Can't play or sing your songs without remembering the guy who introduced me to your wonder group, Donald Nweli. I remember it was in the sleepy village of Ebu in the former Bendel State, Nigeria, at St Paul's Grammar School. And the year was 1984 !!! That kind of sound Orwellian, ha-haa! Well, Musical Youth became the anthem and definition of my youth from then on.
Maan!! I remember you guys when I was in the villege of Bujora, Mwanza TZA. I was about seven years old. You guys are my hero. I love you guys to guts. Even today still when I listen to the song, it gives me the chill and takes me back in my country TANZANIAN mountains near lake victoria. Much love for sure and I'm so sad to here about the others.. Big up my brothers!!! Maaaaaaaann!!!!!!!
Way back when, Musical youth's performance on Pebble Mill changed my 4 year old self forever. The track Rain by Breakage is playing in the background of this interview.
the guys are just as grounded as ever, working professionals to the core. released a remake of the harder they come available on itunes. sounding great. doing what they LOVE, sweet happy life.
Wow that’s so sad about what happened to the other members, I had no idea. These guys sound really sweet. I really need to listen to more of their music
Good to see you guys again. You've done the job for me. I started to learn play RootsReggae ever since 14 y.o. and never stopped doing so for real....... I'm 45 y.o. now. Love you guys. You've been a great inspiration to me through all times up till today. .
Amazing how both of these guys aged really well and still look similar to what they did as younger kids in the band. Both also seem so genuine and happy and speak really well. I only just discovered them a month ago and have been binge youtube watching them haha Would be so good if any of the other 2 members would reach out to them for a performance. Seems they all got along so well which is also something nice to see amongst stories of many other bands who sometimes dont finish up on such great terms.
You brought a sense of pride to us the reggae lovers. We passed the kutchie but the dutchie opened doors to many who needed to be inspired because of the blatant robbery that so called established record companies put many artist through.
Growing up in the MTV era, I liked them okay, but thought they were a bit of a novelty act. But listening to them now as an adult---they wrote some GREAT songs.
I thought that they were great and I feel that they got a raw deal. It was sad that Patrick died. They had no guidance while they were young. No protection to advise them about sex and drugs. They had no manager. They were young. This is a sad story. I wish the rest of them good luck.
They hit a point we brothers 35+ are the last reggae generation and it is a dying art form. But its installing it in the youth that can ignight a roaring flame.
Nice to hear what happened to you all - reggae music is still massive around the world in fact, just look up the Don DJ David Rodigan on RUclips and see all the countries he is performing. Just in Italy alone reggae is massive - Wales has a huge underground scene of dub and sound systems...
Its a damn shame what happened to this group of youngsters. They were huge and could have been around for years. Too bad their parents were overwhelmed by their success and did not ensure someone was recruited by the family to oversee the group's financial interests. With no one to oversee their interests, the group was robbed blind by everyone involved in the process.
I loved these guys and am about their age.,Had no idea they had such a crap record deal but good grief why would their story be any better than any other child performers littered across music and film history especially black ones. Am just so happy that these two lived to tell and are still positive. What great guys and what great talent
When parents warned of the devil's music, they were talking about the devil music industry execs, whom a special place in Hell has been reserved for their thievery.
They maybe right about Reggae but there are probably some young reggae bands but just not well known. Jason Maraz covered Marley's Feel Alright and Coll\bie Caillat did a reggae sound song which I can't remember the title.
Musical youth was fantastic. Kelvin was my favourite. Inshallah junior will recover. And I'm praying that you guys become Muslims inshallah. P. I. P. Patrick
They actually stole the song from the Mighty Diamond's a Jamaican band ...the song was called Pass The Kutchie, and that song is about smoking weed. They just changed the song title to Dutchie (which is a cooking pot), and some of the lyrics.
They didn't want to get into it but Junior had an emotional break down (i.e. he went bonkers) He's now in an mental institution. Patrick got into a life of crime and was arrested back in 1993. While in jail he died under some suspect circumstances.
Always in my Hart Musical Youth.❤

Nice one guys. It's a shame what happened to you but at least it's nice to know you're still forging ahead.
Guys you were great. You were hot on the airwaves in Jamaica - you held the number one slot for ages with Pass the Dutchie.
Good luck to the guys. Great that they've survived and are so together.

Completely agree on what they're saying about reggae music, as some new music, you can't call music

Good Luck guys....Go 4 it... i think another musical youth type band today could do really well, must be Jamaican of course...

In Denmark reggae is pretty up n' coming! We've got Wafande f.x

Man, they could have at least done an a capella of pass the dutchie :(
Such a pity Kelvin isn't there? But if you know him you'll know why Arrrh

What u mean Junior had a break down???
....and is that the same Junior that went on to sing "Mama Used to Say?" or a different Junior?
They didn't want to get into it but Junior had an emotional break down (i.e. he went bonkers) He's now in an mental institution. Patrick got into a life of crime and was arrested back in 1993. While in jail he died under some suspect circumstances.
@@nonayobizness No, not that Junior. Junior Waite was Musical Youth's drummer, elder brother of Patrick Waite (R.I.P.), the bass player.
