    cool results I love to see people score this high in England/NW European DNA ,and plus you got some other close regions to that area like Norway and Ireland. You have at least 8% Celtic from a couple of your regions too. I also have some Norway from being so much English/Scottish. Thank you for the video! ❤

    Vikings were all over England and Scotland. And the Vikings came from Scandinavia.

    • @michaelbutterfield1602
      @michaelbutterfield1602 7 месяцев назад

      Scandinavian DNA in England was mainly from old West Denmark, their DNA is the same as English-Frisian, which is mistakenly listed as 'British' by some test results. Norwegian DNA is about 5% in England, 7% in Ireland, and 8% in Scotland (due to 18-30% average in Orkneys and Shetlands). This has led some to conclude the Vikings were not large in number in England, but this is wrong. The Danish Viking DNA might have contributed over 10%, plus the 5% from Norway. The best developed farmland was in England!

    Worth remembering, the average English persons DNA is about 40% English-Frisian (often mistakenly described as British, because it is the most common in Britain). He will also carry insular Isles DNA of about 32% (often linked to the Celtic nations). Then you will find 20% described as Northwest European, which is dominant in North France and West Germany, but distinct from Frisian DNA. He will also carry about 5% Norwegian Viking (It should be noted that the greater Danish Viking DNA is found in the English-Frisian calculation, it is the same). The remaining 3% is from various sources. These are just averages, every Englishman will vary. All the British home nations vary in their averages but are comprised of the same components. For example, the average Scotsman is about 40% English-Frisian (but don't tell him!), 40% Insular Celt, about 8% Norwegian (18-30% Orkneys and Shetlands), 10% NW European, the remainder is various. The Welsh are typically much higher in insular Isles (Celtic and pre-Celtic), with only about 20% English-Frisian, 5% NW European, and 5% others. Even the Irish may average 15% English-Frisian (Norman invasion?), and 7% Norwegian Viking. It is wonderful stuff what they are able to discover!

      I must have read half a dozen research papers, it appears the 'average' Englishman is about 40% English-Frisian in his DNA (mistakenly described as British by some because it is still the main component in Britain. We then have about 32% insular Isles (Celtic and pre-Celtic), 20% North West European (north France and west Germany, except the Frisian high areas). The Norwegian Viking DNA is only about 5% as most of the Vikings settling England came from the old west of Denmark and their DNA is the same as the English-Frisians they mixed with. You do find Norwegian DNA averages as high as 18-30% in the Orkneys and Shetlands, but average 8% in all of Scotland. It is about 7% in Ireland. All told, the average Englishman probably derives about 65% from Germanic speaking peoples, and about 58% in Scotland. It is quite possible that about 15% of the English DNA is Viking derived, And some Danes would have brought NW European DNA too. Interestingly, Modern Frisians are only about 43% Frisian DNA, and 25% North West European, but they also have about 10% Baltic and Norwegian. Regards.

      My mother was 100% English for generations and centuries with ancestors from all three Ridings of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and County Durham. No Scottish, Welsh or Irish ancestors. Her maiden name is Anglo-Saxon, her mother's maiden name is Norman and her mother's mother's maiden surname is Anglo-Saxon.
      The Anglo-Saxons came from Schleswig-Holstein in Saxony, Germany which used to be in Denmark. Northern England was ruled under Danelaw by Danish Vikings and the Normans were 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of Danish Vikings.
      Like most English people, my mother is genetically similar to the Danes. They are not genetically the same as Swedes as Swedish Vikings didn't come to the British Isles.
      Very few people in England have Swedish ancestors.
      My father, on the other hand, has English, Scottish and Swedish ancestors. Some of his English ancestors come from the north of England such as Yorkshire and Northumberland and some come from the south like London. His Scottish ancestors came from the Lowlands of Scotland, so unlike the Highlanders who are Celtic Scots, the Lowlanders descend from Germanic tribes such as Anglo-Saxons and Normans (it's a myth that all Scots are Celts or descend from the Irish) and my father's mother was one quarter Swedish, which is where my father got his very blond hair from.
