I am in this video. My teammate dropped and I rode alone. I came into forks in the pouring rain and slept the night. In the morning I decided not to ride another 200 miles alone, in the rain, one of the greatest experiences of my life and I can't wait to try it again.
Love the classic Rainier Beer in the can on the ferry. Well earned. You are all inspirational heroes. I’m homesick for the northwest and maybe I’ll find my way back for the Festive 500 next year. Thanks Rapha. 👊🏼
These films are little works of art - I’ve been watching them pre-ride in the morning for inspiration and now I’m watching this post-ride after the second longest ride I’ve ever done (according to Strava). Nowhere near the distances these guys can do but that’s the dream, the goal, just gotta keep turning the pedals and I’ll get there I hope!
The sound of crunching tires on wet gravel is very soothing to me. I hate riding in the rain, but that satisfying sound makes it that little bit bearable.
Kudos to those who took part in this epic event. Must be a relief to finally tell their friends to go check out this film on their 'crazy ride' that they did a year ago :)
What a pleasure to see my fellow RCCSEA members including the Rapha Continental legend, Aaron. Can't wait until the land border opens and I can ride with you guys again. Happy Holidays, see y'all in 2021.
Truely inspiring and also sad as hell! Keep it save! The Ride in the Video is a back in the „old days “ and will hopefully be the future. Ride clean.... festive 500 lonely riders!
I’m not a Rapha gear fan at all - I think it looks great but is way overpriced, even compared to something like Castelli - but damn they make brilliantly inspirational cycling videos.
ive got skiddies just done a fat one then got home from a radical journey. horrid is having a shitty hoop and not having the tools to clean up when you are on the road. madness
Done the #festive500 2020 with my touring bike. With spike tieres from Schwalbe...was a hard one...most time it was snowy and icy. Making a video for youtube while this was interesting but also sometimes hard but i did it. Greets from Black Forest Alex
The video say (at 0:51) that it is a challenge to ride 500km between Christmas Day and New Year's eve, but I though it started Christmas Eve? Do we only have 7 days to attempt? Cause I could really do with that 8th day!
I always thought it was Christmas day to new years day but the strava challenge says Christmas Eve to new years Eve. I suspect it was changed to keep the miles in the same year/week on strava.
@@JoshRoss yeah, I thought that was assumed and they’d do an alternative solo type event. Which it appears they are, Festive 500 Bingo. Check it out and I hope you have fun with it and best of luck riding in the upcoming year!
@@astrayagrarian and over 300k dead in the US this year. Not only that but not counted in the death rate are the people who experience symptoms for months or the lost training from even a mild case that clears quickly. Even getting the common flu is a training hit. I'll take a pass on months of lost training because I wasn't willing to make simple choices that benefit myself and my community.
@@JoshRoss Don't ever forget that when people mention the "330,000+" number of supposed covid deaths they don't ever mention that those 330k have an average of 3.5 comorbidities, vitamin D deficiency, not to mention 75% of whom were stuffed into nursing homes with an average of 18 months left to live (without COVID)
Heavy rain means lots of extra clothes to stay warm. You've got to swap things out all the time. On the other hand, depending on the light and strategy, you only need one good light. Start in the dark in the morning then when daylight hits you can charge the light via battery. Ride for a few hours into the night then sleep somewhere and charge the light again. No need for too many lights but every few hours you need a change of gloves and socks.
Amazing achievement but how does the event get insurance when riding pitch black, no street lighting, open roads and no support vehicles to warn motorists?
@@xgalvan1 I don't believe this is the case. There has been a strong push, over the lsat two Festive500s for people to be able to compete on their indoor trainers. I believe this will remain after COVID, though I hope it will become two separate events an outdoor one true to the spirit and embracing the outdoors and a long indoor training effort.
I've been a road racer for 43 seasons with 18 years at the cat 1-2-pro level. I just don't understand this kind of riding. Interesting to see, but brevet riding makes zero sense to me. kudos to those who do it, but you'll never catch me going much beyond 220km.
Hopefully you prescreened all of the participants social media to make sure no questionable content is out there and if so the appropriate public apologies were issued prior to participating. ;)
New to these Rapha films and as an avid cyclist, they are so inspiring. As a filmmaker, you need to balance the music better when people are talking. Some dialogue is really getting drowned out. Sorry, just trying to help.
Jesus Christ! I've been a bike nerd for more than 10 years and have to tell you it's not fun after 60 miles regardless of your physical level - anything after 60 miles is just boring or shitty - you really have to crave some deep level pain shit to even think about this long of a ride. I mean, basically, it's not a ride anymore - it's just you crying without tears. If you ride a bike to cover up some fucked up mental health serious problems - this is probably the ride you might sign up for. Gooooood luck out there representing rapha which is owned by walmart :)
We have a 24 hour event we do for a cancer charity in Charlotte (24 hours of booty), which is done in late July and has its own form of challenges (by "challenges" I mean "brutality").
Liver metabolises and provides energy and disrupting it is never a good idea on ultra-endurance rides. Alcohol might feel good for the moment, but it's like punching yourself in the chest and suffer for the next couple of hours.

Rapha movies are so inspiring that I sit on the sofa watching them all day long.

Festive 500’s are fun ! Especially solo in freezing conditions 🥶🤗👊🏻
Watching in bed, cosy warm, drinking hot coffee ... *appreciating the moment* :D
Absolutely a huge motivator specially for this year situation 🙌👌
This is so metal, in all possible ways. Nice job all around!
More of this. Great quality.
Awesome! I've ridden that route solo before.. It as really cool to see you guys on my home roads :-)
These videos make me stronger. Epic tour i wish i could be one of you beautiful people. Good luck guys!
Such an epic Festive 500 tale and another brilliant Rapha video !!! Love the Festive 500 and this captures it wonderfully ! Cheers !
Super cool to see that lake crescent route pre-construction! I rode it in 9/2020 when it was about halfway finished

Just wrapped up my #festive500 and had an awesome time documenting it on my channel. Thank you for the kick in the butt and motivation!
What a difference 365 days makes.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
Great accomplishment. I've done most of this route in touring mode - grinding west into a stiff headwind across the top of the peninsula is tiring AF!
Great job by everyone involved.
This is what I like about Rapha. Not about the clothing but the challenge and ride that they have included. No other brand came close.
Your videos are always a pleasure

This got me excited. I’m getting on my bike with a couple of beers, swimming shorts and towel. It’s summer here in australia. Thank you rapha

No way could I ride through the Olympic Peninsula at night. It's too damn beautiful! \m/

Inspiring stuff, would love a UK version of this, North Yorkshire would be ideal...😉
Great video! What glasses are those blue ones of the rider in black Gore-tex jacket? They look slick!
Anybody know what music is playing at 7:28?
Anyone know what the glasses Kenna is wearing are?
@rapha is there a gpx file available for this route?
Inspiring!
Anyone in their right mind would have stocked up on beer and stopped at the lake for a drink, warm and sleep 🤣
Wait it’s almost been 12 months. When will this year’s be? Or has it already passed? I would have loved to try it and cheer on everyone else.
