I just wanted to say I love the addition of Sue. She seems to have a breadth of knowledge. I would welcome hearing from her on other things beyond DVC too.
Listen to Paul, if you can get $2300 rental for 120 pts, (NY Club was said to be 160 pts, so you probably can get closer to $3000) and you can get a week at the New York Club For $1200, you are getting ripped off. Rent your points take the money and go to the Hotel/resort you choose and use the rest of the money for your nights on the town or the airfare to get there.
$3000 for 160 points? That's almost $20/point. You aren't getting that thru a resale company. I think he meant around $2,300 or $2,400 for the 160 points, which would be around $15/point. I think Paul misspoke when he said 120 points. Even so, I agree it still probably makes sense to rent the points. But the decision is closer considering the hassle.
I'm not sure where he saw that but I found the cheapest week in the next six months (Jan 2-9) at Manhattan Club directly on their website with a 25% discount for booking seven nights was $2193 with taxes and fees, pretty far from $1200. My parents have owned RCI for years and I always thought it was a bit too low brow for my tastes, but if you know how to do some research and are flexible, there are some real gems in the portfolio.

YES please! More people need to use up their DVC points using RCI. (if everyone uses up their points in RCI, that'll leave more availability at GF, Copper Creek, etc... for the rest of us!)
I understand Paul's point about value per point, but time is also money, so it sometimes nice to have the option of making the easy exchange, instead of having to deal with renting out points and making a separate booking.
I am one that had to trade some points into RCI rather than lose them due to the closure of the DLR for so long. There is little info out there, so this was a nice addition.

I have been able to transfer to RCI and had some wonderful vacations over the years: 1 weekend stay at Manhattan Club here in New York, spent several weekends at FantaSea resorts at Atlantic Palace in Atlantic City plus 1-week Stays in both Aruba and Jamaica both wonderful resorts located on the beach 120 points/1 bedroom accommodation I believe at that time there was the $95 fee There was a small fee for housekeeping but of these neither fell under the all inclusive category which was great as those rates can be extremely expensive.
I have stayed in the RCI resort in Lake Placid, New York. All units are 2 bedroom, large, townhouses with full kitchen, dining, wood burning fireplace, baths ( one has a sauna and whirlpool tub), decks to sit outside to appreciate the views (mountains, lake, or golf course). I have been there several times and enjoyed every season.

We do not own DVC, but inherited a timeshare based in Hawaii. Our family has used RCI for decades. We do enjoy it. We have stayed at SSR in a 1bedroom via RCI. Also Wyndham property at bonnet creek, anaheim, Vegas, etc. We stay the most in Orlando. And the value for us is fantastic. But my annual maintenance fees are low, compared to DVC so I culd see the reverse side not being as great of a value.
Put points in RCI two years ago. Forgot about them. (Newbie). Got a notes from DVC about points expiring, called DVC and asked them to extend RCI points one more year due to pandemic. DVC extended them thru 2022.
We are still trying to learn how to use our DVC membership.
She is right I stayed at the same resort but I have point timeshare not dvc using rci it’s the best you can go anywhere in the world through rci
We have used RCI successfully on a trip to Las Vegas and will in the fall be doing a beach trip. The prices is very easy

We have a non DVC timeshare (which is why it took so long to buy DVC), that doesn't use RCI but I'm sure they work the same. We have never been disappointed in exchanging it. Every place was amazing except for one where I was a little disappointed in the resort but not the room. Also my "home" resort is run down which is another reason why we exchange it. My neighbor's timeshare used RCI and she has always been happy with her exchanges. Give it a try I think you'll be satisfied.
We stayed at the Manhattan Club using DVC points. It very close to Carnegie Hall in the middle of town. It was a great week. It was convenient to everything.

My family were RCI members before we bought DVC. There is a good resort we always stayed at near the new resort called orange lake resort and country club. We have always had great experiences staying their but have also stayed in the Manhattan club in New York , a nice resort in wistler on a ski trip, and a resort in San Diego. We still stay at orange lake when our DVC points may not work out or we don’t want to borrow due to future plans. Unfortunately I don’t think transferred DVC points can be used in the Orlando area with RCI. So if you transfer your points to RCI they can not be used for Saratoga Springs or Orange lake resort. But always had good RCI experiences.
We love RCI use it every other year, I married a non Disney person …but a vacation person
RCI mostly has Saratoga, sometimes Old Key West, every once in a shooting star they have Animal Kingdom. Always 1 bedroom. Usually they are posted around the 45 day mark but sometimes you can catch something earlier. At most times of year we can trade a week in Vegas for a week at Disney with our RCI.
I am a DVC owner and also have another timeshare that I bought for a dollar on eBay several years ago that I have not once stayed at. I just use the week to trade with RCI. I just checked to see what I could get at the Manhattan Club for my RCI trading power (points). When I bank my week I usually get around 90 tp or points. A week in a studio at the Manhattan Club that I just checked is 27 tp. A week in a one bedroom at Disneys Old Key West goes for 45 tp. Using your DVC point chart you can see what you are losing using your DVC point. Looks like you are wasting a lot of points. I think if there is any other way to get these properties, do so!
I'll check RCI again, but my memory was the resorts were not that great. Renting points is probably the best option as Paul mentioned. Good Episode.

I still think the point remains that the value of your points may be greater than the conversion RCI gives you.
As an RCI member, if you own in the Orlando area, you can not use RCI points to stay at a DCV on WDW property.
My question is, what are the taxes on renting out your points? We do use our points for Disney Cruises, we also used RCI in Las Vegas. I’m not very knowledgeable about renting out our points. Please explain the process.

Wow! I listened to all the positives everyone was saying, but that is not what I am seeing. I had to put points into RCI because of reservations that were cancelled when DisneyWorld was closed during the pandemic and DVC did not give an extended time to use the points. (I thought that was very unfair.) The RCI site is not easy to navigate. It’s downright horrible. Susan talked about being flexible but I couldn’t even look at any resorts unless I put in dates. There also didn’t seem to be anything available unless I looked ahead about a year. The pictures of the resorts I looked at looked like they hadn’t been updated in 30 years. And every place required a security deposit by credit card at booking. And usually that fee was a couple hundred dollars. That fee didn’t include the housekeeping or parking fees that are also charged. It’s like I was watching a program about a totally different timeshare company. Now of course DVC announced yesterday that they are ending their relationship with RCI so I guess I need to do something with those points pronto.
Is there one of these videos as a tutorial for DVC with Interval? I am sooo confused. The website is a disaster and doesn't make it very straightforward. TIA!
Do a show on the legality of DVC arbitrarily limiting the amount of points you can borrow.
The RCI concept is cool but we never were able to find hotels in the cities we want with the dates we want, RCI members take up all the best stuff leaving little for DVC. Makes sense, I get it, but not worth the effort. Just rent out your points and book a trip with the cash like you would with any non timeshare trip.
What if you have DVC resale contract, can you use points to book an RCI property?

don't forget about the fees that they charge when you convert to RCI. There are always fees.
RCI transfer fees have always been waived for DVC members, even before COVID.
I was soured on RCI in the past when staying with a friend who was a member and the locations were not up to Disney standards and availability at the nicer locations was very limited. I can imagine schedule flexibility helps.

Manhattan Club is not that expensive to pay straight up. Not worth using points.
