Great review - Thx. I took delivery of a 2019 Q3 Prestige orange with orange Alcantara trim on the dashboard and doors. Traded in my wife's 2016 Q3, so I feel qualified to compare and contrast the two versions. The new Q3 keeps all the good things of the old, and then it improves every one of them. The engine no longer sounds like a sewing machine. In normal driving, and in conjunction with the 8-speed transmission (old one was a 6-speed), the new Q3 goes like stink! Transmission ratios are perfect to take max advantage of the engine's slightly anemic power. However, the fact that it is not a rocket ship is a good thing: my last car was a 2015 Audi S3, and it scared the heck out of my wife. Final point, and you should have caught it: there is a small storage box on the driver's left, below the headlight switches. Fold up a microfiber cloth and store it in there. You now have a perfect way to wipe fingerprints off the touchscreen, and it's hidden when in use (but perfectly no-look handy when needed). Thanks again for a great and accurate assessment.
I test dove both of them yesterday and went with Q5; simply because of the ride. I had Tiguan for 4 years, leaving out the electric geeks, the Q3 drive wasn’t that much different from my Tiguan, but man drive with Q5 was whole another level, I just chose Q5.
The positioning of the volume control could be to the right on purpose to make it easier for the passenger to use it since the driver would use the steering wheel volume control. Very informative review, thanks.
I really looove the dashboard of the Q3, and your review (chill and detailed) is awesome, bro! I haven't ridden the Q3 yet, but I've ridden on the Q5, and its comfort level is almost Lexus-like, while the drive is awesome (not X3 levels but good enough)
A common observation and concern amongst car reviewers of the new Q3 is that the location of the volume dial is on the passenger side so not easy for the driver to use. This exists on both left & right hand drive versions. Whilst they recognise the volume can be adjusted on the steering wheel, the reviewers think it's a bit awkward and possibly an afterthought on Audi's part, which I seriously doubt. That said, I also thought the same after watching a few reviews but I believe the design is meant to be for the passenger's use. It means they can control the volume without disturbing the driver e.g. in case they need to turn it down / up suddenly. It also encourages the driver to keep their hands on the steering wheel especially being the most commonly used function. Maybe I'm wrong but just a thought as to it's design.
I agree, the volume control on the passenger side is for the passenger. Why would the driver not want to use the volume control which is right in front of them on the steering wheel? It seems obvious to me anyway... Minutiae exaggerated, I hate that in car reviews. Seriously, does anyone really care? I was going to buy the car but the volume knob was a deal-breaker...
Great review! I just picked up a Q5 because I needed the extra space (2 kids + dog!) but I really liked the Q3. I agree that the interior design of the Q3 is nicer. Overall I’m still happy with the Q5 though. Keep it up, your videos are great 👍🏼
Thanks for the comments! I really appreciate it. Not easy trying to figure out what people want.. still trying to figure out a format. Glad you liked it and enjoy your Q5!
It's funny, we just went through this.. We were between a 2020 Q3 and 2020 Q5 - we went with the Q3... The Q5 did not give us enough of a size upgrade to justify the price difference, and both had the same tech and options. Very happy with our decision.
Best thing ever on Audi ( Porsche) are the highly intuitive , practical non distracting rotary volume/ && controls built into the steering wheel. All other manufactures controls are distracting buttons mixed in with other controls that require time to get used to. ps. Great vid but you forgot about technical differences like suspension, engines. Yes the interior of Q5 is out still the same in Q5 2021. I can't understand why Q5 2021 is still dated compared to Q3 2020.
Hello, Quite the comprehensive review, but often overlooked in a spec-by-spec comparison is the actual experience. I traded in my A3 (a fabulous fun car to drive) for a 2019 Q5, over the Q3, principally due to a few attributes that are specifically my preference, top two of which are engine and transmission. The Q3 in Europe has the 7-speed DSG (as did my 2016 A3, which had the earlier 6-speed version) vs the North American 8-speed standard auto with a torque converter. Hence to me the Q3 is no comparison (on the fun scale) to the Q5's earlier and higher torque curve combined with the 7-speed DSG. I essentially drive exclusively in sport/dynamic mode and I would suggest evaluating either model by test driving in this mode. That way you'll see how the car behaves at its best. Note that both the Q3 (transverse) and Q5 (longitudinal) are FWD proprietary vehicles but in the sport/dynamic mode, you'll never no the difference. The Porsche Macan (the Q5's street smart cousin) is proprietary RWD with a very similar drivetrain to the Q5. And honestly, a few inches of cargo space is a concern?! Buy a bloody pickup truck if you're hauling drywall..... Thank you
It def was but is so far down that the pass would have to lean forward to change which in every other car Audi makes, its within reach. again, minor picking points
Excellent job Mike, thorough, in-depth video. Keep up the good work. I Love Audi products, please do a review on the new 2020 Audi A4 Allroad when it comes out.
I’m currently 16 and will be 17 next year, I want this car when I’m a little older, I wasn’t sure which Audi I want Because I was debating between the A6 & Q3 but I’ve finally made my decision to get the Q3, since I go on family trips often and I don’t want to drive anything too small but not too big plus carrying packages and doing grocery shopping will be easy! I also like how it looks, it looks classy and sporty though I’d always drive in comfort mode lol, I really liked your video and thank you for helping me choose!
Thanks for your reply, i agree with you if you currently drive something faster than the Q3. The Q3 buyer is generally looking for a small SUV with the latest features, and with this one they have nailed it. Im still in shock that Audi after all these years of being anti - touch screen is doing a 180...its like finally Wolfgang, are you done being stubborn and giving the people what they want!
Audi Sport Mike My guess is some manufacturers are getting rid of physical controls because voice control is also much better than it used to be, and also users are more used to interacting with assistants such as Siri or Alexa.
I like the way the infotainment screen is built in to the Q3 dash Instead of having a computer tablet stuck to the dash of the Q5 Ridiculous at this price point
Are there options to make the Q3 more advantageous/off road capable or OEM or 3rd party? Like towing hook, skid plate, and snow/mud mode. What type of gas does it take?
So there are no heated steering wheels on any of the 2019 Q3? After going through to many winters with freezing hands this is a game changer for me, back to looking at the BMW X3.
so for 2019 you can get heated steering wheel if you do NOT get sline. However for 2020 models you can get sline and heated steering wheel. Hope that helps.
Audi Sport Mike I checked with all the dealers and website and it’s a no, is it possible that it’s not in US market? Thanks for help as l am waiting to purchase until im sure of info.

I never use the knob to to turn my volume up, down. I use the buttons in the steering wheel. To me the volume button isnt bad BUT what i dont like is the empty space between the knob and start button. It looks like you didnt get an option thats available
Enjoyed your video very much..you hit the features I like and don't seem to get with other reviews. I drove this car and thought the steering was very light and seemed to wander..but not sure what drive mode i was in...a loaner from dealer. I liked the car very much but wanted more power. I drive an A4. Hard choice between Q3 and Q5. Electronics are great in the Q3.Won't got that in new A4....great review !
@@ACCELER8TV Won't wait till 2021 for A4..the A5 has an updated touch display, will take a look at that when available. Going to buy in the next 6 mo. but don't know which Audi. I did like that Q3 but I am a sedan guy takes a little getting used to SUV which I don't need .
Great review! I do love Q3 as well but am having a hard time overlooking the low fuel economy numbers... I do wonder why Audi doesn't put heated steering wheel as a part of the sport package...
Well now that fuel is as cheap as it will ever be, at least for the foreseeable future... may give some reason to reconsider The heated wheel is a now apparently standard in the 2020 sports pack, but it depends on where you live?
I am buying the 2019 Q3 Prestige, Turbo Blue with Orange Alcantara, to downsize from a 2016 MDX. Perfect interior space, overall length, height, and tech features - for less than a Q5 Premium. I like that it is shorter in length for city parking, and shorter height for ease of getting in and out. I am a male in my late 50s.
Very good video. The material quality is very good for a compact SUV, but you can find low quality spots. The cover of the door pockets has not the best quality, the air outlets feel a bit cheap, you cannot close the middle console apart from the pocket under the armrest. And you guys all over the world: why do you need more than 150 horse power regarding a boring speed limit everywhere you go? As long as I don’t have to pull a trailer or live in the mountains, outside of Germany no one needs 200+ horse power 😂 Well and if you don’t order “keyless”, you of course still have an ignition lock and the key itself is 100% the same as in the 2005-2012 Audi A3 8P
If you are comparing to a Q5, you forgot acceleration. The Q5 is much quicker and much more satisfying to drive hard. Responsiveness of the car when you hit the throttle is just as important as the responsiveness of the digital dash. Audi hit the target in so many ways with the Q3 upgrade. Disappointing that they dropped the ball when it comes to actual vehicle performance. Also, at the 7 minute mark I believe you mean “trickle down” not “hand me down” features from other Audi models - unless Audi is putting used Q8 parts in the new Q3. 🙂
Totally! We’re all waiting for the RSQ3, I think that will come through for us gear heads. I think it all sales related, the older one was slow as molasses but it was fast enough for its buyers. So this being faster is a win. But rsq3 is where it’s at! Thanks for your feedback!
Nice SUV, very classy. I'd compare it to my 2019 MAZDA CX 5 GT Reserve 2.5 L. turbo, AWD for US $36,000. My CX 5 is a lot more torquey (310 ft. lbs.) engine, great exterior and interior styling and VERY high quality and safety ratings. And for the money I got a lot more features than an equally priced Q3. Plus critics rave about the steering and handling of the CX 5 AWD. I would rather have the reliability of my CX 5 than the cachet of an Audi badge. Jus' sayin'...
I'm looking for durability I actually keep and pay off my cars I like the style of the q3 so my two choices are bmwx4 and the q3 point me to the right direction
2019 Q5 is build in a old platform and 2019 Q3 is a new platform. 2020 Q5 is going to be very similar to the E-tron and definitely is going to be much better with the new touchscreen.
Just bought a Q5 yesterday. After you drive that Q3 S class and hear that engine you’ll definitely change your mind and spend the extra money for a quality drive! It sounds like the engine was going to blow 😩 although they both are 4 cylinders the Q5 has a turbo engine!
Lol! Yes, initially.. it sounds like a tractor with no oil! But that’s for the first 20 seconds or so when it’s warming up. There is still some noise under acceleration but so is the other entry level German 4 cyl. Once it’s warm, it goes away. The Q5 is the starting point for a real Audi in my opinion.
Is that sporty R8 looking steering wheel and steel pedals included in the S-line prestige? I'm currently in the process of purchasing, and those are not part of the standard prestige build.
Why do you need a CD player? Gee there are still people who buy CDs, and almost no companies include CD players in their vehicles now. Why not keep a feature that a few people might actually consider to be a deciding factor over competitors?
I can't believe you started this video with trunk space...made me forward to find the important things and couldn't find it....where's your engine review? :( I remember in 2001 going to car dealerships and the moment they saw I was a woman they would start with trunk space or cup holders stereotyping me to a point where I finally walked into Acura and said: you will lose the sale if you start with cup holders. I spent 2 weeks researching cars and focusing on hp and engine size or 0=60...I'm ready to buy and I don't even have to take it for a ride. I still have my acura till this day with only 113K miles on it :-P and am still friends with the dealer who kept his mouth shut and just gave me the keys. Dealers MUST learn to ask: what would you like to see first or have you done research on the car and if so, can we start with the engine. You'd get my attention.
There's nothing too exciting about the Q3 engine. Most people buying a Q3 or Q5 for that matter care more about the functionality and tech than the engine. You don't buy a Q3 for the engine lol. You'd be buying a SQ3 or RSQ3 if performance was what you were looking for. It's a luxury commuter.
The Q3 does not have the option of Ventilated seats!! The Q5 does. Major deal breaker for people living in HOT states... like TEXAS. (but would also like heated steering wheel.. It can get very cold here too) You can get a Hyundai Tucson Ultimate OR Santa Fe Ultimate that are FULLY FULLY loaded for between $29K-$38K with 5 year bumper to bumper warrantee AND 10 yr on Drive train!! (pay even less during a $3000 off sale month deal)
I am sure it does great especially with winter tires. When I had the D4 A8L with winter tires I was doing 80mph on the highway with 8+ inches of snow. The traction didnt even go off at all.
its a shame the air con panel is analogue from the current A3 range... its like theyve gone to the trouble of updating the top of the dash, from an A6... and then left the old school A3 sub dials there... for whatever reason. Its pointless comparing a Q3, on MQB transverse platform, to a Q5, on MLB... Q5 is definitely a notable step up just in drive and stability... MQB is always going to mean fwd based Haldex part time AWD... where as MLB caters for longitudinal engines, and hence proper awd offerings, ie Torsen centre diff.
We’re gearheads and know that, the average consumer who purchases Q3 doesn’t know what that means. So I try and approach it from a standpoint of feel and functionality. I hear ya on the climate controls, but it’s a big step up from the Old gen Q3 Thanks for your feedback!
How is this a comparison video? I think it’s a great review of the Q3 but there’s not enough to demonstrate the dimensions which is what I wanted to know.
Audi Sport Mike I’m probably going to get it.. or a demo Q5 my 2016 goes back at the end of the year. I’m thinking there more cubic trunk space because the back slants down. The Macan is too small.
I am ready to buy an Audi Q5. I have seen them on the road and I like them allot. When was the last remodel by Audi of the Q5? When is the next remodel? What is the cycle of when they change the body style of the Q5, ever 5 years, 7, etc? Thank you!
Audi Sport Mike Do you have the same information about Q 7? I’ve not driven either yet. I just really like the Q5 when I see it on the road. But, maybe will turn out that I need the room the Q7 offers after test drives. Thank you!
Expat Esquire Q7 is pretty much done, so if your looking to save some money and you are okay with the touch pad and rotary knob then you need to buy a 2019. 2020 Q7 will be like the Q8 inside with the glass screens
Audi Sport Mike thank you again! I will go test both soon and see. Yes, looking to save money so I would be ok with 2019 Q5 or 7 depending which suits needs best. Hoping Q5 will suit needs because I find it so good looking from exterior. Would probably drive it 4 or 5 years
Audi Sport Mike thanks Mike. Now I want to make sure and clear of this question which I have never gotten a straight answer. Is there a difference in suspension height between an SLine Q3 and Q5 and a non Sline Q3 and Q5? I hope its the same and Id like to get an SLine and put a lift kit.
‘You can get an extra 4 inches in the back of a Q3 compared to a Q5’, don’t tell that to my girlfriend.
hahaha! Love it.

The volume button is meant for the passenger. The driver can control the volume with the steering wheel.

Q5 is maybe a lil old lookin but it is for sure class higher than Audi Q3
Marko Vukoja of cos as well as the price.
I think the Q5 still looks great! Plenty of beautiful edges and design quirks. Looks great from every angle in my video and photos
I'm assuming there is a volume control on the steering wheel, so perhaps Audi engineers placed the volume control there primarily for the passengers.

Yesssss that is what my Audi dealer said.... he said everything is faced towards the driver except the media controls which the passengers can use.

As long as I don’t have to pull a trailer or live in the mountains, outside of Germany no one needs 200+ horse power 😂
Well and if you don’t order “keyless”, you of course still have an ignition lock and the key itself is 100% the same as in the 2005-2012 Audi A3 8P
I’m actually interested in the towing capacity of these two. What can they tow?
I haven’t seen this flat bottom steering wheel in any q3 I’ve seen. Is this an option?
Hey awesome keep it up like the way you compare and explain!! 😀😀
Thanks for the review
Hey I own a 2018 q3 would you be able to mention some more about gas milage and the auto start stop system comparing to the new and old Audi q3?
Well the first change is 2020s now take regular fuel vs premium.
Auto stop and start is annoying so I just turn it off and avoid stop signs!
Thanks for input! Will have to get my hands on a cx5 to review!
Bad at math but loves his inches. Not so wide but long. And can fully lean back. I couldn't stop laughing. Great review though.
Lololol! Thanks for the ❤️🙏🏽
I'm looking for durability I actually keep and pay off my cars I like the style of the q3 so my two choices are bmwx4 and the q3 point me to the right direction
2005 Honda CRV! on a serious note, buy the one you like..if one was vastly more unreliable it would be called a Range Rover
@@ACCELER8TV I have a 2016 Honda lol so I'm good on the Honda
Go for X3 better than both.
Great review, keep up the good work.
Q3, for sure. The Q5 is dated at this point.
2019 Q5 is build in a old platform and 2019 Q3 is a new platform. 2020 Q5 is going to be very similar to the E-tron and definitely is going to be much better with the new touchscreen.
Photos of the 2020 and 2019 Q5 interiors look identical - can you elaborate?
Next year going to get Audi Q3 sline can’t wait 😊
Nice! Let me know if you have any questions
thanks for very helpful review
No worries, glad it helped!
Is the wireless charging standard on all 2021 q3 models ?
Great comparison. Great video.
Sline!
Great review and comparison to Q5 . Well done !
Thank you much appreciated!
Why do you need a CD player? Gee there are still people who buy CDs, and almost no companies include CD players in their vehicles now. Why not keep a feature that a few people might actually consider to be a deciding factor over competitors?
you can use some of the touchscreen cleaner you get everywhere for your phone. 😁
Great video Mike, keep it up!
P.S .. wooow a deeper coin tray lol
are the flat bottom steering wheel in the Q3 coming to USA? is not available in any trim.
Should you do a review on the Q3 Sportback if possible? It looks badass, tbh.
I wish I could but I don’t have access to the car! I should fly to the place where I can do the review!
@@ACCELER8TV Do not worry, I'm patient, I'll wait.
Great review. I've decided to get the Q3.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Tried it with both fobs.
no success.
Maybe it is a setting that we haven’t figured out yet? Or maybe a call to the dealership is required!

Add me on Instagram @ audi sport mike
We can do a live and figure it out!
Thank you for the time, thoughtful review, very helpful...
I can't believe you started this video with trunk space...made me forward to find the important things and couldn't find it....where's your engine review? :(
I remember in 2001 going to car dealerships and the moment they saw I was a woman they would start with trunk space or cup holders stereotyping me to a point where I finally walked into Acura and said: you will lose the sale if you start with cup holders.
@@ianmcalpine That's true, you're right, can't argue that but I also need to stay within a budget for my speed and performance expectations ;) haha
why did you close the tailgates every time when you knew you were going to open them again..
I didn’t shoot that section in one shot, was 2 different scenes. Thanks for watching!
The Q3 does not have the option of Ventilated seats!! The Q5 does. Major deal breaker for people living in HOT states...
like TEXAS. (but would also like heated steering wheel.. It can get very cold here too)
You can get a Hyundai Tucson Ultimate OR Santa Fe Ultimate that are FULLY FULLY loaded for between $29K-$38K with 5 year bumper to bumper warrantee AND 10 yr on Drive train!! (pay even less during a $3000 off sale month deal)
Those are great deals for sure, and even better on the sale...!
(Doesn’t work for Hyundai*)
LoL
Yes, it does come with a heated wheel as an option.
Great review,, keep it up Man 👍
Thankful
How does this car do in snow and ice? I’m moving to Chicago...
I am sure it does great especially with winter tires. When I had the D4 A8L with winter tires I was doing 80mph on the highway with 8+ inches of snow. The traction didnt even go off at all.
Dude, awesome review!
need a vid about A5 vs Q5 😬
its a shame the air con panel is analogue from the current A3 range... its like theyve gone to the trouble of updating the top of the dash, from an A6... and then left the old school A3 sub dials there... for whatever reason.
I hear ya on the climate controls, but it’s a big step up from the Old gen Q3
Thanks for your feedback!
How is this a comparison video? I think it’s a great review of the Q3 but there’s not enough to demonstrate the dimensions which is what I wanted to know.
Hey Jude,
Which dimensions were you looking for? I can get them to you
Audi Sport Mike I’m probably going to get it.. or a demo Q5 my 2016 goes back at the end of the year. I’m thinking there more cubic trunk space because the back slants down. The Macan is too small.
Great video!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing
Good biceps on this guy. I got an armwrestle waiting for him. But he will never read this
Lol!
All show. No go
@@ACCELER8TV gotcha
I am ready to buy an Audi Q5. I have seen them on the road and I like them allot. When was the last remodel by Audi of the Q5? When is the next remodel? What is the cycle of when they change the body style of the Q5, ever 5 years, 7, etc? Thank you!
It’s every 8 years with a product improvement/refresh every 4 years.
The Q5 will be 2021 model for the US/Canadian market.
Hope that helps!
Audi Sport Mike This is really helpful.
Would probably drive it 4 or 5 years
Love this review.
I am 6.3 feet tall ,do you think I can fit into the q3 2020
Yes,
But nobody will be able to sit behind yoi
Audi Q3 is cheaper than Q5, use regular fuel, small size SUV that’s why many women like them.
Very crisp review !
Thanks Ajay! Much appreciated for the kind words
Love the design of q3. But need space and practicality of q5. With my money I would rather buy tiguan comfortline
New generation Tiguan I assume?
Hey Mikey which one youd choose?
It’s all preference but if I had to pick, I would buy a Q5 as I like power first!
Do you know why the US does not get the flat bottom steering wheel in the S-Line package?
Do you have heated wheel?
@@ACCELER8TV No. Our S-Line does not have flat bottom steering wheel which sucks. Don''t call it an S-Line.
My Sq5 has a flat bottom steering wheel (2019). If you get the cold weather package, steering wheel is heated and round.
That huge touch screen on q3 is a deal breaker.
what would you choose q5 vs glc300 both 2019?
Have you driven them both?
The word you were looking for is opaque. You used it wrong in describing that it lets light in. Opaque means no transparency at all.
Yes!! That’s it!
So torn between Q3 or BMW x3. But I guess I'm getting this one.
if there is specific questions i can answer, let me know!
You got it wrong on the level of comparison. It should be BMW X1 vs Q3 and X3 vs. Q5.
We own a new Q3 and when you leave the car and hit the door handle it doesn’t lock! What am i missing???
Do you have the push button start?
If so, only the front handles work. You have to lightly touch the square on the handle.
Let me know if that works!
Great video Mike.keep it up!
