Rick your Bible studies have made such an impact on my family - I have 2 homeschooled teenagers and we listen every weekday-we just finished your study of John and my husband and I have made life changes to stop being cultural Christians and become disciples of Jesus-thank you!

I have not given God's word the priority in my life that it deserves in a long time. But I have decided to commit to participating in this Bible study every week. Maybe it will help me get back to where I need to be.

If you have time, please go a little more in depth about the definition of repentance. I get it confused with works and trying to be sinless, which I have tried and prayed for but cannot do. Thanks for your help.

Brother when you speak church history it would help that you have studied church history. I know this is a tall order.
Second Point what language was and is he book of Revelation written in? GREEK.
No comentaries of scholars are going to tell you this. In the bible genesis to revelation there is a gigantic law governing the whole of Scripture.
This was spoken first by Moses. You already know the verse by some of the ways its is used. "For out of the mouth of two and three witnesses (Here of Scripture) shall every word (This includes teaching doctrine and revelation) shall be established.
This is the divine safety net against all error. That God is saying beginning with moses that all teaching given had to be VERIFIED in Older Scripture.
In this passage Moses sets up the Sanhedrin with priests their name in greek are priests of the ear. That hear and listen carefully to JUDGE primarily through the whole old testament whether and teaching dream vision can be found materially taught two or more times. So that one knows if something for the most part is safe.
This is done all through scripture it was done in Hebrew and was miraculously carried into the Greek Septuagint. so that in the old Testament David Solomon and the prophets was using single hebrew words and short phrases like 3 words to identify the passage they were citing and quoting in all teaching. The bible had no chapters and verses and this was how it was done from moses and through to the death of John,
I was very happy how you spoke of John as he is saying far more in greek that is read in a modern bible, (Where most words are 2-6 word phrases but the translations today are all one and two word translations) Many greek words are composed of smaller words you have seen a number of them whether you recognize this or not. The Word Revelation is a phrase, the words for pray describe these prayers as intercession repentance giving oaths yet all these words are translated at "Prayer or Praying or Prayeth and sometime intercession"
So this system in the the Old Testament was carried on by Christ Paul Peter James John and Jude. that in greek these use mostly single unique or somewhat unique words to indentify books and passages in the Greek septuagint. What is quoted is the GREATER CONTEXT as only bits and or a phrase is quoted to focus on how what is said is to be interpreted aka translated.
So Jesus and the Apostles CONTINUALLY cite and quote scriptures from the greek septuagint. And the book that quotes the most is Revelation like no other
So I will address the church of Ephesus that lost its FIRST LOVE those are the two words that Identify a very specific passage.
I was in bible school 1976-1981 and Not one single teacher not one guest speaker had the slightest idea over the sin of Ephesus why Jesus was so angry to threaten to blot the church out by removing is Oil Lamp (Greek) from before God.
When one does NOT KNOW what is quoted to have scripture interpret scripture as is spoken by isaiah Line upon line here a little there a little so is the word of God learned. (Poor quote) So FIRST and LOVE identifies a verse of scripture. If you pull out a lexicon you may find it now that I told you. Jesus is quoting himself in the Gospel of matthew This is the FIRST and great commandments thou shalt LOVE the Lord with all your heart all your mind all your soul and all your strength. This is NOT the full verse it is a partial quote. What Jesus is angry about is in Deuteronomy (This is how God hides truth from the wise and arrogant in ministry) After Here o israel the Lord your God is One Lord. And Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your mind and with all your soul [God Continues HOW God expected that Love to be expressed by Every single Israelite]
One can quote the first but the OBSERVATION of this is wholly different and is spokes of a few figurative things NOT RECORDED being ever done in scripture
that modern hassidic Jews make a great show of biding a small black box with scripture this commandment between their eys and on their right arm they strap another box. (These were around during Christ in english they are called Phylacteries. That is not the word meaning) God never commanded this
God commanded that his commandments and the great one should be fig bound between ones eyes SO that every jew no matter what they looked at were to see that THROUGH the whole of Scripture. on the right arm That every jews was to first consult scriptrue before laying their hand to do something.
And it was to be markined up the gate of your property that all that came on your property were spoken to about God and his commandments.
And its was to be marked on the Door of the house that ALL that came in here were to recieve teaching and instuction DAILY except the sabbath
In this is that all Jews began under moses to this day in the conservative sects to begin teaching their sons to read and memorize scripture at age SIX.
This played a major role as by the time this child was a young teen they have memorized the first book of the five books of Moses by the time they are 18 they have down two or almost two books and you already know a man in israel was not an adult until age 30.
People make gross errors to think Jesus and the Apostles were anything like christians today. I will stop here as This would go on for pages.
So what we are writing is without greek you can not really look up words and more importantly not having the bible Jesus and the apostles read and quote from you can not find almost anything that is quoted in greek. It took me DECADES to reach a level I grasped these things that I Just word of the commandment of scripture and that Jesus and the apostles did not speak Aramaic alone. Jesus walks in the synagogue in nazareth
asks for the scroll of Isaiah which was the greek septuagint in every sinagogue in that day and jesus read GREEK meaning he spoke Greek as did all the aposltes to preach the gospel to the gentile in the international language of Greek. And these also memorized 3 or more books of scirpture as no scrolls were for sale. Jesus has a title in the New Testament not translated Paul mentions once his title in the pharisees these were very high very educated men as well as the John the Baptist and John the Apostle. and his brother Andrew In john 1 Peter is quoting scripture in John 5 in greek the woman at the well quotes a verse from dueteronomy. and in the exchange jesus says their worship on the mount and the temple will cease for good. there will be no third temple. it is not prophesied of once in scripture. So you may say but what about the temple in ezekiel. Look at the gate names these names are the tribes mentioned in revelation these are not the 12 tribes of israel they are something NEW these are part of the new jerusalem. the names match Ezekiel
    Gotta go
