to see couples displaying the very best of themselves without constantly having to watch out for oncoming traffic which is the case in this video. There was alot (too much) weaving and darting like drivers in rush hour. Exaggeration I know. This is a debatable point and there is a line, but I think there were too many couples on this floor especially in such a critically important competition in a dancers career. A world championship. The second point I made was fairness of adjudication which you haven't touched on. Too often competitions are decided on reputations and ranking and why we see the same 6 couples over and again in these finals and most always in the same placings.

@@joetesta5730 I agree about the adjudication part. but it's usually very hard for someone ranked as 10th to suddenly become worthy of rank 3 or 4. so finals will usually have same 3-4 in first places. then maybe last 2 will risk of being replaced by new talents, if they don't push their dance quality to replace the first 4 couples.

@@joetesta5730 it would be fair for each couple to be adjudicated based on their full 1+ minute of dancing for each dance. but it will also increase the time required for this. alot of time...means that the judges will get tired...and prone to make mistakes. so...as long as we need humans to judge big competitions, there will always be trade offs. Judges usually know some of the couples by working with them in private, or by feedback from other teachers. they can also observe the other couples in other competitions/shows. in the end you need to know who is the best dancer in general, even if it might not be a 100% fair evaluation during the current competition. this is the side effect of being human and having such limitations :)

@Acronis Yes, what you say is all true, and I agree but to lump too many couples on the floor at once especially on a tight floor and expect them to dance at their best is doing is doing competitors a disservice especially those couples who have it to challenge for those lower places in that final and I believe those two bottom places were seriously challenged for and they were given those places more on reputation rather than merit. This is where the greatest unfairness is I think. I agree those top 3 or 4 are almost certainties because because their standard is generally very consistent. But those lower places should always be up for grabs if you're good enough on the day, and as it is, that doesn't appear to be the case atm and wasn't in this competition.
