OK John, on the marketing stuff being done indirectly by the RUclips community, how about leading a collaboration (by maybe yourself and four or five other RUclipsrs) on a presentation of Tesla vehicle safety? As far as I can tell the safety aspect of Tesla vehicles is almost completely underrated or entirely missed by the public and the mainstream media. In fact, not only is the safety aspect of a Tesla missed but it is misrepresented by the media. The media perception (or at least what they portray to the public) is that Tesla produces vehicles that are prone to crashes and fires. Maybe cover everything from US and European crash testing, actual crash data per mile compared to other similar vehicles, actual car fire results per mile driven, Autopilot/FSD crash avoidance, etc.. Would be great if after you release that video you also open that up for use by all the other RUclipsrs.
Why pay for a commercial - the news runs these stories increasingly regularly. Expect at least one future story on the lines of “Tesla Model Y saves Lassie!”
I agree with most of what you said except for the "low hanging fruit" comment. I would suggest that the situation has been just the opposite. Creating a entire "sub-industry" of electric vehicles without advertising? Could it be any harder than that? In starting a new business, it's almost unheard of to begin without some form of traditional advertising. Tesla may or may not begin to advertise, but that will always be determined by demand or lack thereof.
That shows the true genius of Elon the supposed "engineer", which he is, but he is also the best advertiser there ever was, except perhaps P. T. Barnum.
As their production ramps up to the point they start having larger inventories, the may start advertising. They also have the room to lower prices more to move the inventory.
As you point out, Tesla's marketing cost is not zero (making all those videos is not free). It would be interesting to see the cost per vehicle, and how much less than the $600 average for the competition...
I don't think it is that much to make a video, notice there are little to no people in the video? It is probably much cheaper than the competition because they are not paying for any airtime.
I was not over impressed with my friend's model X until he took me for a short drive... 1/2 hour later I was totally convinced, and that was a 2018 model. Now been in his new Model 3 and it is even better. So yes, bums/butts on seat will sell Teslas! regards from UK
They spend money on marketing, obviously. Advertising is just one aspect of marketing. Marketing includes the website, promos given for word of mouth, AI, battery days. Elon posting on Twitter. Etc etc etc. None are advertising, but they are marketing.
Dr John it might be hard to ignore the 44 billion Elon having personally spent on Twitter ( and we as stock holders were massively effected by the ripples of this decision ) … was this not “advertising” essentially 😅gone berserk too !?😮 So while I applaud Elon’s integrity and honorable intentions… and now will gladly pay my 8 a month to post on Twitter … I believe It’s very targeted advertising for tesla and all the things he does too.
Twitter is a grandeur part of Elon's plan. Twitter grew from the ashes will undoubtedly quiet many Elon critics and many more investors realize Elon's company is a good investment.
I find that people have no clue as to why Tesla's are the best value and don't have a good basis for what considerations make up the value. I think chanels like yours could help by goving people a basic decision model to follow; common for all Tesla's and then what is unique for each of 3, Y, S, X. What is important to consider, and why for each. My 2 cents. The ability to compare and the ability to repeat consistently are tools to communicate and help consumers to understand the value.
The large amount of funds spent by the legacy auto makers (and respective non-Tesla insurance) has to be considerable. Hence, it behooves mainstream media to not "bite the hand that feeds them", protect that income, be down trodden on Tesla, therefore, here comes the FUD. Would traditional advertising by Tesla, make a big dent in those nay sayors, negative media, and FUD?
No Tesla does not need ads but marketing. Read Kotler and then think. Marketing is more than ads. Branding for instance - ICE branding is also bad even worse than Tesla. Tesla must think what is customer thinking when it sees Tesla and get most out of that. Maybe Cybertuck must be another brand maybe model2 also. To me there were always a question whay Audi A1 A2 is existing.
A great ad strategy using Twitter which would cost zero and work pretty well would be a series of sincere apologies from Musk for trashing the TSLA stock price. A genius engineer no one can argue but his business acumen and brand building is sometimes highly questionable.
Isn’t interesting that the graph of searches shows the highest nos in the coldest countries. That should put to bed the FUD pushers about EVs being no good for cold places, because if there was any truth to that, the word would spread and the inquiries would be lower. But of course the FUD machine won’t care about facts. Good vid, pal
I sure wish some of Musk's millions of Twitter followers would have signed the petition to change the IRA EV Credit. Idk what to make of the relative low participation.
Is true, provocative works. I remember that I became aware of Elon in 2016 when he proposed to nuke Mars and some article made a headline out of it. I was quite upset about myself that I had missed SpaceX going orbital and landing the first stage in Dec 2015.
I submit that nobody who sells popular products that cost upwards of $30k needs to advertise now, because people will be hunting down the information for themselves.
Nope, I watched family go to a dealership to buy a car, because that is the way it is done. Bought a used 3 year old car for far too much at a horrible interest rate with no money down.
@@jamesengland7461 they probably would have bought a Tesla if the dealership had any. Not very many Tesla on the used market yet. In 2030 Tesla will probably own the consumer car market.
I'm glad lots of Teslas are being sold -- I love mine BIG TIME!! However, Tesla Service can be a can of worms!! Many, including myself and Jesse from 'Tesla Time', have had very poor experiences with the Tesla service system. I suggest Posts like this by 'Dr Know-All', should try to EMPHASIZE that with all these new Teslas being sold Tesla/Elon MUST UPGRADE THE SERVICE SYSTEM ASAP!!!!
I recall the legacy auto companies advertised EV during the Super Bowl, but the cars weren’t available. Tesla purchases jumped so the advertising was effective.
No other car looks like a Tesla...and there will be more and more Teslas on the road. I personally doubt that Tesla will need to advertise beyond the free word-of-mouth (and free internet clickbait) at least for a decade or more to come.
Why would Elon Musk pay one nickel for advertising with all you guys posting these Tesla videos? Pretty soon there is going to more videos out there than Tesla's.
I don't really buy the radically honest story anymore I think. He told us so many times he was done selling stock. What did he do? He hyped up the stock on a call, then sold massively. He also said FSD would be done end of last year... Where is it ? Years from finished maybe. Tesla's a great cars and he is a genius. But he is no saint, far from it. I think he is deliberately liying if it does good to him or the company. Like any other CEO.
IMO. All the Tesla RUclipsrs need to pivot (as a public service) and focus on one thing, and one thing only. CHARGING NETWORKS in the United States. There really is no reason to talk about Tesla (or Rivian, etc) anymore. We have landed on the moon. But the biggest issue facing the transition to EVs is CHARGING NETWORKS. The Joe Biden IRA plan is to dole out a lot of money to each state (that puts their hand up) to build out CHARGING NETWORKS. If you can't charge it home, you probably won't buy an EV. If you buy a non-Tesla eV, the charging network sucks. (Who are building these crappy EV Pods?). But, if the IRA charging station money is spent properly, it can a huge positive effect on the transition. Do we want the US to transition to EVs? Help push the charging station build out.
I like how Tesla publishes the heat pump video just days after Audi and VW announce they're yanking the heat pumps from their EVs,
Good points. I would add the Hertz rentals and their leases to Uber drivers, plus Las Vegas rides.
"information relations" Brilliant. You are part of that.

👏 🎉
There are people who don’t follow Tesla like we investors & owners. Elon needs to do “safest cars ads” at least…
If I see Tesla shills pushing safety my first thought is that adverse safety information is being suppressed.
My first grader knows all the models of teslas.... that kid can talk! If that's not advertising I don't know what is...
At some point Elon needs to do a 5 sec commercial “ # 1,2&3rd safest cars in the world” ..& nobody knows this
Why pay for a commercial - the news runs these stories increasingly regularly. Expect at least one future story on the lines of “Tesla Model Y saves Lassie!”
Typical Facebook group question, "Should I buy a Ford Explorer or a Toyota Sienna?", common answer "Buy a Model Y or Model X" 😃
What is twitter? He spent $billions$ on advertising. He's so smart, he made it an investment.
If that were all there was to it, he would be a genius, but it is not, so he is a super genus. Which requires vision, persistence, courage, risk.
Information Relations... I like that description.
I thought the Heat Pump video was a smart move, maybe not intentional but just recently Audi and VW have removed it and Hyundai have it as an extra!
Teslas are showing up everywhere. That is huge advertising.
Love the new intro graphic.
Uh, what happened to "the more Teslas Tesla sells, the more Teslas Tesla sells?"
Tesla, the only car so good it doesn’t need advertising!
You mean it doesn't need paid advertising.
I love your channel because your takes are consistently good and interesting
Twitter is highly leveraged via being quoted *everywhere else.* YT influencers getting "free" Tesla products *is paid advertising* if not large.

The deal of the century does not need much advertising that is paid for, just free advertising.
14:36 Where can I get the hood-top horns for my Model Y? It's not in the Tesla store.
It reduces gas mileage.😁

Elon, critizes other car companies for holding back their advertising from Twitter. Tesla doesn't advertise at all on Twitter.
