  • The Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut opened in January 1975. The roof collapsed in 1978 and was rebuilt in 1980. The Civic Center became the XL Center in 2007. My video that goes into more detail about the Allyn House (this was one of my earliest videos, so the the audio volume is a bit low): • The Allyn House Hotel,...

I suspect the Elevators at the Civic Center were originally Montgomery or Montgomery Kone, because the ones there now are KONE.

There was a barber in the Allyn hotel building in the 1950’s. Mr. Pitchillo was the barber and he lived on Fern street in west Hartford west of North Main Street. I think haircuts were a dollar or maybe $1.15. Her was very nice

Great presentation! I’m especially looking forward to the episode about the missing segment of Allyn St inasmuch as in 1967 I took driver’s ed classroom instruction at a driving school located on the north side of the missing block.
Also, does anyone recall the specific location on Asylum St of the original Frank’s Restaurant that burned down in about 1961? Their later locations were on the south side of Asylum but my childhood memory of the fire places it on the north side of the street.

Frank's was on the north side at the corner of Ann Street. I want to cover that in a video on the Asylum Street side of the Civic Center.
