  • Join us as we take a second walk along the old Great Central Railway from Newton to the outskirts of Rugby.
This section of the GCR last saw a train in 1969 and since then has been transformed into the Great Central Way which is a dedicated footpath all the way into Rugby.
The railway has been gone for over 50 years what can be left of this once great railway?
if you like old railways, buildings, or stories from the past then please subscribe to see regular content on my channel its really appreciated and helps me so much. thanks you.

The quality of this engineering is stunning. How great were those brickies!

Thanks for watching. Not even half the technology and tools of today yet the brickwork is stronger and more accurate than anything you see today! I am doing a short video on brickwork soon and the difference is astonishing 👍

Such a lovely walk ive done the one round our way Whetstone/Blaby/Aylestone etc but never ventured further out yet plan to as my dad loves the train history too he brought me up loving all the vintage engines as we used to live backing on to the Birstall line near the golf club there 😄👏🎉

Thanks for watching. The walks around Leicester are excellent especially the GCR into Leicester. The nice thing with rugby is they are cared for by volunteers and really well kept

Thanks again for another scenic railway history walk, on what looked like a beautiful day for it. I shared your annoyance at the crap that was dumped in the stream at around the 17 minute mark. I'm glad that you didn't take a tumble when investigating that culvert, but I do look forward to seeing Sam's footage! The things that you do for this channel :-))

Thanks for showing us this section again, I remember seeing the original with the Marina estate. Looks like it was a lovely day.
I for one, think you should keep saying 'brickwork', every RUclipsr needs their catchphrases!

Thanks for watching and yes I think my catchphrase could be that or 'its a belter!' 😂 thanks for your support 👍

Thanks for another look at this section from that beautiful dug-out bridge at Newton onwards, culverts and all. So pretty with all the spring flowers and blossom. Don't get me started on fly-tipping!

Thanks for posting. The furthest I usually cycle from Leicester is to Swinford. Will have to go a bit further and check this out.

That is fascinating about a potential branch off to Birmingham following the M6 - where did you hear of this? Nice video again 👍

Thank you for watching. I was on one of the forums and one of the old station masters told me about it. Certainly makes sense with the signal box and the width of trackbed at that point. Always makes me wonder at what could have been.

@@MiddyExplores Yes if they had got the route to Birmingham then that could have added a lot of traffic on the line you would think and could have prevented closure. As you say it makes sense as ive been through that area and seen it on videos on here and wondered "why would you need a signal box there? ". Thanks again
