megalovania was actually based on that one song "rock my emotions" or something, from what ive heard.
I heard the name was based on the boss theme from live a live, the song was called megalomania instead of megalovania
His name was legally changed to a annoying dog

morale of the story: Toby Fox loves this specific song so much he tries to incorporate it in everything.
Everything except Little Town Hero.

I believe he even called it "the musical embodiment of final bossitude".

Ngl it is undeniably a good song. Unforgettable and doesn't really get boring, makes you feel more energetic. Besides as far as I know you can't exactly ruin it either... Somehow.
This song was originally in a rom hack of a Nintendo game

Megalovania plays whenever the protagonist uses brute force at the moment when they could have done ANYTHING else.
well, welllllllllll homestuck doesn't really have a protagonist but i guess if you see Noir one in that moment? or, *shudders* Vriska?
In homestuck if you take by aradia side (the red one) it doesnt makes sense,but if you take by vriska side(the yellow one with the sun) it makes some sense because she killed tavros and regrets about it later on

Unpopular opinion but the Homestuck version is probably my favorite. There's something about the different guitar rifts that just works with the song as a whole. Ominous, yet still a banger.

to be fair. sans' theme and all related songs are actually based on megalovania i'm p sure, it's hard to tell but it's just a more chill version of the iconic melody from the start of the song.
he did the same thing in homestuck, one of the characters' theme is pretty much a funky and slightly different version of the second half of megalovania
toby fox is a genius, is what i mean. he doesn't just put a song in the middle of the work with no context, even when it's such a fantastic song as megalovania- there's always some form of leitmotif buildup to it, no matter how subtle

The meme of megalovania being in everything originates from the fact that Toby Fox love this song that he created and need to put it in everything that he participated thus making his inside joke of "megalovania is my signature" into a fucking meme of how much megalovania can we put in things until people start killing other people for that reason

Bonetrousle and heartache are in the smash version
It feels like Toby put in some homestuck too near the end
The beginning is short, either because Sakurai told him to or as a reference to the short beginning of the earthbound hack
It really does seem like the definitive version of megalovania
just a little comment on the homestuck:
the end of that homestuck part is a guitar solo by tensei if i remember correctly. its a segment of vriska’s theme.
