Sorry you had to go through that experience, Maya, it was pretty unnerving to watch. Hopefully there are efforts in the future to curb that kind of behaviour... it's not like Waymo don't have enough data to do something about it.
Thank you very much. If it had gone on longer, the vehicle would have announced something outside the vehicle and if it still continued, I believe a human would intervene. There was a video of some teens and the Waymo making an announcement, but I have not heard it myself.
Yuck, that does not feel good. I just asked Google Bard what recommendations there are if things escalate and become dangerous. Aside from the rider support stuff and calling 911, it mentioned a panic button that can lock doors and sound an alarm. Is that something these cars have?
The doors are locked while the car is moving and there is an outside announcement the Waymo will make. I have not heard it myself. I was not fully paying attention because I was recording, but it was over pretty fast so there was no need to make a call. If the case of escalation, I think 911 would be the best bet (maybe followed by an urgent in-car call to rider support).
These clips are filmed in such a confusing way. Bad idea to move the phone while the car is moving and film randomly the wheel, the front or the sides. You should stick to the front and ideally place it on a tripod to avoid such a wobble.
I agree it's unnverving when someone approaches the car, because you are not in control and you can't just press the gas to make a runner.
Maybe we need a variation on robotaxis. Robocoptaxis. Instead of an empty driver seat, you'd have a very buff robot chauffeuring you around.
Beautiful sky
Weird. I wonder what their deal is. They seem so casual and automatic about it, like they think this is normal behavior. Sorry you experienced that.
Edit: the same exact thing happened to me last night in Cruise. A staff person had to drive me to my destination.

Yeah, I know how this feels like. The worst time this happened with Cruise is when someone spit on the car
