A lot of old comedians don't stand the test of time but he does. Classic.

Marvellous comedian. I saw him do his vent act back in the 70's and he had the entire place in an uproar. I briefly met Sandy and his delightful wife Kay that night. They were lovely people. Thanks for posting

Fascinating - I've had an LP released in the 1960's by hip black American comedian Flip Wilson, and he does that first joke, except it's a gardener telling the story to his boss!

I have an autograph book signed by Sandy Powell and his mother.
It's part of a collection from Scottish Theatres 1903 to 1920.

Clem Dane I had the privileged of seeing Sandy Powell at the Metropole Theatre in Glasgow in the late 60's . To this day, he is still the funniest act I have ever seen. Everyone of the sparse audience were in tears of laughter.A very very funny man.

Why does this say "Oop North" ? I've lived in the North all my life & have never heard anyone pronounce up as "oop ".

It is so lovely when the straight man (woman here) laughs. Sandy is so much better in the later routine.
