    Just wanted to throw this out there. I use a 5.11 Rush 72 for my BOB, and my RTAK-II sheath paired with the Rush 72 are a match made in heaven! The bottom of the sheath rests perfectly in the bottom of the shove-it pocket and the molle up by the handle lines right up with and attaches to the webbing up on the upper clam-shell pockets of the Rush 72.

    Good video and review on the 9th but I never understand why people want to do so much chopping and I just use a saw what I'm looking for a long bladed knife shorter than a machete I want it for brush clearing while I'm bushwacking

    Ontario has been making good affordable knives for the public for over 100 years and hundreds of thousands of knives and bayonets for the U.S. Military!

    AWESOME knife for the money, if someone is so OCD they would be bothered by the very minor discrepancy with the grips they probably should stay out of the woods, in the day time constantly stoking the fire and at night constantly making sure the fire is out.

    The blade thickness on the RTac2 is actually less than 3/16”. It is thinner than the Bk9

    OKC's website says these are made out of 1075 now? The Rat 7 as well. How would that change things does anybody think?

    • @andr14317
      @andr14317 Год назад +1

      Don't know if this info matters anymore but I figured it throw in my 2 cents. I don't own the rtak2 nor have I owned the older models. but I do have a rat7 and Rat5 that are in the 1075 and I have no issues what so ever with em bomb proof blades. I plan on getting a rat3 and the rtak2 next I love these blades

    How would I know if I have the one in 1095 steel or 5160 steel because I see the Randall triangle logo on one blade and not the other because I know they had some quality control as far as heat treat with their 1095 steel.

    Why is it this flat grind Ontario batons better then their Sp50? IMO flat grinds are way unpredictable when it comes to batoning. A saber grind version like the SP51 would be wicked.

    • @thomaslinton1001
      @thomaslinton1001 5 лет назад +1

      It's not just flate vs saber. It's geometry. If the knife is thick enough, the pressure is on the wide spots in the blade, be is spine on FG or edge of the bevel on a saber ground blade Of course, this is Ontario, legendary for dodgy heat treat. Pinge!

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  11 лет назад

      Yes, I will be posting the BK5 & Bk9 in March. To give you a little preview, I freaking love my BK9, it chops like my RTAK II, but it weights 17oz!!

    have this knife and the junglas on the way. i already have the tops .170 machete and the power eagle 12. a comparison between the tops blades and the junglas or rtak2 would be a good video. i dont believe the extra length on the tops blades would matter much, from what ive seen.

  • @zeus99es
    @zeus99es 11 лет назад +2

    Alright so if u had to choose a blade to pair with it.. would it be. Tak1 or bk16

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  11 лет назад +1

      Great question, I would say the BK16 because it is the same blade length and same price, but comes with a better sheath, more ergo handle, it is thinner for slicing tasks, and 4oz. lighter.

    How is the sheath holding up ?

  • @stefanodogg280
    @stefanodogg280 7 лет назад +1

    Drive the knife into a solid log which is down, and make your shavings by rubbing a 3 to 4 inch dead section of tree or a limb against the blade. Much easier and you'll get a lot more shavings for the work you put in

  • @Adam_Newman

    How has it held up long term ? Thanks

      strpl2 I had it for about 6 months before I traded it, without any problems.

  • @RogerF
    @RogerF 10 лет назад +1

    It didnt really look like it was chopping all that well. That wood didnt seem very thick and you kept skipping ahead in your video as if it was taking too long to chop through. Would you compare it to the BK9? Better or worse?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  10 лет назад +1

      BK9 is better!

    • @RogerF
      @RogerF 10 лет назад +2

      Thanks! I keep trying to find a knife thats as good or better than the BK9 that is not a kukri - for a backup. I like the RTAKII so I'll probably buy it anyway. The Junglas is too expensive.

    bk9 or this?

    I thought these were 1095. Was there a change?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  11 лет назад

      I believe the original RTAK was 1095, but on ontario's website the steel is listed as 5160.

    • @majorgladius7283
      @majorgladius7283 11 лет назад

      Does the steel change make a major improvement? I have an older RTAK, and like it.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  11 лет назад

      Not by much, they just use 5160 on all their Spec Plus Gen II models, and they just started using the same steel in the RTAK II.

    Just a guess, I think Ontario quality was down because they were too focused on punching out m9's and okc3s.

    it costs 170 here, is it worth it or should i get something else for that price?

    is 5160 steel better that 1095? Whats your opinion?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  8 лет назад +1

      +Carlos Sepulveda Just depends, 1095 is usually not as tough but holds a better edge, and 5160 is tougher but dulls faster.

    Dude, old school. Hey, can I give you some friendly advice? You've majorly upgraded your audio since these oldschool videos, the difference is stark - but, your current mic is doing your resonant nose no favors. I think a different mic might serve you better. With mics, once you get to a certain quality, it is just about fit to voice. Some mics do a better job on different people, it's not about better, but the best fit for the individual. Your current audio is fine, but a reduction of your nasal resonance might make your viewers more comfortable. No bad vibes, dude, said with love. ReSubscribed with my new channel.
