Actually, Chinese name is 油甘果, which is gooseberry, but it also has a nickname called 滇橄榄 which means Yunnan olive. Some Yunnan people simply called it olive.
We are from the same province but different districts. Most of habits and customs are the similar. Those videos make me remember my childhood memories.

In the US, we call them gooseberries. My grandma and great-grandma both made delicious gooseberry pies with them when I was a child 😀

Stop arguing about name, its just a name : They dont know alma in Yunan bcs for they called it olive, some called it indian gooseberry, in Madagascar, we called it voatsinefy !
But this is for knowledge... Since olives are different... If there is no other fruit than olive, I would have not commented, I agree we should not argue but it's important to educate with right name, if they don't know
Not argue but for sake of knowledge. It was probably a mistake in translating, chinese is one of the most hardest to translate, especially chinese dialect from of yunnan probince of china. Nothing wrong which correction...

Not only by yunnan people, its taste can be understood by all Indian people. Because ,its one of the main ingredient used by Indian Ayurveda. And its called Indian gooseberry.So, there is no point of telling that this taste can only be understood by Yunnan people. 😄

For all the people claiming Gooseberry to be INDIAN it isn't. It's grown almost everywhere and stop trying to take credit for something that clearly can be interpreted in many different ways.
Edit: it's direct translation from Mandarin to English is indeed "Olive" so stop giving her flack she's not your biology teacher.

In Kerala name of this fruit is "Nellikka ".... we are making pickles with this fruit.... it is sour.... here people are saying a proverb regarding this fruit.... aadhyam kaikkum pinne madhurikkum.... that means when we eat this fruit, first we felt some bitter taste... finally that bitterness changed into a kind of sweet
